Don't know how to read tablature? No problem! Check out my quick and easy lesson: ua-cam.com/video/BLst2CxQy2c/v-deo.html
Thank you for putting the tab up and briefly explaining what youre doing. I hate how most of these guys burn up 10 minutes naming every string, fret and finger used for every single second of he song.
Randy’s music is so beautiful
Great tutorial, great tabs, thank you. That EVH Wolfgang sounds great too!
Randy one of the greatest to ever do it, everything he did make such sense, I am finding a lot of his live shows on youtube and he changed every song with little nuances. amazing live player
The juxtaposition of a Randy lesson on an EVH guitar isn't lost on us :-) Like putting a Chevy V-8 in a '32 Ford: offensive to the purists, perhaps, but indisputably fun... thanks for another vid, PDX
LOL thanks Mike! I only have two guitars that are tuned down 1/2 step, and they are both EVH guitars... so I had no choice! :)
Nice job! I like how you encourage people to "feel it" and you don't get really technical. That's what playing the guitar is all about.
Nice to see the Flying High Again solo come up & fine job you did with it too! I remember learning this lead and others back in the day; all the while working on figuring Randy's guitar style. He opened other doors in my mind on guitar playing by making so much fun.
I have to thank you for doing these 80's metal songs/solos as it makes it easier to relearn what I forgot over the years.
Thank you so much for this lesson, man!
You rock brother! Finally decided to sit down and learn this solo properly, and you made it as easy as possible. Probably my favorite Ozzy song with Randy, and I'm stoked to finally play the solo all the way through!
this video is so underrated i'm very happy with this video because it teaches it RIGHT unlike the others! THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you! I appreciate those very kinds words! :)
I love your videos, man. I always go back to them when I'm dusting off a tune that you've covered. So get this...I was listening to the isolated guitar track, and after all these years it just hit me. In your set of notes at 2:27...the last triplet- he ends on the 15th fret! Who knew? Thanks for the great tutorials, man! You've helped me out a ton. Very informative- with the side notes and comments- pretty funny, too.
Best lesson on this solo, hands down. And I know what I'm talkin' about. Subbed.
Thanks Rebel! Rock on!
this is a great, natural lesson for a great solo. the triple tracked version is tight!
I'm really digging that garage door sound. I think if it's triple tracked with a little reverb it can do wonders.
Awesome lesson, bud!! And that EVH has got me gassing HARD for one. lol
Thanks bro! It's been a few months since I picked her up last, and I forgot how great it sounds/feels :)
Man that WG is freaking awesome!! Your collection is epic!! Killer lesson!! Your so awesome!!
Thanks again bro! I still have a ways to catch up to your collection LOL, but thank you!!!
You're playing was extremely clean in the intro. Good job
this is a great tutorial, you have a very mature outlook to this art.
Excellent teaching! Thank U!
Awesome job as usual man. And btw...dont think the hidden content is going to go unseen. Playing randy with a EVH axe. You trickster you. Hahaha. Great video🤘🤘
LOL I only have two guitars that are tuned down 1/2 step all the time... and they are both EVH guitars :)
I wish I was good enough to laugh every time I mess up🙏🏼
Me and my friend watch you on work breaks i keep an old rg in the lab so we can try it thank you im learning a lot
Nice work, thanks for the great lesson.
Still very relevant today and great lesson!
Stellar my friend! (And hey, nice guitar!!)
Thanks Eric, and I would hope you would like this guitar :)
Awesome! Great one Bro!
Your expression is brilliant!
Thank you Oscar! I appreciate the comment! :)

Nice Axe Dave. Thanks for the lesson. Love the Oz.
Thanks bro, let's rock!
this is badass, love this song
Thank you for a great lesson and tab!
Excellent lesson, subscribed 👍
Thanks! :)
Sounds right to me. Thanks! Made my homework a lot easier. :)
Thank you.
Great as usual
THanks man! :)
Great job man!!
I have the same guitar, love it!
PDX do you happen to know the live Suicide Solution spotliggt solo from the Cleveland show in 1981. It's the best version of that solo and I haven't seen anyone play it yet the whole thing.
Awesome! Thanks!
Thanks Sean!!! :)
Nice work!! thk you!!
Dude, fucking awesome!
Thanks!
Oooh boy ! Wow !
Just one question sir. that tapping/descending final part of the solo - how do you explain what he is doing in terms of music theory? is he playing a scale? arpeggios? or something else?
anyways. this is amazing. I wish I had access to this type of tutorials about 20 years ago when I started playing. LOL. You have a new subscriber here.
Thanks bro, I appreciate the nice comment! As for the tapping section, he's basically tapping a major arpeggio over each chord. For example, the first chord he is playing over is Ab, and he's tapping the notes Ab, Eb, C over it, which spells out the notes of an A major chord. Then the second chord is E, and he's tapping the note E, B, G#, which spells out the note of an E major chord. Then he continues on with more chords in the same way. In summary, he's basically playing over each chord, to form the notes of that chord in it's major form. I hope that makes sense :)
Awesome!
Thanks Joe! :)
Awesome video, thanks. I caught a little typo I think the 7th note from the end of the 2nd lick should be 15
George Lynch claims he showed that tapping section to Randy and he used it on this solo. Kind of cool to think about.
Wow, I knew the two had an interesting history together (both on the club scene and the school where George took over Randy's students), but didn't hear that. Very cool :)
Awesome - cheers. I'm preferring this tab to what's uploaded to Songsterr.
Another goood lesson my friend
Thank you Fernando!
it must suck being you PDX, deciding which high end boutique guitar to choose for each video haha Nice job bro !
Ha! Dude I probably have 1/3 the volume of what you own :)
@@PDXguitarfreak It aint about volume bro! I really dig that wolfie, has great tones and lots of clarity.
@@satchbooggy yeah I agree bro, I feel like it's really balanced tone wise and sustains well too.
sos groso !!! saludos desde Argentina
Jajaja la traducción fue graciosa. ¡Gracias mi amigo! 😁 🎸
PDX Guitar Freak Im also from Argentina and I can firmly confirm “groso” is an Argentinian word for “great”. But ur also thick bro no homo
Great lesson as per usual. Question: do you like megadeth or marty friedman solos in particular? Have a great day =)
Hey bro, yeah I first got into Megadeth back in 1985 (Killing is My Business), but the album that I like best is Rust In Peace, when Marty first joined. I had kind of given up on Megadeth after "So Far, So Good," but when he hired Marty and Nick the band just became a powerhouse. I probably listened to that album more than any other that year. Not just the killer solo sections (they were like songs within songs), but the riffs were amazing and the songs too. I also really like Mustaine's playing too. In my opinion, he's one of the best riff writers in metal history, buy I like his fast pentatonic solos too. :)
@@PDXguitarfreak my new year resolution was to play tornado of souls up to speed till march, and i only have to get the final part of the solo from 150 bpm to 198 and ill be able to play it all up to speed. Love that solo, Marty's best imo
@@yonikup2865 Right on bro, I'm subscribed to you now, so I'm looking forward to it :)
@@PDXguitarfreak Wow, thanks man, you're one of my favourite guitarists on youtube. i really appreciate it =)
Ohhhh ... Yea !!! = MegaDeath = Got Better "N" Better = as Time went On !!! = ( The Musical Changes they got ... Now = Wild Sht !!! = last album !!! ...) = i was hearing them since n B4 = Holy Wars ... = !!! )
Seeing all these new guitars the past year tells me someone is channeling their midlife crisis in the same manner I am. I approve!
LOL you are probably right! I've decided to TRY and slow down though :)
i need more time for this one
thanks again
You're welcome bro!
Wow!!
Over the mountain...next?..please.
great job teaching!!! Nothing at all like other lessons on UA-cam where theres too much jibberish. Unorganised teaching of phrasing. While the so called teacher seems to be learning themselves while trying to teach making it confusing. Very nice job concise and to the point while phrasing is made easy!
Thanks Elliott! I try to teach the way I like to learn, so I'm glad others appreciate it too! :)
❤
Awesome... subscribed..\,,/
AWESOME Tutorial! You Rock! By the way, when you slow this down on youtube to get more insight about your lesson, you sound just like Crispen Glover!!! :) Try it sometime!
brother ,can you please do the solo of "in a darkened room by skidrow...the phrasing is very complex for me..thank you...keep up the amazing work
Hey man, thanks for the request. I have a long list to finish, but hopefully someday. :)
Yeah one question what key was that garage door in?
❤️🤗🎶🎶🎶
You are definitely a talented guitarist, and you played this solo really good. I agree that it's difficult to distinguish some of the individual notes because of Randy's doubling and tripling in the studio. That being said, you can listen to the isolated guitar track on youtube. It is still doubled and possibly tripled, but I have to say that in my opinion, there is no bend whatsoever on in the beginning of the solo. The note is actually a very short note and it goes by so quickly that there isn't even time to bend the note. It's just a really quick tap and release on that fret.
Hey bro, thanks for the comment! I went back and listened to the isolated track, and I still feel like there is some sort of bend. Yes, it goes by really fast, but not too quick that it prevents a bend :) I think most people wouldn't notice either way if you played it without a bend.
@@PDXguitarfreak Okay, so I used Windows Media Player to slow the track down to .25 (I meant to do that yesterday and just got side tracked), and holy crap, you are absolutely correct. In fact, you are playing that part exactly like he is. I think it has something to do with the sound setup (very raw) of his equipment, that the transition from one string to the other is hardly noticeable at normal speed, and I honestly don't hear the bend. Props to you for accuracy! How about that track though? He really liked his highs all the way up and went for a raw sound. It sounds like he stepped on his wah pedal and just left it in the toe down position.
I noticed on the long palm muted ascend you didn't use your pinky. Was there a mechanical reason you did this or just plain preferance?
Hi Scott, are you referring to Section 4, which starts at 4:06 ? If yes, then I'm not using my pinky because the stretch (or distance between fretted notes) in that section is no more than 2 frets. I suppose I could have used my pinky on the 16th fret A string note, but the way I did it was easier... in my opinion :)
Is section to triplets quadruplets or two groups of six or I'm on making any sense at all would like to know because I can't get this part to sound right
Section two should be played as quadruplets :)
more randy solos
I will try! I have lessons here on UA-cam for Crazy Train and I Don't Know also :)
Do you have a Helix patch available for this?
It's been about a week since I recorded it, but I believe it was basically the "Lead JCM Mids+" patch I posted on the Line 6 CustomTone website :)
Oh wow. I thought it was the weed making me see 3 guitars. 😎😎
LOL... that's some strong stuff man

I was wondering why is it that when someone like you does these solos, it does not look as fast when I see them performed from Randy or Zake or any other Ozxy guitarist. It does sound good though when you play it of course.
what pedal did you use?
I am using a Line 6 Helix processor for my entire guitar tone/effects here. The guitar goes into the Helix, and then directly into the PC :)
