The guy in the flannelette shirt looks like he went out to check his mail box, saw his mates walking past and decided on a whim to start walking with them ...nek minit 6 hrs later!
Ain't it beautiful to be young, fit, and crazy? Reminds me of own youth and the fun we used to have scrambling up and down challenging peaks, but then we all got older and could never do it again. Congratulations on such a spectacular ascent and showing the rest of the world what a magnificent natural wonder New Zealand and Milford Sound is.
I just come across this by accident....UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE !! and how casual were you all!! You guys were BLOODY lucky with the weather!! I dare say knowing that side of NZ weather is SOOOO unpredictable that you got a VERY large window of good weather! Well done!!!
This is the most scary scramble I have ever seen, don't normally tremble watching videos but this was something else. all I can say guys is very very well done that was amazing. been past Mitre Peak a couple of times but at water level. congratulations to you all.
The intro fooled me, I thought this was going to be a chill reminder of my nice trip to Milford area but quickly became the most anxiety inducing thing I've ever watched on UA-cam including some BASE jumping. I just had to keep telling myself you guys got down to upload and add cute music. EPIC and amazing.
AWESOME GUYS!!! I must admit to a few stomach fluttering moments when you were close to the summit. Ah what it is to be young and adventurous. Thank you so much for sharing the trip. It made this old fellow slightly envious but pleased to see the views from the top. Absolutely beautiful.
I watched this on my 80" 4K screen last night with my wife and seeing you three do this makes me want to lose 15KG, train my body for fitness, toss out all the junk food in my life and book a flight to New Zealand NOW... What an epic adventure to Mitre Peak. Good that you could do it too!
Major props to the 3 of you for getting this tough peak. Years ago I had planned to climb it but eventually ruled it out as being too involved. Coming all the way from Seattle, I did manage to get a bunch of peaks on the south island, but this was not one of them. Thanks for the video and showing me what it's like up there.
I wanted to do this when I was that age over 25 years ago. Ended up going overseas instead. Climbed some different mountains. Great Milford climb! Thanks for filming it and posting it online!
This is a really good video - thanks for posting it. A few mates and I went down to climb Mitre Peak 20 years ago but flagged it and ran the Milford Track instead as the first winter snow dump arrived the same day we did. Watching this I’m glad we passed on Mitre Peak - it’s definitely a summer trip!
Well............been to the Himalayas a few times in the '90's, been up to 5600m, have been above massive land slips on very narrow paths, where a wrong step = death.........this is EPIC. What a rush, what agility...........totally impressed with you guys and this stunning part of the world. Namaste💕💕💕
Incredible fitness and determination. That is living. My respects to you - visited there in 1997 but like most tourists you have only enough time to go on the boat. You have shown us sights that are out of this world. Many many thanks indeed. GvT.
Thank you...that was lovely and remarkable. You have taken me back 50 years to when I went up Sabyinyo which has 3 ascending peaks with major downs between them. I've just read some trip advisor accounts of that climb and realised for the first time in my rubbish life that I must have been quite fit around then....... so thanks again for shining that memory for me.
climbed Sabinyo 38 years ago...similar experience to Mitre; first lots of pulling on branches and roots and then knife-edge ridges and big drops higher up to get to the Central peak. They closed the peak (Sabyinyo) after an accident a few years later. As far as I know it's remained closed ever since.
A great adventure. That was a good scramble and I would not want to be up there in bad weather. Bit of it remind me of Crib Goch in North Wales. Also The Cullin Ridge (both i've done). Crib Goch loads of times. I'd manage Mitre peak on a day like this. Not totally sure if my Wife would like it. Quite exposed in a few places, with hefty drops. One slip and Strawberry Jam indeed. Quote of the day.
Climbing up there is one thing but I almost shat myself just thinking about climbing this down again with all these drops constantly before my eyes! Absolutely bloody crazy!
Congratulations from a Pom who lived in NZ almost 50 years ago I climbed Cook Malte Brun Dixon and the Footstool but these seemed a lot easier than Mitre Peak.Noticed that you never once roped up I guess that was to save weight and time, but meant no abseils on the descent. Envious of you it was on my daydreaming list of climbs together with Mt.Tutoko. Michael Bell Bristol England 19th of August 2023.
Hats off to you guys. A huge effort by you 3. I think you can describe that climb as an extreme experience. Awesome scenery & great camera action. Cheers
Wow that was an awesome adventure to watch, thank you to the team effort and the youthful energetic narration. the camera work each time you peaked the summits had me on the edge of my seat. great stuff.
Awesome!! Spectacular!!! You guys did an amazing job and I just loved the sustained enthusiasm! All this takes me back 25 years when I used to do this, freehand in some gnarly mountains! Thanks so much for this!
Awesome footage. Thank you. Most people won't understand a word you're saying, but ex Kiwi, I got it. Beautiful beautiful New Zealander. Thank you for sharing. That is certainly one of NZ's most majestic places, and you made it better than ever. X The tell all is the size of those boats in the fiord. I've been on those boats multiple times and in this vid they are specs, if you can see them at all. What a majestic climb. Well captured.
I went to Milford Sound in 2016 on a sunny day just like this (which is quite rare). This makes me miss New Zealand so much - sending love from the U.S.! Thanks for the awesome video!
Stunning! Travelled to New Zealand in 2016, the Milford Track & Mitre Peak being high on the list of things to do, unfortunately the timing was wrong & the weather prevented it. A gloomy boat trip through Milford & Doubtful Sounds had to suffice, oh well it gives me reason to return
descending is the most hardest part, i really wanted to see that as most of people go up and say woah!! we climbed but now how to get down now ;) . great trekking guys.
This is totally insane!!without propare equiptment, but you guys stil did it! don't forget to bring parasutes next time. So much easier on the way down..😅😅😅
A Beautiful Video, an iconic location only visited by a select few, in one of the most visited place's in this beautiful Nation, Superb Effort, Congratulations.
My friend climbed the Mitre Peak back in 2016 with a GoPro on his chest, video is on my channel...but the footage doesn't even come close to this. Now I see the real size of the peak and the adrenaline is hitting me while I'm watching. Thanks for this!
Wow! Thanks for filming that, Tamsin. Lying in bed, watching you guys do that, the soles of my feet were tying themselves in knots. (I'm not a big fan of heights). You, Tamsin, are truly amazing. Bugger climbing that.
12:54 Unless the internet is failing me, the only bird in New Zealand with a common name including "rockhopper" is the rockhopper penguin (Eudyptes chrysocome) which are, I believe, unknown to inhabit alpine environments. More likely, the bird is a rock wren (Xenicus gilviventris, aka pwauwau, matuitui, South Island wren, tuke). It is said to be the only truly alpine bird in New Zealand and is endemic to New Zealand. The reptile at 15:43 is probably a Sinbad skink (Oligosoma pikitanga). It is rare and found only in the alpine habitat of the Sinbad Gully. "Pikitanga," in the species name means "mountain climber" in Maori.
Thanks for the video Tasmin. This has been on our list for close to a decade now and we're hoping to do it when we're back in NZ at the end of February!
Geesh. I read son of Beansprout's account of his climb and had no idea what an ordeal it was. We've kayaked it and looked up there wondering what it'd be like to climb it, now I know it's not to be taken lightly. I'm ok with heights but my heart was in my mouth in places, the scale of everything is just huge in there. A great day out, well done you guys.
Crazy good weather, I’d imagine this is near in impossible most days due to the rainfall. Imagine climbing those sheer cliffs when they’re slick, no thanks. Really impressive to do this in one day both luck wise and sheer determination and fitness
I just hiked angels landing in zion national park 4 days ago and I was pretty scared a few times and then I watch you guys on my big screen at home and felt like I was going to die all over again thanks.
Great climb Tamsin, from your Great Uncle, Pete...I always wanted to climb it, even planned the trip but it didn't' come off for family reasons. Typical Fiordland with exposure which has you concentrating ++....like Christina at Homer, or the South Ridge of Barrier. ....or waterfall route on MacPherson....all wonderful memories but at the age of almost 80 won't be doing it. An e-bke unfortunately cannot traverse that country!
OMG, I wasn't planning to watch this but the thumbnail drew me in and then I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. RESPECT! Really had me literally on edge and gripped. Like I was there with you.
So I just came across this today, like many I couldn't quite believe it. And how were you so chilled out Tamsin, you were handling it like it ain't no thang! Massive factor having the weather on your side like that as well. I've done some sketchy climbs myself but nothing of this magnitude in one day. I also have a huge fear of being precariously close to cliff faces so I don't actually know whether I could physically do this even though I may be fit enough but I would be keen to try it. Some of those crossings were insane - camera perspective aside. My palms were drenched just watching this so it doesn't bode well for gripping on smooth rocks! Absolutely epic to watch. A performance that's up there with the pro's. Also something you will remember for the rest of your life.
No clue how this made it into my recommends but i like it. I've done some reckless things im my life but this is kinda bonkers ;) Glad you made it back down safely. Thanks for the awesome ride.
Legends! Awesome adventure... Just what I needed to watch while waiting to finish my isolation after moving back to New Zealand 👍 From another fellow mountain explorer 😀
This is sensational, I love the area and have walked throughout the area including the Milford and Routeburn. But this is another thing. To achieve this feat in one day was great. You must have strong legs and arms! The coming down can present as great a challenge as the assent.
First time I've ever felt compelled to comment on a YT video, thanks for the archair ride Tamsin (especially during covid), what a gnarly day's climb! Keep on exploring this amazing world of ours
Well done, gutsy effort, thanks for sharing your adventure in World Heritage listed Fiordland New Zealand; to have climbed that iconic peak very few Kiwi's would have done that!
I know there is some barrell distortion with action cams like GoPro but I still got the willies watching it. That is some serious stuff but worth it for those stunning views. Respect guys.
Super enjoyed that 👍 I’ve been out on Milford Sound and now I feel like I’ve done Mitre Peak without having to 😅 🤣 but it’s drawing me back now to get the full experience 👌
Stupendous, I suffer from vertigo, just watching you I get queasy. You must have been totally exhausted, even at your age, when you got back. Is going back down harder than going up after expending so much physical effort going up???
Thank You, for sharing this with the world TD. legend tho all u guys - gtg to the mailbox is about my limit these days lol
This is the most under rated comment ever. Seriously hilarious 😂😂😂 you nailed it.

A few years on and this is still my favourite climb on youtube. So watchable, makes you happy inside. Thanks for making this
This is the most scary scramble I have ever seen, don't normally tremble watching videos but this was something else. all I can say guys is very very well done that was amazing.
been past Mitre Peak a couple of times but at water level. congratulations to you all.
You guys made it look so easy but that looks like a terrifying hike. I’d be more scared to come back down!
A climb? Or a hike? A clike?😂😂😂
Had multiple heart attacks watching this. That's the craziest scramble I can imagine. One slip, dead.
Vertigo inducing!
You should see these fools going to K2 in Pakistan
Yes but they didn't, did they :-)
@@LDehaut FOOLS REALLY?
@@LDehaut or better yet the documentary "Free Solo". I sweated more watching than Alex did climbing.
The intro fooled me, I thought this was going to be a chill reminder of my nice trip to Milford area but quickly became the most anxiety inducing thing I've ever watched on UA-cam including some BASE jumping. I feel like holding you to this? do you think you'll do it? Or at least lose the 15kg and toss out the junk food? 😊
some junk food is part of a healthy diet because your mind needs some distraction from shitty Psychotronic Harassement
Did you?
Major props to the 3 of you for getting this tough peak. Years ago I had planned to climb it but eventually ruled it out as being too involved. You guys are incredibly fit to do that up and down in a day. Very impressive
We cheated by getting a Chopper down😅
Thanks for doing this for me, I couldn't do this, even 40yrs ago when I was your age. Beautiful scenery.

This has inspired me to finally clean my apartment.
Hahhahahahaha good one
This inspired me to keep sitting down and watch another UA-cam clip outdoor adventures and maybe get up and grab a snack
My wife and I got sweaty, cold palms--and feet! Thanks for letting us share your experience. Hello from California!
Crazy good video! I am in awe of your nerve, stamina and determination. You're my hero! I'll be following your future adventures.
Congratulations from a Pom who lived in NZ

OMG guys. I had tingles in my legs so many times as I watched this. Well done, but geez, this is actually dangerous stuff.
Wow that was an awesome adventure to watch, thank you to the team effort and the youthful energetic narration. the camera work each time you peaked the summits had me on the edge of my seat. great stuff.
Wow awesome Tamsin, you made a scary route look like a breeze even climbing with the backpack. Amazing!
Awesome!! Spectacular!!! You guys did an amazing job and I just loved the sustained enthusiasm! All this takes me back 25 years when I used to do this, freehand in some gnarly mountains! Thanks so much for this!
"Not afraid of height's, just afraid of death." That was a great comment !!
Wow, what an absolutely amazing climb up to the top of Mitre Peak!! GoPro did a remarkable job by capturing those beautiful perspectives.

Absolutely agree. Not only is judge your step way harder downhill but they must have been knackered which makes it all the harder.
This was such an awesome adventure. I thought there would have been a more well trodden path to the summit. So cool.
Thank you so much for filming and posting that! Love your style, pretty intrepid, and super inspirational!
This is totally insane!!without propare equiptment, but you guys stil did it! don't forget to bring parasutes next time. So much easier on the way down..😅😅😅
thats bloody impressive well done, and thats coming from someone thats been on 7000m peaks, that damn thing looks harder than aconcagua in argentina!
Much thanks for showing breath taking views. Very daring and dashing team.
Absolutely thrilling. heart in mouth stuff. Still not sure how what you did is humanly possible! Glad I came along for the ride ..
A Beautiful Video, an iconic location only visited by a select few, in one of the most visited place's in this beautiful Nation, Superb Effort, Congratulations.
You guys are nuts! Happy to live vicariously through you re that experience. What an amazing day. Incredible views. Awesome film. Super well done! 👏

Thanks for the video Tasmin. This has been on our list for close to a decade now and we're hoping to do it when we're back in NZ at the end of February!
Many thanks from India for showing us beautiful documentary of Mitre peak.
Absolutely amazing! My knees were trembling just watching you climb and the views up there are out of this world 👏😍
This is absolutely breathtaking and the route looks challenging..hmmm need to add this to my bucket list...

stunning!! always incredible to see what one can do in a single day
Wow, great ascent and well filmed. Big congrats to you all for making it, especially Jared who seemed to be really pushing the limits 💪.
I just hiked angels landing in zion national park 4 days ago and I was pretty scared a few times and then I watch you guys on my big screen at home and felt like I was going to die all over again thanks.

Going up looked scetchy, but going down must have just as hard with loose rock like that.
Beautiful scenery!! I loves to hiking likes you guys do . Now I am hiking Easy ways.
OMG, I wasn't planning to watch this but the thumbnail drew me in and then I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. RESPECT! Really had me literally on edge and gripped. Like I was there with you.
That looks terrifying!
Your footage is craaaaazy.
My heart rate is in the crazy zone just watching you.
Brave and obviously not scared of heights👍✌️
I would like to sleep in my tent at the campsite - bugger the rest too scary
So I just came across this today, like many I couldn't quite believe it. And how were you so chilled out Tamsin, you were handling it like it ain't no thang! That looked bloody amazing (and scary)! Visiting Milford Sound by boat was awesome but this is a spectacular new perspective
Wow!! The risk/reward of this hike is stupendous! Bravo
Thanks for sharing your epic climb. I wouldn't have the nerve let alone the fitness to achieve this. Well done!
This makes me miss NZ so much. What an awesome climb. I’d love to do it.
Nice work guys, thanks for the video. Im looking at doing it this summer, but ill probably take a bit more gear with me, dont want to get caught out!
That was EPIC! Thanks for sharing. I will be adding Mitre Peak to the bucket list!
Been watching people summit Mt everest, but I don't know why this freaks me out more... Lol yous are amazing! 😍👏
So so beautiful and you guys are so brave !
Wow. That was breathtaking!! Just gorgeous up there. I’m gonna watch this again on the big screen tonight.
It was pretty awesome up there! Thanks for watching!
This is sensational, I love the area and have walked throughout the area including the Milford and Routeburn. But this is another thing. To achieve this feat in one day was great. You must have strong legs and arms! The coming down can present as great a challenge as the assent.
That was amazing! This is a route that I have long dreamed of doing! Thank you for sharing that!
First time I've ever felt compelled to comment on a YT video, thanks for the archair ride Tamsin (especially during covid), what a gnarly day's climb! Keep on exploring this amazing world of ours
Holy shit. I'm both extremely impressed and a little nervous for you! Thank you for sharing it.
Awesome, lucky to get good weather, they measure the rainfall in meters there!
Yes, you have to pick the right day. It can change so quickly there.
Great video! Looked like a fab adventure Tamsin. Thanks for sharing :)
Well done, gutsy effort, thanks for sharing your adventure in World Heritage listed Fiordland New Zealand; to have climbed that iconic peak very few Kiwi's would have done that!
Big respect to you. This made me really scared just watching from the comfort of my chair!
I know there is some barrell distortion with action cams like GoPro but I still got the willies watching it. That is some serious stuff but worth it for those stunning views. Respect guys.
That looked so high I felt like I was going to fall off my couch! what a trip. I gotta do this one.
Super enjoyed that 👍 I’ve been out on Milford Sound and now I feel like I’ve done Mitre Peak without having to 😅 🤣 but it’s drawing me back now to get the full experience 👌
Wow! Super impressed. Now on my bucket list for sure! I have no idea how you guys got down those steep faces!
Great view from the summit across the Tasman sea, on a good day you can see the Sydney opera house.
youre kidding right? :D
Looks absolutely amazing, thanks for sharing.
Stupendous, I suffer from vertigo, just watching you I get queasy. You must have been totally exhausted, even at your age, when you got back. Is going back down harder than going up after expending so much physical effort going up???
Knowing aske personally, he's a bit of mountain goat legend in those parts around milford.
Ive done mitre peak along with quite a few others down south and mitre peak has got to be the spookiest that comes to mind. nice job.
excellent video, think I'll stick to the small hills and ridges in Scotland...
What a tough crew to have lunch with ! Great footage, kinda scary. KUDOS!
I was holding onto things around me whilst watching that...
Thanks for climbing and filming this so that I don't have to. ;-)
Breathtaking.....congrats for the strength and courage.
Fantastic video in every way. Neat people too. Impressed.
Is the air thin up there? Not for the faint-hearted...Amazing! Gods up in the clouds.
Thank You, for sharing this with the world TD. I have done similar things further North in NZ (with a rifle over my shoulder) ................. but not quite as many knife edge ridges (and a bit more Snow and Ice), as this monumental effort, by you three.
