Rerouting the main ground wire that is in the harness that crosses the alternator will cure the rpm fluctuation around 1400 rpm. The alternator is causing feedback via that ground which causes the computer to lock/unlock the torque converter. Pulling the ground wire away fixed the surging in my '98 2500 Cummins.
Considering the low cost I was skeptical, but on the road today for 100 miles and the 50mph stutter is gone as is the check engine light. And the fuel mileage is up a little bit, too. The truck is back to being a pleasure to drive. Very pleased.
Would be nice if they were to describe the benefits of installing this. I just keep mine out of overdrive until I get up to interstate speeds....Told by an old timer that doing that keeps the converter supple and the changes in kicking in and out using the button keeps the valve body clean from the pressure fluctuations. Also always kick out of gear when stopped for any red lights or delays in travel. Again, Good for the inner workings......
my 01 is doin this replaced the apps sensor still doing it -non consistantly but more around 30-40mph,,for the few bucks worth trying anyone else know what it could be ?
@@okdk5040 nope never bought it the tps was bad then got a new one that lasted for a couple months then shit the bed again so I got a 4th gen lol . I feel your pain absolutely annoying
Can these go bad because my truck is unlocking and locking at 45 to 55 eaither speed it does it. And I just put a new apps sensor on because I thought it went bad so I replaced it but it is still doing it and I already have and isolator. And it went away for a while now it just came back. I'm not sure if I do a reset on the apps if that will help or not
I have to reset my apps quite often. A new apps will not help unless your old one is going bad,..but that would be more of a coincidence than anything else.
Exactly what is the function of the wire that you splice into?, i just like to have a little more information rather than just "Attach to this wire", the reason for it, and just what is the "APPS Isolator" I prefer to understand why, rather than just "Do this" Thanks,
I know this noise iso. problem has been around since they first made these trucks. Using a small capacitor, such as this BD unit, in many cases is all you need. My question is (i've been in the electronic business since before dodge even had diesels.).......Why do you not also properly install a choke ("coil" in laymens terms), In all cases I can remember, when filtering out high frequencies,. you can DOUBLE the amount of filtering by also properly adding a choke,..admittedly, a coil will cost you more than a couple cents,.. I know you have to make money on this stuff,. but I'll bet a lot of folks that your initial unit did not help....would be super happy with twice the filtering. Anyway,.. I am just asking this question because I do not believe I have seen one single comment on a chatboard about it (even after all these years),..in fact,..I think most people have no idea you just have a tiny inexpensive capacitor to do your filtering. If this is actually the ground wire for the computer,..why not filter the hot also?
Clay, I would be interested in trying this but I have no idea what parts are needed. If you can describe what parts are needed and where to source the parts, I'm capable of splicing/soldering, installing heat shrink, and installing it. These trucks are so sensitive it seems like more filtering is needed so what you are describing may work. Point us to the exact wire, choke, and method for installing your suggested kit and we'll try it out. Assume we don't know anything about electronics/capacitors/chokes/coils/etc.
Mine was surging at 45-50 mph i have tried pretty much everything i was recommended the sponge fix so i oredered it i will install tomorrow i will let you guys know if it works
Need to know what wire on a 05 dodge Cummins to tap

The Magnetic Field the Alternator emits while operating that interferes with the Battery jumper wire.
What if you don’t have di-electric grease?
i put mine on 2 weeks ago and it has fix my shudder so far well worth the 25 bucks.
i just ordered one. ill post when i get it and let everyone know it it helped my tc lockup.
Well?
Why isn't there a post from dodge on this problem if it's so common ?
I heard this can help the V10 as well?

did you ever end up buying it?? mines is having the same crap. changed the tps and nothing
@@okdk5040 nope never bought it the tps was bad then got a new one that lasted for a couple months then shit the bed again so I got a 4th gen lol . I feel your pain absolutely annoying
Sometimes the tap doesn't work so you have to splice the wire then insulation is a must but should fix

@@clayaustin9339 Well don't Go To Dodge and have them re flash it.

Me i am going to cut back the ground cabel a see if there is corrosion, When the new ones come in.
