The mantra of every reader: So many books, so little time
Historical fiction- my recommendations would have to be Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and The Other Boelyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory.
This is a great idea for a series!
I'm excited to see if you end up finding new books and genres that you love.
If you want a classic Agatha Christie book, read And Then There Were None. It's a great mystery novel! 💕love this idea!
Where the Crawdads Sing is absolutely a must for Historic / General Fiction! I am trying my very first sci-fi book this coming week. I have never read a sci-fi book of any kind.
That hair color 😍 You're gorgeous!
I broke my book bubble with Sally Rooney's 'Normal People' this time last year, and it was the best thing I've ever done. Opened myself up to the world of literary fiction (which, I should say, encompasses a lot of different genres - it's more about the target audience of readers than anything) and had the best reading year ever. Excited for your journey!
The trick with nonfiction is to investigate something you already love.
If you like...
- Jane Austen, I suggest Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worlsey
- True crime, but without violence, check out The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnston
- Old houses, Bill Bryson's At Home
etc.
Girl, hit me up when you’re ready to start with Stephen King. I GOT YOU THERE!
Happy to help when you're interested in getting into nonfiction! 😊
I love this idea of breaking out of your book bubble and I hope you enjoy exploring some new genres 😊
I think you'll love Stephen King. I was intimidated by his books for so long, but it surprised me how easily they were to get into. Loved IT and 11/22/63. Enjoyed NOS4A2 by his son Joe Hill as well!
This sounds like such a fun series! As a big romance reader, I hope you find something you enjoy when dipping your toe into the genre! I'm personally a huge fan of Tessa Dare's and think she's a great entry point to the genre, though it sounds like you have your historical romances already picked out.
Also, since you do love sff, you should really check out Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik. It's a great scifi/romance crossover book about a space princess and an escaped convict who are both on the run, and it is excellent. The sequel, Aurora Blazing, might be even better!
Good luck with your reading!
This sounds like both fun and a challenge, which reminds me I should probably follow your lead and expand my own bubble some more as well. But whenever I ask my friends for recommendations they give me 800+ page behemoths or nightmare-inducing horrors - I've tackled some of the behemoths, but I really don't like reading horror.
Books I can recommend outside of fantasy/sci-fi:
- River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey for Alternate History, it's strange but it works somehow
- DinoPark by Michael Crichton for Biological Thriller, the awesome book behind Jurassic Park
- The Swarm by Frank Schätzing for Biological Thriller or Sci-Fi (it's complicated), a fascinating but hefty tome
- Earthly Delights by Kerry Greenwood for Crime, great even if it's not a typical example
If you'd like to add some manga into the mix, then Skip Beat by Yoshiki Nakamura might be a good option. It's YA contemporary (I guess), but it's wild and loud in a good way that I haven't found in a novel yet
Historical Romance highly recommend Kathleen E Woodiwiss. It says she brought this genre to life back in the early 70s. The first book I read at 18 ( that’s quite some years ago now ☺️) A Rose in Winter. I can 100% say it will not disappoint. Looking forward to see what you choose to read.
I love this idea, and I can't wait to watch your reading vlogs! I don't know if you've already filmed historical romance; if not, I highly recommend you read Diana Biller's The Widow of Rose House. I absolutely adored it.
This make up look is 😍😍😍
I really question why UA-cam has a dislike button at all. Every time a see any amount of dislikes on some videos I just ask myself how could you dislike such an awesome thing as this.
Are you going to try classics? I know technically not a genre, but it's different from modern novels. A few years ago my friend introduced me to Fool's Paradise by Tori Philips and its really cute for one of the few historical romances I have read.
I love that we're getting so many videos lately👍👍
I'm so excited for this. I've strayed away from YA/fantasy/sci-fi these past few years and while I really love you as a booktuber I haven't been as quick to click on your videos because I don't know much about the books you've been talking about. It'll be so nice to hear how you like branching out and I look forward to your insights!
All time historical romance favorite is The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly ❤️
I love this idea! I definitely recommend The Binding by Bridget Collins which is also magical realism! Also The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani was amazing!
I'm looking forward to the historical romance video! It's not a genre I touch so I'm hoping to find some recs
This is such a lovely idea!!
This is such an interesting way to read different books!
Ooh, This looks like a fun idea. For King I'd start with either Carrie, Misery, or Pet Sematary.
Some of my favorite books:
Romance: Nalini Singh - Her Psy/Changling series is amazing. Not only do you have a good romance going on in each book, but the plot and actual store of the series is amazing imo.
Horror: World War Z by Max Brooks - Please, Please, PLEASE read this one. One of my favorite books of all time, not just horror.
Fantasy: The Death Gate Cycle - This series just doesn't get enough love.
I love this as much as I love your makeup.
I think if you aren’t liking a lot of the books in a particular, maybe talking about what you didn’t like and what you did like would help with recommendations if you decide to try the genre again.
Uuuh, interesting! I'm excited! Can't wait for sci-fi, contemporary and Agatha Christie's books.
lol
This year I am trying break my book bubble too. I actually read my first “classic” novel this month and I loved it so much. Thank you Jane Austen
Edit: it was pride and prejudice and if you haven’t read it pls do
Five books is a good idea
Your eye makeup is always so stunning! I read outside of my comfort zone a lot! Historical Fiction is my biggest problem genre in finding a book I love! Stephen King books are great via audio! 😉
this is such a good idea! I always have this in the back of my mind. Lately I find i'll be reading all A fantasy and feel like they start blending together, a great way to break it up is trying a new book. and as well and binge reading a series, I'll break it up with a totally different stand alone book.
A must read is Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor
This is such an awesome idea!! I have been trying to get out of my own book bubble for a while now also and it has gotten me to read a few middle grade books that I absolutely love now!! And now my TBR is filled with so many middle grade books lol. I'm excited to see the books you read to get yourself out of your own book bubble!
I love this idea! I'm not trying to break out of any bubbles, but am trying to read more in genres that I know I like but don't get too all that often.
This is such a great idea. I can't really recommend anything for this one but I'm really looking forward to watching this series. :D
Diana Gabaldon and Anne Rice - my all time fave authors ❤️
I was just about to ask whether Stephen King counts as his own "genre", but you answered it so I laughed😅
Such a great idea, cannot wait for the videos💝🥰
I've been trying to do that as well these past months! My comfort zone is basically anything YA, but I'm not enjying YA as much since being in my twenties... so I'm trying to pick up more adult books, but I'm scared!
I cannot wait for True Crime
I tried doing this by joining a book club at work and so far it’s not going great for me. I only enjoyed 2 books so far and one was YA and the other had big sci-fi elements which made it appealing to me. Going to keep trying though.
Brilliant idea! Cannot wait to see the upcoming videos!
This sounds really interesting and it'll be an exciting journey. I'm already looking forward to the "result". Maybe you'll find new favorite genres or you'll continue to keep away from some after your newest experience. My bubble is full if fantasy, distopian, some sci-fi and little contemporary which I haven't touched in a while because I find the books there or rather the books I pick tend to be so sad or sometimes they just bore me or the characters especially in this genre have a tendency to annoy me. I also get the feeling that when you've reached a certain age peiple tend to look at you like you're childish or crazy for sticking to fantasy books, sometimes I have been asked when I want to start growing up, live in the real world and put thise children books away. I mean, reading should be an enjoyable activity regardless of the genre one picks and regardless of the age you're at.
Great idea but I also have the same book bubble so it's hard to recommend. Hmm one of my fav horror's is "The Woman in Black" the rest are all Stephen King so yeah :))
this is such a cool idea!
Agatha christie- I'd highly recommend Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. Stephen King- Needful Things, The Stand and the Mr Mercedes series.
Whenever you decide to read Stephen King books, please read 'Lisey's Story' because it's one of my favourite books of all time.
Oooo that would be in her comfort zone as well since it's a bit speculative too!! I'd like to hear her thoughts
Good luck!
I love this idea! 🌙✨🥰
This is such a great idea, Caz! I’m so excited to see how your horizons expand!
This is such a cool idea! I can't wait until you do Stephen King.
If you ever do Agatha Christie one I recommend Murder on orient express, And then there were none and The body in the library
And also The Murder of Roger Ackroyd!
Nadhilla Melia yesss
If you'd like to throw a YA historical romance in the mix, I'd be honored if you would read OLIVIA TWIST. ☺️
I really struggle with non fiction
You should try paranormal romance
Anna Dressed in Blood - Kendare Blake :)
Mara from Bookslikewhoa have great Agatha Christie recommendation videos and Where to Start videos.
Dark Academia : the secret history!!!
I’d really like to see if you’d like The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager! I read it this month and thought it was great. I think of all of the adult thrillers I’ve read it might be a good one for you. It’s almost half YA half adult too.
Cozy mysteries! =D
So here for this 🎉🎉🎉
Ooo I love this idea!
They should call a spade a spade and call the historical romance genre historical erotica. They should call all writing that is erotica just that: no euphemistic labelling re books.
Hi,
For me, i don't care what time of book i'm reading. I read to have fun and to get knowledge.
Yong generation are not that fun of what they say "havy books" whitch are books that talk about phylosophie or science in general.
That being said. I'm happy that you finally thought that you maight messed interessting books. I won't recommand any of them, become every one has his taste.
Historical/paranormal/steampunk - The Parasol Protectorate series is hilarious. Werewolves in Victorian England. High society. Posh vampires. Dirigibles.
Have you read or thought about reading The Witcher series?
This sounds like such a fun idea!
For non-fiction I would recommend dividing it at least into like biographies, sciences, and social sciences. I'm sure there's more and these can also be broken down further, but I'd say it's maybe the easiest starting point, and then delve into each one separately?
Also, yes for mystery and thriller! That is my top favorite category of genres along with fantasy.
