I feel like people downplay how strong and how much endurance Doflamingo has. The dressrosa arc was like the second worst day of his life and he was fighting some tough opponents back to back. In between it all I think he just had a little Power Nap.
Literally though. People say that he got wrecked by Luffy, but they forget that he'd already been fighting Law and Luffy for hours, he had half his organs basically demolished that he was fixing at the time, he had the birdcage going over Dressrosa which is apparently the size of Australia, he was controlling people in the streets to kill others, plus he tanked Law and Luffy's hits multiple times. Luffy had to take multiple breaks and he had significant help from Law and others. If it had been a straight 1V1 fight from the start of Luffy vs Doflamingo, Doffy would have absolutely won.
My theory is that Magellan and Doffy knew each other before Doffy was imprisoned. Like we know Doffy was THE underground broker, so who's to say Magellan didn't use him to get extra stuff for the prison, or for himself (we know the WG used him)? Maybe they already had a close business relationship before this and, knowing Doffy, he would be using that to his advantage to manipulate Magellan into doing what he wants. Doffy is the master manipulator after all and Magellen doesn't really seem to be all that emotionally intelligent. That whole scene with them in the recent chapter where they're chatting like old friends and Magellan is super chill around him seems to be showing that Doffy's got him where he wants him and is going to leverage that to get out. Honestly, that would be pretty fire. Doffy manipulating the wardens and prisoners onto his side to breakout and then basically having a much bigger and more terrifying crew when he escapes. Imagine the chaos he could inflict. Maybe then he could use that to join Cross Guild as well, which would only up the stakes even higher.
This chapter confirmed luffys fruit is just rubber. Nika couldn't be anything he wants. He was always described as a rubber human. The nika fruit is just rubber abilities and awakening it gives you more freedom but also now you can create themes/gags to fit your rubber attack. Like creating goggles when you go mock 5 with a slingshot attack. Thats why luffy didnt spawn a bat. He had to create it using a nearby tree and then the fruit brought his inagination to life by spawning paint and a baseball hat to fit the theme of the attack
I don’t believe Magellan protected doflamingo from an assassin but rather stopped the assassination order by putting him in solitary so he can’t tell any secrets to anyone. So it’s more of a compromise than direct conflict.

I can already see the BuddyCop movie Something attacks Impel Down causing a massive riot that leads to a breakout Hanibal blames Magellan so the World Government threatens to kill Magellan for his incompetence Magellan asks for a few days to prove his innocence. He tells Doffy he wont be guarding him anymore but Doffy offers to help him Magellan refuses but then an assassin comes to kill Magellan. Seeing that someone tried to betray him he frees Doffy for help (leaving the seastone cuffs on of course) Then they both travel the world in an uneasy alliance trying to find the culprit
Magellan would likely think, Duffy as a psychotic criminal, is lying about the World Gov. unless Vegapunk confirms things Duffy has claimed. Maybe instead of a massive break out , Magellan will turn the prisoners into a pirate crew who will show up in the final fight.

Idk i always kinda figured the although the Marines are PART of the wrold goverment they still kinda fall under seperate flags. If the marines were gonna execute him it would be fine but a public execution with what Doffy knows would be disatreous. But the world nobles or Gorosei sending an assassin theyre not gonna tell Mangellan, the less everyone knows the better. So Mangellan is just doing what he always does, protect the prisoners fro outside forces, and since Doffys assassination or execution isnt like official, hes just keeping his stance.
The only way I think this makes sense is if the World Government wants Doflamingo alive but it's other Celestial Dragons that want him dead just because of how Doflamingo makes them look. And this would explain why CP0-9 aren't the ones to kill Doffy it's just Underworld hired assassins

My unerstanding is that the Goverment did not inform Magellan about the assasins neither did they order him to execute Doflamingo himself because they were afraid that if Doflamingo knew he was about to die he might have started spouting information that neither Magellan or anyone alse at the prison should know about.
Magellan is a warden, his job is to protect the prisoners no matter what, including from the government. The just, legal process, as we've seen with ace and roger, would be to give him a proper execution. Not sending assassin's to kill him. Magellan's logic makes perfect sense imo

What if BB just doubles back to impel down cos Devon taking the appearance of Saturn to then use that to go impel down again for Doffy because BB might be curious of Doffy since it was in the news that Kaido sent Jack to bring back Doffy knowing who was on that ship guarding doffy BB would analyse that as Doffy being important for information also (BB loves information so that he can create more chaotic but expertly strategised plans) and whilst doing that he could use leeway of taking out the "assassin" to get Doffy to join him for information purposes or to make a deal with him most likely for information
as i finished typing this I did just think "Also where tf is Lafite?" and the fact that this assassin is in impel down but hasn't been found I highly doubt they're in New Kama Land( level 5.5) and he's also the only BB pirate we haven't seen doing things besides getting into Marijos (spelt it wrong ik) undetected whilst there being people there with observation haki wouldnt be surprised if Sengoku had advanced obv n he still couldn't detect him so that kinda adds up to how this assassin is in impel down completely undetected not even a dead body from a guard that saw him by accident (which usually happens when assassins are found out by connecting the dots of where n when the body was found and how they died)
I actually disagree with you Tekking- well at least partially. While I do believe that Magellan might be conflicted because of the things Doffy could be telling him- I personally believe it is quite in character to "defend the prisoners". Why? Because that is his job- Magellan is clearly shown as honorable and thinks of the Prison as his responsibility first and foremost. Magellan seems to be a "by the book" guy. He has a role to fulfill and to make sure the prison sentences are carried out. The people in there are supposed to suffer. If they can't do that, then why even have the prison, the job, his job. If pirates can break out and even his own employers start breaking the rules by assassinating a guy who is supposed suffer in the worst way possible, then what is the prison for. The symbol that they have upheld for y e a r s. The same symbol the cowardly Hannyabal was willing to die for when facing off against some of the worst criminals alive- the thing that makes the common people feel safe. If the world government just got doffy out and executed him like normal, then I don't think Magellan would bat an eye, but they can't- cause they already had the Roger incident and the Whitebeard Incident, don't want another incident happening. So it all boils down to Magellans (and lets be honest also Hannyabals) values, the tattered symbol that he wants to uphold. Who knows, maybe it even was Hannyabals orders and he is just following orders. Magellen & the prison probably plays by the beat of their own drum. The World Government does not get to execute Impel Down's prisoners, Impel Down does it when Impel Down wants to. Especially since executions were obviously Enies Lobby's job. Impel Down is a very deadly Life Sentence, with a splash of death at the whims of the guards and warden.
I think magellan will definitely have his morals change about the world where not all pirates r evil and not all marines or government officials r the good guys it really is 50/50 on both sides so with him letting doffy out of his cell for watever reason its cus magellan is wanting to know where this new path in the world will go if he makes this big decision to start giving pirates a chance and starts looking at the wg differently compared to before where he actually wont be loyal to them anymore since it wasnt really the governments order to keep magellan alive it was sengoku who is below the government so in reality magellan will leave off into a new life and see wat happens next
I think you fundamentally misunderstand Magellan. He's fine if pirates will die, he's fine if they'll suffer.... But they need to be sentenced lawfully for that. If you're sentenced to boil or freeze in Impel Down, that's great. But if they're about to be assasinated, even if by WG, that's not right. Magellan is definitely somewhere on Lawful chart. Arguably neutral leaning towards good.
Does Magellan have to be loyal or the government in terms of devotion. Maybe he thought that as the failed prison warden the government would kill him for his failure. The government imprisoned who’s who for failing.

Honestly, Magellan protecting Dofy makes a lot of sense. He was always adamant about protecting the lives of the inmates, unless they are trying to escape. If the prisoners could or would just be executed, there wouldnt be need for a prison at all. Killing prisoners is exactly why Shiryu was imprisoned, so him sticking to his integrity makes sense. also I dont think Magellan said the prison flooded, he said: "That one meter rise the other day .... .... Had the prison panicking... How many meters does it take to sink the whole world?" The impel down was most likely dry, but the one meter increase would increase all of the pressure the prison is under by about 1 unit for every meter the prison is tall, which could compromise its integrity in its entirety. Its not that the prison will leak and let water in, its that the prison is literally being squashed by the weight of the ocean.
I agree being a prisoner still means he has constitutional rights. He may serve guaranteed rights of people (prisoners) above the current goals of the government

I think the key point is, the prisoners get a sentence and maybe Magellan is very serious about not abusing his power. Or maybe he listens to the government so much that if they say “he will serve his life time here” he will make sure that person serves his time whatever the cost, Even if he has to protect the prisoner
A similar part is more about Magellan sticking to his own justice, kinda being a pseudo-Admiral in terms of role. What Magellan was more concerned about, if I recall correctly, was more about the consequences of losing the prisoners. Also, executions of prisoners for reasons that aren't Magellan's are something Magellan proved he was against in Impel Down; it's half the point of the Shiryu conflict. As for executions, weren't executions literally part of Magellan's warden powers in case of emergency anyway? EDIT: I now have an image of Minotaurus not just being HR but the primary recruiter. Imagine that job fair on a random island. You've got the World Economic Times, a random bakery, wapol's medical team, marine recruiters, maybe Paulie from Water 7, a couple of local restaurants, Baratie staff, insurance salespeople, Minotaurus, and a staffing agency utilizing the Sora comic to front for research for the Germa.
I think the most interesting part of their back and forth in chapter 1114 is Magellan asking Doflamingo, “How many meters does it take to sink the world?” It seems like a simple question but Magellan probably has no idea. But the way that he phrases it seems to imply that Magellan is confident that Doffy would know the answer. And of course that answer is 5m would swallow most cities. Magellan asking that question seems to imply that Doffy knows a lot about the true nature of the world to which Magellan and us as readers are oblivious. I wouldn’t be surprised if Magellan has been swayed by Doffy somehow.
Speaking of payroll, something I've always thought about since watching One Piece is HOW much do Marine ranks get paid? It is a job, at the end of the day, & I always imagine how much admirals or Fleet admiral makes each year. Could be a fun idea for a video.
I would imagine that they get good money since they are constantly risking their lives against criminals with supernatural abilities, I'd imagine they get a similar amount of money to the bounties of the people they capture, so they would get paid very well even if they take care of bandits like Higuma
Also when some Prisoner disrespected Boa Hancock, he actually executed a few Prisoners, so Magelan can get pretty brutal. And my second Observation is, The WG doesnt even need to send an Assasine, they can just sentence him to death. For a extreme Gouvernment, its honestly quiet surprising they didnt just execute Pirates on the Spot.
Use anime logic tho not real life scientific logic. Luffy is rubber and he can get sliced with swords and impaled with crocodiles hook, but somehow he can deflect bullets. So Doffy overheat ability might just evaporate/vaporize the poison or something who knows. It doesn't have to make sense, whatever it is
@dustindean4618 Rubber has a high electric resistance, not infinite. A big enough voltage will still choose to go through the rubber to the ground. Thus affecting his body and organs. Wow, UA-cam crashed with me just trying to type that. This happens way too often.
1. The world government really cares about appearances, so they wouldn't give the order to officially execute Doffy unless it was public. So they probably hired a third party to do it. Magellan could easily believe it's more likely that people are trying to break Doffy out rather than kill him. 2. Magellan has always been strongly against prisoner execution. He even locked up his own jailer for it. 3. If Magellan was so distraught he was willing to take his own life but got given another chance to work, there is no way he's letting his highest profile prisoner disappear under any circumstances.
I love Magellan, but Doffy would wreck him. Pre-time skip Luffy with some wax was giving it to Magellan. Luffy needed Gear 4 to beat Doffy and even then he needed to use it twice because once wasn’t enough. Doffy is confirmed to use haki as well where as I don’t believe we have ever gotten confirmation Magellan can use it. He might have always just relied on his poison for all we know.
If the end of One Piece is gonna look like Ragnarok, then I think Doflamingo would be analogous to Nidhogg. He's gonna carry out the damned souls of Impel Down onto the battlefield.

I wonder if strong haki is a hard counter against Magellan's poison. Law used haki against a sickness he was already infected with (which still seems weird to me), so I guess haki would remove the effect of the poison as well.
Yeah, but that was a transformation-type effect and not harming Law. I feel like getting your arm melted off isn't reversible with Haki. But haki might be able to prevent the poison from doing anything if used first.

I believe that just like the admirals do, Magellan has his own sense of justice, which includes keeping his prisoners safe and the WG is willing to compromise with him on that since there's not many people in the world willing and able to be the Impel Down warden.

You forgot Doffy can make string clones of himself and has awakened his DF. If Doffy were to go all out from the start he'd win pretty handedly. Isolates him with his awakening, Magellan responds by taking to take Doffy. Surprise! It's a clone! Real Doffy chops up the vulnerable Magellan.
What if BB just doubles back to impel down cos Devon taking the appearance of Saturn to then use that to go impel down again for Doffy because BB might be curious of Doffy since it was in the news that Kaido sent Jack to bring back Doffy knowing who was on that ship guarding doffy BB would analyse that as Doffy being important for information also (BB loves information so that he can create more chaotic but expertly strategised plans) and whilst doing that he could use leeway of taking out the "assassin" to get Doffy to join him for information purposes or to make a deal with him most likely for information
as i finished typing this I did just think "Also where tf is Lafite?" and the fact that this assassin is in impel down but hasn't been found I highly doubt they're in New Kama Land( level 5.5) and he's also the only BB pirate we haven't seen doing things besides getting into Marijos (spelt it wrong ik) undetected whilst there being people there with observation haki wouldnt be surprised if Sengoku had advanced obv n he still couldn't detect him so that kinda adds up to how this assassin is in impel down completely undetected not even a dead body from a guard that saw him by accident (which usually happens when assassins are found out by connecting the dots of where n when the body was found and how they died)

I actually disagree with you Tekking- well at least partially. While I do believe that Magellan might be conflicted because of the things Doffy could be telling him- I personally believe it is quite in character to "defend the prisoners". Why?
Because that is his job- Magellan is clearly shown as honorable and thinks of the Prison as his responsibility first and foremost. Magellan seems to be a "by the book" guy. He has a role to fulfill and to make sure the prison sentences are carried out. The people in there are supposed to suffer.
If they can't do that, then why even have the prison, the job, his job. If pirates can break out and even his own employers start breaking the rules by assassinating a guy who is supposed suffer in the worst way possible, then what is the prison for. The symbol that they have upheld for y e a r s. The same symbol the cowardly Hannyabal was willing to die for when facing off against some of the worst criminals alive- the thing that makes the common people feel safe.
If the world government just got doffy out and executed him like normal, then I don't think Magellan would bat an eye, but they can't- cause they already had the Roger incident and the Whitebeard Incident, don't want another incident happening.
So it all boils down to Magellans (and lets be honest also Hannyabals) values, the tattered symbol that he wants to uphold. Who knows, maybe it even was Hannyabals orders and he is just following orders. Honestly, if it somehow comes out that Doffy died in prison via assassination that would be the end of the prison basically.
And with all the shit that is going down and went down, can ya blame anyone in the prison for being a bit cautious or a bit too convicted.
Besides, another interesting thought to ponder about. Honestly for most of these guys the prison might be their home, their "house" per say. Don't see many of these going anywhere else than working in the hellish prison, so, maybe it feels even moreso an insult to their "house rules" that theyve enforced for however many decades this prison has been a thing.
Magellen & the prison probably plays by the beat of their own drum. The World Government does not get to execute Impel Down's prisoners, Impel Down does it when Impel Down wants to.

Impel Down is a very deadly Life Sentence, with a splash of death at the whims of the guards and warden.
I think magellan will definitely have his morals change about the world where not all pirates r evil and not all marines or government officials r the good guys it really is 50/50 on both sides so with him letting doffy out of his cell for watever reason its cus magellan is wanting to know where this new path in the world will go if he makes this big decision to start giving pirates a chance and starts looking at the wg differently compared to before where he actually wont be loyal to them anymore since it wasnt really the governments order to keep magellan alive it was sengoku who is below the government so in reality magellan will leave off into a new life and see wat happens next
I think you fundamentally misunderstand Magellan.
He's fine if pirates will die, he's fine if they'll suffer....
But they need to be sentenced lawfully for that. If you're sentenced to boil or freeze in Impel Down, that's great. But if they're about to be assasinated, even if by WG, that's not right.

Honestly, Magellan protecting Dofy makes a lot of sense. He was always adamant about protecting the lives of the inmates, unless they are trying to escape. If the prisoners could or would just be executed, there wouldnt be need for a prison at all. Killing prisoners is exactly why Shiryu was imprisoned, so him sticking to his integrity makes sense.

The impel down was most likely dry, but the one meter increase would increase all of the pressure the prison is under by about 1 unit for every meter the prison is tall, which could compromise its integrity in its entirety. Its not that the prison will leak and let water in, its that the prison is literally being squashed by the weight of the ocean.

Yeah thats exactly what it is. Magellan thinks its fishy that the government is trying to secretly assassinate Doffy. It makes him think they might be trying to cover something up.
I think the key point is, the prisoners get a sentence and maybe Magellan is very serious about not abusing his power. Or maybe he listens to the government so much that if they say “he will serve his life time here” he will make sure that person serves his time whatever the cost, Even if he has to protect the prisoner
A similar part is more about Magellan sticking to his own justice, kinda being a pseudo-Admiral in terms of role. What Magellan was more concerned about, if I recall correctly, was more about the consequences of losing the prisoners. Also, executions of prisoners for reasons that aren't Magellan's are something Magellan proved he was against in Impel Down; it's half the point of the Shiryu conflict.
As for executions, weren't executions literally part of Magellan's warden powers in case of emergency anyway?

I think the most interesting part of their back and forth in chapter 1114 is Magellan asking Doflamingo, “How many meters does it take to sink the world?” It seems like a simple question but Magellan probably has no idea. But the way that he phrases it seems to imply that Magellan is confident that Doffy would know the answer. And of course that answer is 5m would swallow most cities. Magellan asking that question seems to imply that Doffy knows a lot about the true nature of the world to which Magellan and us as readers are oblivious. I wouldn’t be surprised if Magellan has been swayed by Doffy somehow.

Everytime we see Doflamingo, it's a good scene. He always knows more than he says.
1. The world government really cares about appearances, so they wouldn't give the order to officially execute Doffy unless it was public. So they probably hired a third party to do it. Magellan could easily believe it's more likely that people are trying to break Doffy out rather than kill him.
2. Magellan has always been strongly against prisoner execution. He even locked up his own jailer for it.
3. If Magellan was so distraught he was willing to take his own life but got given another chance to work, there is no way he's letting his highest profile prisoner disappear under any circumstances.
I love Magellan, but Doffy would wreck him. Pre-time skip Luffy with some wax was giving it to Magellan.
Luffy needed Gear 4 to beat Doffy and even then he needed to use it twice because once wasn’t enough.
Doffy is confirmed to use haki as well where as I don’t believe we have ever gotten confirmation Magellan can use it. He might have always just relied on his poison for all we know.

I believe that just like the admirals do, Magellan has his own sense of justice, which includes keeping his prisoners safe and the WG is willing to compromise with him on that since there's not many people in the world willing and able to be the Impel Down warden.
