I just did this tonight on my 2001 lumina base model car, I just bought it for 1,200 bucks , and just bought the part from Napa for 50 bucks and just replaced it with the help of your video and about a million cuss words later LOL thanks so much !!!!
I would recommend adding a pair of snap ring pliers to your tool list for the people watching . The video helped me see what it takes and I will get the parts to do it myself now.
Great video. I did this a couple of years ago. They recommend you wait a couple of hours after disconnecting the battery. They say there might still be enough charge for the airbag to deploy.
This video was one of the best I’ve used. Spot on, especially the advise on the AZ plate remover to deal with lock ring. I also did the job by myself so really appreciated your video detail and patience.
I am doing a similar project, thus far, on a 1995 Oldsmobile Delta 88. I am finding this video impressive in a good way, I'd imagine I will save it as I also have a 1999 Buick LeSabre to work on and this would make for good reference. Thank you. You are well spoken without alot of "glitter" and tripe. Basic, simple, good, insturction. And yes, Mr. Leichtnam, snap ring pliers. :-) I will buy some myself.
Great video, I give you credit for filming it, especially with the real world problems you ran into. Seems like a lot of work and it is much appreciated.
Thanks ever so much for the very helpful video. Couldn't agree with Joe L. more. Before you start this project go get yourself a decent "Snap Ring" pliers and as was later shown in the video (almost last resort) a "STEERING WHEEL LOCK PLATE" removal tool. Those two tools will will save countless hours of frustration and can make it an almost fun job. The toughest of the job is that "Lower Wire Snap Ring. It can be as bad or worse to get back on as it was to remove!
Nice. Snap ring pliers would keep you from destroying the snap ring. Should add that to tool list. Also the nut is not 13/16, it is actually 21mm. Great vid though. Never removed a steering wheel before and this will definitely help. Wasn't expecting to find links to parts here, and I've already ordered them.
This video was super helpful, thank you very much for making it... My husband and I are fixing the blinking light also and it's being a little pain in the butt lol. But this video came to be super helpful thanks :)🙏
Damn what an ordeal to go through, Just to fix my defective cruise control that sometimes works & sometimes doesn’t. Sometimes when it works, It disengages on its own without tapping brake or turning it off. I believe the contacts in stalk/Arm are bad. Thanks for the video though👍
thanks for sharing. My blinkers are working but the back brake lights go off randomly and then yesterday decided to stay on. IF it is that switch, very helpful, ty
Karioca Gato did you ever fix this problem? My back lights are randomly going out and if I hold the turn signal forward they work. Did you have to replace parts?
I did this steering wheel puller in my ‘98 Lumina and the bolt broke inside of the steering wheel and it won’t come off at all and we have drilled it and used ez out glue and it didn’t work either but I really need help getting the steering wheel off if anyone has any suggestions please and thank you.
is there any way it can be just that little blinker stick ? mine has the same problem except my doesnt click its just loose and when im driving it goes down by itself ????????? or would i need to replace the same thing u replaced
ive fixed it !!!! just follow the steps on this video and it will work ...and yes brake lights will go out on one side..but after replacing it will be fixed
. What happened to the Hazard button on top by the ignition ??? It was there at 19:50 It went missing at 23:49 Then it re-appeared at 25:20 and 25:39. Don't you have it put that into the switch BEFORE you screw the new switch into place?? .
2000 Camaro. How do I get to the wiring to plug it in? Am looking at a service manual and it says remove the steering column cover. HUH? Why is it you guys leave that part out?
Dude you are rough on your pieces or whoever that car belongs to. They manufacture snap ring pliers that would have made your job easier. If you would have used the correct “metric” bolt while removing the steering wheel you wouldn’t have damaged that either. I appreciate the info and it’s helped me change my signal but damn buddy, get the correct tools and slow down!!
You need to get a battery wrench ,you risk grounding out battery with the rigged up wrenchs you use for battery. Never reuse snaprings that you have destroyed getting out. Other then that you spend a lot of time with your fingers pointing and feeling things. Weird!
Had to dig out about 10 tool to find the rite one to get it all done hardest part was the last ring holding plate in deer lord takes the hulk to push that spring in said fk it putting back together wheres the stuff gonna go works fine without the bloody crap
Lmao watch video a montb ago went to take steering wheel.off like tf didni miss forgot to take the giant nut off first lmak had to go find this video again and rewatch and do it rite was like why tf is the pulled not working

I literally just did this on my 99' Lumina tonight. But not alone. I applaud your patience and determination doing it by yourself!

:-)
This helped alot for taking it apart, nothing for putting it back together & how to push it in far enough to get the clips back in.
You have a lot of patience to do that job but you stuck with it and over came those problems. Seems like the kind of problems I always have. good job
I like how the hazard switch magically reappeared in your video.
Nice. Snap ring pliers would keep you from destroying the snap ring. Should add that to tool list. Also the nut is not 13/16, it is actually 21mm. Great vid though. This video saved me a lot of money, was able to do the job by myself. Thanks.

Thanks! Fixed mine today, and everything works again!
Thank You for this Awesome video, I had all the tools laid out and had it done in a couple hours.
Damn what an ordeal to go through, Just to fix my defective cruise control that sometimes works & sometimes doesn’t. Sometimes when it works, It disengages on its own without tapping brake or turning it off. I believe the contacts in stalk/Arm are bad. Thanks for the video though👍
This video was a lifesaver, I had almost the exact same issue. Thank you man.
thanks for sharing. My blinkers are working but the back brake lights go off randomly and then yesterday decided to stay on. IF it is that switch, very helpful, ty

When putting it back together, how do you get the spring to depress far enough to put the 1st clip back in?
Thanks for the great video. I was able to change mine out in a couple of hours!

thanks man, I need to do the same work :/
It would have been much easier and less damage caused by you if you had used the right tools suck as LOCK RING PLIERS.
is there any way it can be just that little blinker stick ? mine has the same problem except my doesnt click its just loose and when im driving it goes down by itself ????????? or would i need to replace the same thing u replaced
cesar hernandez mine has the same problem. Are your brake lights going out at times too? Have you worked on it yet?
ive fixed it !!!! just follow the steps on this video and it will work ...and yes brake lights will go out on one side..but after replacing it will be fixed

.
.
The hazard button pulls off.
Pull it straight up and off before removing switch
Push it back on after installing new switch
.
Whats the diameter of the steering wheel shaft?
2000 Camaro. How do I get to the wiring to plug it in? Am looking at a service manual and it says remove the steering column cover. HUH? Why is it you guys leave that part out?
I hear Santa at 31:34.
Thank you sir!
take a shot every time you hear the word "basically" if you dont fix your lumina atleast youll have a pretty solid buzz
I got all of it off and on in like a hour but that last stupid ring got me hung up and it took and hour longer
You should have drilled and helicoiled the plate and used the press tool

if the relay was bad, the blinker would either not come on at all you stay on, not blink.
My realay is not where you say it is. I have no blinkers at all or hazzard.where eles would it be 🤔
what about the brake lights
