Many friends of mine have told me they´ve learned English through watching movies. At first they watch it with subtitles in their native language and then the second time with English subtitles. This isn´t something they always do but they end up grasping words and this helps them practice their listening skills. Also, by watching movies it provides the learner with more realistic forms of structuring sentences. Apart from this it is very entertaining for the student to watch some of their favorite actors in movies while they are practicing their listening skills. There comes a point where they may forget they are learning and just enjoy it.
I like the idea of delaying subtitles. I'm a native English speaker but I watched this because I've been learning German for a few years and I just started learning Spanish. German speakers and especially Spanish speakers talk a lot (I mean A LOT) faster than most English speakers. So I like hearing any and all language learning tips. Thanks for sharing this video! :)
This is a simple and effective strategy I've never seen anyone recommending it. That sounds much better than watching the same video twice and it is also more enjoyable. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your advices. Actually I have been watching the movies in English but with the Turkish subtitles for a long time. And then, I have started watching with English subtitles. Just like you mentioned in the video, most of English movie can be difficult to understand. After long-term practising, I have started to understand. I think its not the best technique for one reason: when you are listening and you dont understand it, you are going to read the subtitles (that will appear in 1s or 2s), and while your reading the subtitles you dont pay attention in the next scene and you don't pay attention in what they are saying and then you have to read the subtitles again, and so on So i think watching a movie twice is better.
Excellent point. However, I never claim that this is the most effective way to learn English. I came up with this technique simply because it allows me to learn English through movies without getting bored. Sure. I’ll probably get better results by watching the same movie 2 - 3 times. But I’m not going to do that. Why? Because it’s too boring. My life is not just about learning English. I have other interests and hobbies to pursue. I’m not going to spend hours each day learning English that way.

I'm little bit in disagree with you,I think you can improve your listening skills with two minutes dalayed however it will be better if you remove totally subtitles and if I understood you active your native languages subtitles in order to understand the english movie
You're right. I think the same. When you don't know many films the good idea is to watch films in 2x or 3x speed in native leanguage to know what actors speaks, or maybe read transcript and next watch in English :)

It is so nice to learn English through movies. It is difficult to understand different accent of English. Poor people can improve their English accent and understand it with better way.
If u wanna learn English ,just remove the subtitles to focus only on the English or American voice and accent , that forces you to focus only on image / intonation / and voice recognition

I love the way you recommend. Interesting and pretty useful for general English learners ... one thing I wanna ask u about How can I find Movie player that can delay subtitle ? Can you show us some of it ?
I suggest MX player, cuz have an option that u can delay subtitles if u want just by tapping somewhere in a corner. I mean, you could add there in a corner, and if u see that subtitles dont sync anymore just add + or -. In VLC, instead, you need to go to setting for doing that and it could be really bothering to pause the video when u really dont want.

So, where can I look for these movies with delayed subtitles?
Thank you, bro. I learned many things from you and really appreciate it.
Nice to meet you I am a beginner in English
I studied English words
Thank you for taking a look at my skills. Have a good time
wtf dude, i have never come up with this, you genius!
So you are not an English speaker... Well this approach only works when actors speak slowly otherwise it's gonna be messed up my approach is to read the subtitle of the sentence that I can't understand and then go back to listen again
you're absolutely right
vivianblabla q
I am agree with your idea this approach is not good for everyone may be if I want to watch the movie in this approach that he mentioned in this site I can't understand his talking and then back to listen again :
exactly
it'g gonna get real hard for movies with long conversation and fast talkers right?
😀😀😀
Lol, I understand when i listen and read but it is very difficult to speak sksksksk
Gabby E. G. Same lol
same lol
Lack of practice makes it. You have to find people to speak. I broke that barrier working in foreign company.
@@almazkairosh7976 I have not to speaking partner. What should I do? Please 🙏 reply me
@@UKamaleshR At least you can improve your listening, writing and reading. If you're quiete pretty girl you can easily find partner from the internet. However before speaking be ready to be able to speak with someone, otherwise no one wants to proceed conversation with person who doesn't understand a word and unable to say anything.
Very important video . I hope to learn English nearly

That's a great idea.. It's really helpful and practical. Thank you👍🏿
You know what?
Although I can’t understand movies without subtitles, I can understand this video by listening :D
I've been learning english for while, I'm trying hard now, only problem is that I understand more than I speak.
I'm so sorry I haven't watched this video before, this is a good tip on how to understand any movie without subtitles. I like what you said, there are many native speakers who don't understand some words or vocabulary in movies. When I saw that I was very happy because I had seen many movies and did not understand what they said. Thank you very muc.
I watched even you with subtitles :) Because I am beginner. But I will try watch withnot subtitles. Thanks for your advice.
Sorry. I forgot to mention that this technique is geared towards intermediate and advanced learners. But sure. please give it a try. (If it doesn't work for you, you can use other methods to improve your listening instead.)
EngFluent I understand you.
EngFluent why not use 3 steps? I am a beginner too and I am going to use 3 steps
1 watch with subtitles
2 watch again but now without subtitle with eyes close if necessary.
3 acumular bagagem mesmo N entendendo tudo.
When you watch 2 times a SHORT video this isn't hard, a movie maybe is boring.
Igor Oliveira aaaaaaaaAaaaaq
I love the way you recommend. Interesting and pretty useful for general English learners ... one thing I wanna ask u about How can I find Movie player that can delay subtitle ? Can you show us some of it ?
VLC can do that :)
Paisarn Tanomarom 9
Almost all video players provide subtitle syncing
I suggest MX player, cuz have an option that u can delay subtitles if u want just by tapping somewhere in a corner. I mean, you could add there in a corner, and if u see that subtitles dont sync anymore just add + or -. In VLC, instead, you need to go to setting for doing that and it could be really bothering to pause the video when u really dont want.
Guys believe me I don't know to understand and speakEnglish before 7 months. I first aw a me east video with subtitles then I continued watching English movies with subtitles and English video in UA-cam with subtitles but now I can understand natives. But to improve your speaking skills you must speak English with your friends or someone else who knows English!
Great video, great technique
And I used to watch the videos on UA-cam with subtitles, but I watch your video without it, So thank you
watch without captions and when you miss something, turn them on to catch unclear words. Then, you want to turn them off and listen that fragment over and over till you understand it completely.
But i don't know how to delay the subtitles 😞 Can you show me the way ??

Juice i think you can t find it, but try do download movies and then their subtitles
Hi. I'm learning English through too. I watch series How i met your mother and it's pretty good and fun. If you use smartphone to learn, i have an advice for you. Try app named MX Player. And download film you wanna watch, the app will find subtitle for you. Then, you can change subtitle speed. I hope that can help you. Have fun!
