Our next episode of Journeymen takes us to Nailsworth. Which is home of Forest Green Rovers who are known for being the greenest football club in the world. Solar panels, organic pitch, and vegan food can all be found here but the direction owner Dale Vince is taking the club has divided opinion from fans.

Whole wooden stadium? Let's hope Will Grigg never plays there
Your defence is terrified
An actual funny comment, well done sir.
@@bobbybright4259 appreciate it
Will Grigg's on fire, Your Terrace is terrified
Trust me he’s useless up here, if only he was on fire
Off to do a career mode with them 😆
Good luck 🤙

@NBAZak y u gotta say dat man all he did was leave a harmless comment
Facts
On what game?
Wow, what's with the barely contained hostility in the comment section?
I had no idea football fans were such ardent opponents of sustainability policies.
Nikolaj11 ever heard of a joke?
@Anthony Salerno Sure won't. What matters are conservation efforts to compensate.
@Peter Peter Okay, so what's gimmicky about this specific operation?
@Peter Peter I'll admit to not being a construction worker or ironsmith myself, but is is really that much worse to use wood? Steel needs to be forged and brickwork needs to be molded and requires it own support material, not to mention fuel useage to transport the materials. I don't if "forest green" has plentyful of green forests to supply their lumber though and with electric cars it's getting greener to transport materials :)
Thanks for the reply regardless.
it just takes one person to light a fire and their whole stadium is gone
False, its treated wood thst cant be set on fire apparently
Oh my god @Z O you just got shit on
Z O yeah, I’m sure they will make it so you can easily just set fire to the whole stadium. Are you dumb
Tell that to Portsmouth
Ben Fleming hes joking you neek
Been a FGR fan for 40 years. So proud of the club and what it has become.
🍔

What relegation back to none league
Oddly when you read the FGR club controlled forum site, their is not this groundswell of pride in the club under the current regime. Quite the contrary
Correct Fraser its a highly controlled club from the top
They have to replace the wood after 20 years because it won’t be safe
Tell that to Portsmouth
More like 3 years
Sasha Rodenacker I’m a Pompey fan and our ground isn’t wood. It’s primarily concrete and metal as it was in 1898😁
No they wouldn’t
It's really nice to see these type of videos. I hope we get more of these in the future and maybe somewhere outside England.

Seeing a lot of comments about the cutting down of trees? At no point in this video have they said they built already, a 100% wooden stadium? And also, the maths will tell that even if it’s all wooden it’ll have still been cleaner to the environment than the industrially fabricated version? Yep steelworks rob the earth of its nutrients too! Congratulations to Forest Green Rovers from A Glasgow Celtic Rebel.....
Great to see my local side on! Not really bothered about the politics involved around the club but always a good day out and usually some decent football on show!
great vid
Amazing club hope they reach the Prem.
Unfortunately they wont
rxb _ y not?
@@tobyv6087 because whenever clubs like that get good players they get sold to the big teams
H Karim if they do they will turn into the next feeder club like southampton
Too small a population too, if the entire population attended a match it'd be a quarter of some prem teams regular attendance

Been doing rtgs with them since fifa 18
Played Mansfield in this, should do one on us, last season we were 3 points off auto promotion and fired our manger, to replace him with the youth team manager who is doing terrible but is bringing youth players through, like jimmy knowles who is 18 and have had big clubs look at him
Just got them to championship in FM and each season the council keep turning down permission to expand

They cut down the trees to get the wood for the stadium
Alfie K they replant 3 for every 1 they cut

@@rbh9216 but trees take long to grow
Games Games this is a very common way of offsetting the impact of tree cutting on the environment. Read about it a bit ffs it’s really not that complicated an internet link will answer all your questions
Alfie you are a bit dim
I live in Montréal, Québec, Canada and me and my brother did a Football Trip in the U.K and FGR was the one we were the most hype for. I have to say, what a incredible club. I'm not officially Vegan, but the food at the stadium was very good, staff was so welcoming. As travelers we were welcomed in as kings and staff was super nice to help us. Greatest small club in the world, honestly. And by the way, Nailsworth/Stroud are very pretty villages to discover as well!
Thank you for sharing, Philippe! Good for you! I live in Toronto and am interested in creating the first football team that supports veganism, planet, animals, people while building community over fun football! Look forward to attending a FGR game! Blessings! :)
I like this club
Music at the start anyone?
The amount of times at lower league grounds you'll be quickly finishing up a pint and hear a goal and the crowd and ground shaking. Never gets less wounding lol

I did a road to glory with them once. Does that mean I'm climate friendly
Yeah why not
Save the planet by cutting trees down..?
Wood is dangerous fire hazard
@@seantufnell waffle
Look into the plans, they'll be giving more back to the area than they take. Not to mention they are repurposing the wood 👍
@@gnsn1469 if there is lesser tree world will get warm and the ice will melt animals have no place to stay
@@swisshswassh6908 Takes more energy to refine metals than wood, more energy = larger carbon footprint.
And as an earlier commenter stated, as they are a climate neutral club they do compensate for their resources.

Please get yourselves over to Chesterfield, would make a good video analysing their fall. Something unique as well rather than you bog-standard Forest Green Rovers or Hashtag United video (although Journeymen is a great series)
Yeah it's a shame to see what's happening at Chesterfield. I thought the new proact stadium was going to be the start of a great era for us but it seems to have been a curse.
I want to like Forest Green Rovers, but their ultras supporters group completely puts me off. I don’t believe they should be coercing rival supporters into veganism, often using physical force and abusive language to do so. If the club can find a way of removing that vocal minority I might be on board.
Hahah when has this ever happend
Robert Merrick did you miss the incident when several FG fans pinned down a Cheltenham fan and force fed him raw broccoli?

Now none league again
Everton’s already done it.
Finally fgr get some respect #wearefgr
Wooden stadium isn't very clever? Bradford had wooden stands and that's how it caught fire, can't see this idea being allowed, I wouldn't want to see that happen again, it was a terrible disaster 😢
They should work with Tesla
"Let's build a wood stadium"
"By cutting down hundreds of trees"
Stormy Apparently they planted the equivalent in new trees 🌳
Besides the other stereotypes of British football fans, add "thick". Here's what a little more googling may have found for those who found it easier to make dumb comments: Unlike many building materials (steel, for instance), wood does not deplete the earth of its natural resources. Because it’s a resource that more or less stands on its own, it can be grown and harvested over and over again. Most contractors who are using wood to build are doing it with Cross-Laminated Timber or CLT, which acts more like concrete than wood. Harvested from sustainably managed forests, CLT is prefabricated to make highly durable, long-lasting wood panels that exhibit excellent fire resistance.
Shut up Shmuel.
I'm a fgr fan up the boys

I don't understand, fgr are considered a nature friendly Football Club but wants to build a stadium full of wood? Wood comes from cutting down of trees, so does that mean saving nature?
M Shajith wood is sustainable in that if you grow a tree, cut it down it can be replaced within a matter of years, whereas many other products are taken from the environment and can’t constantly be remade.
1889 or 1899?? Look at the football in the front of the clip.
Think about it while Britain is playing football the USA is riding around on horses shooting each other wait that's still going on but with out horses it's now cars
@@matthewwheeldon668 KKK. I think they still ride around on horses 🐎
1889. I'm assuming that they couldn't find a photograph from earlier than 1899
So your telling me that cutting down a ton of trees to make a stadium out of wood is helping the planet?.......... I dont think so FGR
* in 10 years time *
“Oh I spoke to Mother Nature, she gave us ANOTHER 10 years. This time it’s serious tho”
Wont be my first choice of away games.
until flares set alight and burn the stadium
Horrible to say but after Bradford I seriously hope they have the most inflammable wood known to man ???
Wooden stadium? I’m sorry but that is not a good idea in the event of a fire
bradford found out the hard way
BillyRyan nasty
There are ways to make wooden structures less flammable
My countrys national team shirts are made from plastic bottles
No flairs then ........
Hope you never get millwall or Leeds the cup because that stadium will go up in smoke sooo fast
Yeah this didn’t go very well for Bradford City
