The Momotaro family were all born and raised in Japan!
Momotaro (father) was born on Jul 3, 2000
He came to the Kyoto City Zoo in 2010.
Genki (mother) was born on June 24, 1986.
I was born in Kyoto and came back to Kyoto.

Poor Momo. Nobody enjoys having a blood draw. I'm sure I'd like it even less if I didn't understand why the person is poking me. OUCH! It's ok Momo. Be a brave man. The doctor isn't going to hurt you. Just a little prick.
That is one Patient Gorilla. Momo is so smart & he looks at his zookeeper like, Hey, how about stop poking me & get it done. ❤Hes such a gentle giant, just beautiful. 🤗😍🤩 The zookeepers genuinely seem to love this Family. I wish they had a better facility though, more room to roam with lots of grass instead of just concrete buildings & steel enclosures everywhere. I'm sure the zookeepers would love it to be more nature too.

@@lady4vols Every time I watch momo I think of my late father and his looks, which conveyed his message quite clearly every time. Momo gives a lot of dad looks to his family.

When I watch this I see how much Momo trusts his keepers. The time you must all put in to have such a dominant animal allow you to keep doing something to him he doesn't like is to be commended. The treats aside he must feel safe with you to allow this to happen. Praise to you for such a good job you have done with these wonderful animals.

Again I love your jokes and the exact markings where things happen and I go back and forth between reading your summary and then to where it happens. I must watch each video several times and catch everything that happens. The comments and words people give to the family just has me bust out laughing everyday.

It’s pretty amazing how they get the gorillas to trust them with their body parts (arm). I know food is the incentive here but I wasn’t aware that they were that trusting of their keepers.

Wow! I can't believe he lets them take a blood draw. Puts his arm back in even though it hurt. And how does he know to go do that? Glad he gets food reward. He's great!
It’s fortunate that he is so food motivated. That would be much more difficult if he was not. But, in the long run, it reduces the number of times an animal has to be shot with a tranquilizer gun for minor things like blood tests and injections.
He is such a big strong guy but he’s so cute. He is very clean

There is an ultrasound device they use on humans that help locate a vein on people whose veins are deep or rolling.but probably not in the zoo's budget.they should have a campaign to raise funds to buy one.it would be helpful.Bet Momotaro would chip in!😉💉🦍

They give them incentives like food and treats to get them to do it. It’s easier to train them then have to anesthetize and animal to get it. It’s dangerous to put them to sleep and they avoid that at all cost. A lot of zoos are training now and these animals are so smart.

I thought the samething years ago & it was actually a Vet from a Zoo here in my home state NC that said its dangerous to put them asleep. They only do that if its an Emergency or when they have their annual exam which includes xrays, clipping their nails, heart EKG, teeth examinations, basically all of that can only be done by putting them asleep but they can train them with food for simple blood draws & giving them their booster shots etc without taking a chance of stopped breathing which happens.

He's not actually getting his blood drawn. He is being trained to keep his arm in place even after feeling the prick of the needle. It's a medical exercise that they all (except Kintaro) has to go through.
Thanks Ruth! 🥰 I suspected this was training and not actual blood draw because I watched the tube which stayed clear/.translucent throughout,
indicating no blood was being drawn they just going through a dress rehearsal so to speak showing Momo all the equipment, etc going through the whole process step by step and possibly emulating the prick or poke of needle so the animals get used to it and can safely cooperate when a blood draw is truly required. 🦍♥️

I dislike animals being tied up in zoo's. You should create a sanctuary not bars and metal for these precious animals. They depend on you and not themselves to live amongst nature. You want to capture everything and command it. That's so sad you need a better Zoo. Mor natural not so fake
You may want to watch "Gorillas unter Stress" (documentation about the situation of eastern mountain gorillas, German TV/ARTE on YT, in German, but automatic translation in English should make it sufficiently understandable) to get a grasp of the complexity/difficulty of gorilla life in "nature". The antinomy zoo vs. nature is *by far* to simplistic.
