- We are back again for another weekly vlog (pretty excited to be back). we make rescha every year around this time and this year it was my turn (along with four others) to make some. its a bit of a lengthy process but, I thoroughly enjoyed it and the outcome is a delicious comfort food that never gets old. I also went for walks and enjoyed the gorgeous warm November weather which was different since usually around that times its pretty cold already but, it'll come all in due time.

Thank you for showing me how to appreciate my chores and give my time to my microcosm of a community, my family. Your example is helping me become a better person.
You are teaching folks to live better! We need to get back to the basics! God Bless you!
In Russia, we have a dry bread as well, usually sweet. We call it " suhari" . I like it plain or with raisins and poppy seeds . We dip dry bread in tea as well The best memories about my childhood.
Oh my goodness your brother’s woodwork is amazing! It’s beautiful! I can see why you are proud of him.
You have changed my attitude towards all my work, I complete with joy. It’s never too late as I’m old enough to be your mom😂❤️
aww that sweet and it made me smile oh no never too late :)
I'm old enough to be her grandmother and she's inspirational to me.
@@paulinealger7443 me too!
She has me too.
I would be her 3rd or 4th grandma! She is very inspirational! Thank you so very much. God bless you!
I found this vlog one year later and enjoyed it very much. I agree with so many things you say and I am learning from you! You seem to be authentic, and that is always interesting. Thank you! May the Lord bless you with every good and perfect gift through His wonderful grace.
I love your vlogs. Very interesting, love learning the way things are done. Everything you cook looks so good, if I was there I would be the size of a house i think.
In South Africa, I learned to make droe beskuit or rusks, the same idea really with buttermilk, or raisins, or bran, and enjoyed them dipped in coffee. Well worth the effort ❤
My grandma use to make something similar to your dried buns, we called them toasties she used stale bread thinly slice covered one side of them with a mixture of butter and french onion soup mix and baked in a low oven till the bread was dry and crispy. It has to be one of my favourite things, unfortunately I haven't had them in years as we have lost her and I can't quite recreate them exactly the same as hers.
The rescha looked delicious and were intriguing. Here in Australia we call your "thumb print cookies" = "jam drop biscuits". Love seeing the variations on the theme! We usually just put raspberry or apricot jam in them. Thank you for giving us all an insight into your way of life. We can learn a lot from you. Your brother did a fabulous job with his wood work.
That's interesting that they are called different there are so many different types of those cookies every time I'm on pinterst I find a new one. I'm glad that he enjoys doing the wood work he is good at it. Thankyou im glad that you enjoy the videos and that you learn about our way of life. 😊
Hi Anna Marie, I see you live in Australia! It’s so interesting to hear from people all around the world. I thought you might like to know there are two communities similar to Hutterites in Australia. They are very hospitable and glad to welcome visitors, so perhaps when the pandemic is past, I thought you might like to visit them. Some of their members also make UA-cam videos. You can check it out here: www.bruderhof.com/en/where-we-are
I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets excited about a new knife
if one is always cooking a new knife once in awhile is a must and also such a game changer.
I get excited about new knives. I’ve taken knife care and techniques class at my local kitchenware store.
Timothy is quite talented. I love your vlog’s and positive attitude.
Hi Giselle, I just recently found your channel. My daughter and I really enjoy watching your videos, they are inspirational and uplifting. Greetings from Manitoba Canada
Going for a walk in the woods with your dog......always a good time. 😁
Totally understand the excitement over a nice new knife!!
Nice to see you back I look forward to these videos.
I so enjoy your vlogs. Your walks with your dog by the water and hill side. So refreshing!
Thank you so much!

Today I have decided to be a better person in life again happy and kind with love in my heart
I bought the whole set of Rada knives even the sharpener! Love them
i was born the years that catalog was produced , wow i have traveled well with time, seen so many new things . great era in time too..
Hi Giselle wow never seen the dried rasha made like this stacked. We put two small loaves in a pan then bake them. Then we let them cool and cut the loaves with our bread slicer. Then we dry and bake them. My family loves butter on them dipped in coffee. I make the rasha here for the ladies who have a baby and next time I’ll try a few this way. Never to old to learn something new and different.
I love watching your vlog. Thank you for sharing
My favourite cooking knife is a Santoku. I do all the cooking at home by the way. My wife doesn't like cooking but I love it and always have. 😊
Another entertaining and interesting vlog. Please keep them coming. 😁
The rug is lovely and I love 💜. The gray looks good withe purple. You did a 👍 job
love those knives the granny parer and tomato knives are wonderful
Glad you are back, I hope you enjoyed your time away. I love those knives, I use mine everyday. Your bread looked delicious. I would sooooo enjoy that magazine too. Wow your brother does amazing work. I loved them!!! That takes some talent. Enjoy your week. God bless
Have a good weekend and God bless you too 😊
I loved the vlog thank you.
I know I’m late to finding you but that rug is adorable! Great job!
The buns looked great before the drying out process...reminds me of hardtack.
You have the best top of line everything in your community! Impressed
and some of those machines are older then I...I'm hoping that we will have them for awhile yet they are the best.
Giselle I would LOVE!!!! You to show how you make your rugs!!! I can crochet I just knew the gess on how to start it!!!!
I love your light blue dress, it’s so pretty
That’s the only cutlery we have in our kitchen the chopping set is a must have so is the cheese nice and there flips are also the best. Always get the black handled cutlery because it’s dishwasher safe.
I didn't know that thankyou 😊
Love those buns 😀
I have several knives from that company and love them . I have a 🍅 knife and it is wonderful .your buns....rolls as we call them in the states...look so good.
@15:09 in yarn world when we have to take out work due to “mistakes” it’s called “Frogging it” 🐸
Why? Riiiiiiipit! RiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipIT! 🐸
😉
I suppose you don’t count and follow a specific pattern for these rugs but might help to not have to go back so many times and riiiipit
Thank you so much for your recommendation of the RADA brand stubby butcher knife. I ordered one for myself as a treat and it did not disappoint. RAZOR sharp and so light and easy to use with produce and meats. THANK YOU! I think of you each time I use mine.
Im glad you like it....they are the only brand that we use in our cookweeks and are just the best thing 😊
@@gisellewaldner9406 I agree! I let the seller know you recommended.
The rug you made is gorgeous
Pretty interesting i liked it ..beautiful job putting the video together.. awesome stuff
Thankyou 😊
P S love your videos they make myself a better person thank you
a good kitchen knife I am excited for you I have a pretty good selection myself , it is very challenging working with tools ( that are not fit for the job ) .. Joe
Your brother is very talented as are you xx
I bought my red wooden clogs that year lol from Eatons catalog
A good, balanced chef's knife is always good to have. Makes chopping and slicing 10 times easier. If you learn how to keep them sharp, they are a good investment.
I love that ypu get excited about a knife!! I get excited about them too! I have 2 favorite knives in my kitchen, they are identical, super duper Sharpe, serrated thin, like fillet knives, but I use them for absolutely everything!!! If I had your address I would send you one, so you would understand why I love them!!! 💘
Love your vlogs, thank you for sharing with us!!
I have had to work with some pretty bad knifes so a new unused one is just the best thing ever. you are welcome I'm happy to hear that you enjoy them.
Hi! I am from South Africa and I watch your videos regularly. Kind regards. Attie Barnard.
Your bread reminds me of zwieback toast. They were a kind of teething biscuit. I gave them to my babies but I also ate them.
That interesting never heard of it before.😊
I also had to think of Zwieback. It has a long tradition in german culture, so there could be a connection. Zwieback is a german term and translates to "double baked" (zwie is an old word for zwei- two, back means baked).
Best wishes from Germany! :)
Bolletje or what my family call Dutch bread sounds and looks similar. But is possibly sweeter than what you make. It is very tasty dunked in tea as you say.
You got a good life 👍 god bless you
Thankyou God bless you too 😊
Love your videos.
Glad you like them!
very interesting god bless you.
I'm Mennonite and we do black coffee with resha and then add cream and sugar or syrup on top. Some people also do salt instead of the sugar
It's eaten in a plate tho not dipped
You are very talented!
Thankyou 😊
I love my Rada knives, I get them from the Amish store.
I love a good knife
I really love using my RADA knives.
In South Africa We call them rusks; delicious
The dried bread is like biscotti!
I wonder what the dried buns would taste like with cream cheese and strawberry jam spread on top.... Toast maybe?
I love the music that you used through out your video
🥰🥰
👍🙃🙏🏻
I'd like your zwieback/Rasha. Must taste sure very good. Would you brother allow watching how he formed and glued the pieces of wood together and then how he lathed it (what holding tool on the lathe he used)? A suggestion as a topic for some of your vlog.
that's a beautiful suggestion I'm sure he wouldn't mind as long as I don't include his face thanks for the idea.
GBYOU....!!!...VERY COOL. ...!!! ENJOYING very much ... watching your videos...!!
Thankyou im glad you enjoy them 😊
@@gisellewaldner9406 I like to visit such a place ...!!!...
I think you would enjoy it..its beautiful...hopefully one day you will be able to 😊
Nice carpet, and yes, these are these jobs that need practice.
Hello from England! Your such a lovely lady and you have inspired me so so much! Could you tell me how you make your rugs? How many chain is it to start?
It is very kind of you to bake gluten free for those who cannot tolerate it. I love your brother’s wood projects. He is very talented. Do all of your brothers live in your parent’s home with you? Are any married? I am sorry to comment on older Vlogs but I just discovered your channel recently and I really enjoy what you are doing. I love the Bible quotes at the end.
welcome, welcome to the channel oh no worries about where you post the comments I'm just glad you enjoy then videos...we all still live with our parents they are all younger then I am (I'm 23) and in no rush to get married.
I can’t believe you single stitched that entire rug. Once I learned to double stitch I haven’t single stitched much of anything
I absolutely love watching your videos, especially the cooking and baking! Can i ask- who gets to make the menu? Is it done month to month? Fascinating to me. Thank you for sharing ❤️
you are so welcome I'm glad you enjoy them...as for the menu whoever is cooking plans the menu :)
In North Germany we call the rescha Zwieback, and wie break them into little pieces do some sugar on it and eat it with milk
We call our weekly Friday buns like that 😊
❤️🌹
Can you give us the Rescha recipe. Sounds really good for with tea or coffee.
Rescha (English: rusk) are similar to Mennonite zwieback (zwie=twice, back=baked) though I think Mennonites also eat them fresh (not dried). The stacked form is the same. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Mennonite_zwieback
Italian biscotti (twice-cooked) are also a variation on this theme.
Oh wow this is interesting I know that not everyone makes them the way that we do but, this is cool 😊
Bei uns in Deutschland heißen sie ebenfalls immer noch ZWIEBACK
Have you always made your resha like that? We make loaves, slice them, spread them out to dry than put into oven to dry .
Yes we have always made them that way 😊
the poor tree Im a Arborist so i feel for the tree ..
Beautiful rug! I love those colours. Did you ever get it finished? What kind of yarn do you use? I know you were doing sc or single crochets. Do you remember what length of chain you started with? Those buns look so good!!
amazing wood turning .. thanks for sharing and please let him know about my compliment .. Joe
Yes! Absolutely beautiful!
With your DRY BREAD you can make CAPIROTADA (Mexican Bread Pudding)..
I was 7 years old in 1969!
I was 19!
I would only touch the catalogue with clean white cotton gloves. People would be interested in purchasing it for their collections.
I didn't know that it was that special I guess I don't really know much about old stuff even though I'm trying to educate myself on the matter.
@@gisellewaldner9406 I was a librarian for 17 years and I learned this because of my job. As clean as all of you are, I wouldn't worry about it. I was thrilled to see it. Love all your vlogs!
The rescha (German - röscha or knusprige) remind me to Zwieback 🤔
Yes its similar just bigger, cut and dried until completely hard
Would you mind sharing your gluten free recipes? You make it look easy 😊
I just joined the “Holy Casseroles” committee at my church, and there is often a need for gluten-free, so I’m planning on doing as many as I can. The thing that will be hard is dairy free - what’s a casserole without cheese?
Sure I can share 😊 a casserole without cheese I'm interested I'll try and find one that's actually good.
Good blog and video. Always lots of work too be done . Question do you have elderly around I mean like grandparents ? And do they have a nurcing home for elderly?
no, no nursing home. my grandparents are still up and running, are still at community work because they want to. but, if someone is that sick they get taken care of in their homes, if its needed we add special beds and everything that makes it easier for them.
I was surprised to see a gym. That's awesome!! Are there certain times for women and other times for men? I have been binge watching your videos this week!! I love that you are able to share your life. Another random question: I was looking at another video (Easter 2021) and you mentioned you weren't baptized, when you do get baptized will you have to stop UA-cam? I hope not!! 😊❤
there are not many colonies that have a gym we are grateful to have one. no there is no specific time you can go when you want to but, most times when females go we try to go when we know there is no-one there...we are more comfortable with that. as for baptized I don't know I'll have to see when I get to that point. :) I glad that you enjoy seeing how we do things.
@@gisellewaldner9406 lol, thank you ❤
Are the rescha made for, or close to a holiday? (You're wearing light blue?☺️😊)
Is the braided rag rug from material, rags,or yarn you buy?
If you like filled cookies have you ever made hamontash? Just curious 🙂.
Love ' you're picking out eggshell. I thought you put it in on purpose 🤣 at first, reminded me of a kids movie where the puppet dumped the whole eggs in saying "I like my matzah balls crunchy".
every 11 weeks! wow you’re so lucky! 💕 here we only have 4 cook weeks and i cook 3 of them with my aunt and mom! and i’m only 17 😅
we have 31 cook weeks we have 2 ..
Oh wow so you are almost always cooking. Its amazing how the number of cook weeks vary and I'm also blowen away that some even have 31 like wow.
@@gisellewaldner9406 yes! always cooking!! lol and it is very amazing how they differ in every colony!!
What is the purpose of the dried bread-why stack them if you take them apart- are you making Curtons? Is it Communion bread? Why make it once a year? You talked about making, but why? What is it for? ----I wrote this before i finished the video--It is like Biscotti!
What type of wool did you use on the rug?
I'm very curious...how do you eat the dried buns? We make that too and put jam and coffee and cream on top
dipped in tea, hot chocolate, milk or just eaten plain.
Giselle, what editing software do you use when making videos?
You have very smooth editing techniques. Self taught or did you take classes?
I learned at the local cable access station.
I use this random free editing software that I found online (can't quite remember the name). I am self taught although I take inspiration by watching other peoples videos. well that's interesting what is a cable access station?
💙💙 Pretty Blue Dress..
Please, please, please can you tell me what the music track is when you’re repotting the ivy. I hear it often & it gets stuck in my head. …
Oh yes, and another beautiful (& so inspiring) video. Thank you.
I have to go back and check....😊
Ohhh that's a tough one I'll try and find it and let you know but, I have stopped those specific tracks 😊😊
Thank you Giselle. I found it … “Morning Mandolin” by Chris Haagen. Something very authentic and special about his music … & your channel. X
When you make anything gluten free, do you always use almond flour?
No there are a ton of different kinds out there although I love the taste that almond flour gives the texture in baked goods is grainy. I use oat flour quite frequently too.
I would like to know the pattern you use when you crochet your rugs. Thank you.
I'm working on a video theres quite a process and things you need to know.
What is your all time favorite house plant
You work so hard. When do you get to have fun. Or is your whole life spent working?
no I just mostly show my work...working on making a video showing what we do for fun or rather when we don't have work during the summer months most times our work is only half days and the rest is our time.
I don’t understand the idea behind the dried buns. Why do you dry them? How do you eat them? If only made once a year, what is the significance behind them? 🥰🥰
they are dried until they are hard because we eat them dipped into tea, hot chocolate, milk or anything you wish. its only once a year as we have over 100 people, everybody gets a equal share. they are also quite a bit of work which is why its only once a year. I hope that answers your question. :)
@gisellewalter where do we purchase your brothers items and quick question why do u tie your dresses up on bottom and can you all pick a different pattern together
Also what do you do with those?
