Refreshing and naturally carbonated, fermented ginger beer is a delicious addition to mixed drinks like the Moscow Mule or Dark n' Stormy. It is also flavorful enough to enjoy on its own.

Is there not a very good chance that the jar will explode if you seal it with an airtight lid?

It is possible if you aren't using a high-quality glass. I've been making this and kombucha for years without issues. The glass bottles from IKEA are very good. I try to "burp" the bottles while they build up gas and then place in the fridge to slow the fermenting process.
If you're concerned about it, though, I recommend using a plastic bottle. I generally avoid plastic with ferments because plastic leaching into them concerns me more.

I should add that you need the airtight lid to build up the gas in the first place. If you don't use one, it won't get fizzy!

@@Thethingswellmake Thanks for the reply. I know from brewing beer that if you did that you would be picking up pieces of class for the next year! 😂 So just wanted to make sure. I guess that kombucha doesn't give off as much Co2

@@briancassidy104 I taught a friend to make ginger beer and he was using cheaper glass bottles and one did break. I told him to switch to the IKEA ones and he hasn't had issues since. So, yes, it can happen, but a lot of factors are involved. 😏

Is there something else you can use as a starter for your first batch that's healthier than packaged yeast?
Thanks! I just discovered your channel - very nice! ☺️

You don't need to use the yeast- you can make your own ginger bug to start it! Or just make it without either and it will take a bit longer.

Do you know with method 1 or the finer beer recipe which is strained and has yeast added do you know how much sugar remains after they ferment? I’m on a low carb diet and heard it wasn’t very high in sugars.thanks for your lovely simple videos. You really should add tags or something or play a click farm to click on your videos so more people see them.

      Hi Aidan,
I'm not really sure and wish I knew an effective way to test for that and know. I see a lot of conflicting information about how much sugar is left in ferments like this and kombucha. It probably depends a lot on a number of factors, too. (Like temperature, how long it's left to ferment, etc.) I try to stay low carb, too- and I tend to drink this mixed with a bit of soda water to further reduce the amount of sugar I might be consuming. I like it like that. 😊

@@Thethingswellmake Thanks. Doesn't matter that you don't know. When I say I'm low carb I virtually eat carnivore as the lowest inflammatory and lowest cab diet I can. When I ever cheat it's with keto bread or desserts. Had liver failiure 4 months ago after vaccine and since then feel 4000 times fitter and younger from the diet. Tell all the roundy can't lose weight men in your friednship circle carnivore is the bomb for youth regained. I say that cos men love meat. Some gals too I guess. Heals all kinda things. I will take some Kefir and half a shop bought kombucha cos they have the same sugar in as a pop sometimes 😡 now this has to be better. Perhaps I can find out from a keto UA-camr who was diabetic. I truly appreciate your videos and learning how to go back to old ways. Gonna make apple cider vinegar and am making kombucha. I can risk a few carbs especially at the end of a day. God bless you

@@aidanpoulter9514 Wonderful! We eat very carefully during the week and take much less care on the weekend! (Even then, though, we generally eat fish or meat with veggies and some red wine. No alcohol during the week.)
It works pretty well for us. Both my husband and I were heavier a few years back, but I do have to admit that I lost my mojo and regained a lot of weight during our lockdowns here. (I was used to hiking and running outside daily and we weren't allowed out of our houses to even walk outside here in Spain.)
I'm starting to get back in the swing of things and getting healthier again.
I think this works well as an alternative to other beverages. I mostly drink water, green tea, and infusions during the day and have a little bit of this at night with dinner. Dinner is our main meal because it's the only one where we can be together as a family. (Otherwise we'd probably choose lunchtime.) 😏
Thank you, though. I'm happy to have you follow me on my adventures- and really glad you're feeling better.

I should add- we used to always have kombucha, but lately have this more often because we both love ginger so much. 😊😜
In both cases, though, we often mix it with soda water.
