Devo pulled off what seemed like the impossible w/ this video!!! Still can't believe they got this video on the air!! It would be challenging even today....just goes to show how ahead of the game these guys were!!! Put them in the Hall of Fame already!!!!
These guys were parodying the excesses of the 80's ..... just as it was happening. Too bad nobody listened as most wrote them off as a quirky, new-wave band. They were MUCH more than that but their irony, cynicism and satire fell on mostly deaf ears as the 80's moved forward. They were more like geeky, punk rock mixed with synths, creating what you could say was the first "cyber-punk" band. They were too far ahead for the time and much of their stuff is still relevant in today's world.
I saw DEVO on this tour. Early on in the run they'd had some trouble with getting the performance and the films sorted out but by the time I saw them it everything went off like it was supposed to and it was *unknown to audiences of the day* to have live performers on stage interacting with a visual in real time. It was the first time most audiences ever saw stage lights move and zoom by remote/computer control. They were really cutting edge, and they stayed on brand and on message from the mid-1970s to the present day. I'm really impressed with their ethic - and the most recent studio album, SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY, was one of the best they ever did.
Rightous !! Thank you for posting...used to cruise it in my 73 Gremlin....rock'n to Devo. Drive a different car....listen to different (but GREAT) music. Screw conformity.....after a point.
Devo was so much more than the one hit wonder label people have slapped on them. Guess that's the curse of Mtv. I can hear so much influence from their music in other artists. Ah, the '80's were great.
Totally agree. They had quite a number of hits, if I'm remembering correctly. And they were definitely one of the more influential 80s bands. Yup -- 80s music was amazing. Absolutely amazing.
South Park fans notice some similarities ? "We are all, you and me, we are all, Living in the future, We can't get stuff, cause Boats are late and nobody's working in the future. They don't sell Tostadas anymore at Tacobell"
I think that being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame would be against everything they were trying to musically and philosophically. Getting BANISHED, now that would be Devo.
Devo was NOT a one hit wonder. The radio station bore me because they play the same tired music because they think it's what we want wrong. Devon great example. Many great interesting tracks. That why somebody named Don Henley doesn't listen to radio. I myself listen to 2 sometimes 4 hr music shows to hear tracks not heard on radio.
I think Madonna should have ditched 'Like a Virgin', 'Holday' etc. and got with these guys and sung this song, in a sexy way, but still with the nerdy back beat and band. I'm sure her agent knew she wanted it too.
36 years later and this song is still a good thing. 32 years later and watching Thrashin’ still brings back good memories. Almost 4 decades later and Devo still rules. And it’s true that’s good.
I saw DEVO twice. The first time was on a lark. The second was sheer madness. They were unreal. I saw them play That's Good with the giant screen. The audience was so mesmerized, there was a delay before cheering after every song. DEVO ended every piece like a stopwatch, with each instrument halting on the count. It was like the songs played themselves out and were yanked out of audibility. I have never seen or heard the like of these red hat geeks. That's Good.
I think the moral of this video is not to use French fries to poke your doughnut because they will eventually snap - an important life lesson and that's good.
The irony of this song is that it actually became a huge hit in dance clubs, frequented by perhaps the very kinds of people this song was targeting and satirizing.

Dude it's 2020 and they are STILL not IN! They get nominated but never chosen #criminalisright #2020devolutionisreal
ARRRRRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!! Injustice!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a farce. Who are they to decide what artists are legendary? Devo is legendary.
Not being in the r and r h o f = HUGE CREDIBILITY! 😁
The R&RHOF is a joke anyway, so many great bands not included and even more undeserving bands included. 🤢 🤮
Put these brilliant musician's in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME NOW. DEVO Rocks
Such a great song, timeless and way ahead of it's time when released
Devo is such awesome punk rock
I hate it when my french fry breaks in half when I'm sticking it into a donut.

I love B52S and many other huge bands , but Devo its a unbelievable creation
47 and still in love with this glorious band
Devo, genious of techno pop.
Saw them perform this live tonight, it rocked!
Just seen these guys Dec 1st 2023 Melbourne Australia for their farewell tour 💪🏼🔥
Same but in London, UK. A band I genuinely thought I'd never get to see, and I did! (well, most of them 😢)
It's a good thing!
These guys remind me a lot of NZ band Split Enz.
The little interlude at 2:20 is fkn awesome.
And they took out the buildup in this version!
This is good.
Rock n roll is not a style of music, it's an attitude
bons tempos e boas musicas
"The Curiosity of Chance" by Russell P. Marleau (2006) brought me here!
AMAZING SONG ......
Just great! ;-)
The only synth band I could really stand

In this song, the LinnDrum was heard.
This song is being used in 2018 by a Brazilian bank? Devo did commercials for Honda scooters back in the 80s, so why not?
South Park fans notice some similarities ?
"We are all, you and me, we are all, Living in the future,
We can't get stuff, cause Boats are late and nobody's working in the future.

Back then, looking weird meant you were at the top, today they just think you look weird...
That's Good :-D
Já dancei muito ano de 85
I think that being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame would be against everything they were trying to musically and philosophically.

She probably would have had a better chance than Johnny Rotten.
He had close to the right mindset. It's just that he couldn't be subtle or "pop" enough for their aesthetic.
I guess the closest we'll get to that is Nicole Stoehr
Oh please. They'd do better if it was Gary Newman or the Cars.
that's enough, thanks
This tune is beyond the shit

DEVO for president in 2024.
I like metal, but you have to admit Devo were wicked and that's good thing
If you like metal. If you like metal, then you like music. If you like music, you like devo. If you like devo, are you not a god among men?
They're one of those bands that is massively underrated in spite of massive success. For my money they're one of the greatest of all time
The Devo fan/metal fan connection is real! Inexplicable, but real.
It's a monumental good thing.
@Larry Fine My regards to Moe, Curly, and Shemp.
36 years later and this song is still a good thing.

it's a monumental good thing.
I think the moral of this video is not to use French fries to poke your doughnut because they will eventually snap - an important life lesson and that's good.
then you have to rub cream on your French fry for the rest of your life
what no ketchup??
No. It's a monumental good thing.
That happened to me. I still hear the sound of that french fry snapping in my nightmares
Thanks WAPTEK great story. Really pales to what we see on the internet today.
Tom Delonge brought me here. 😅
Girls really hate it when your fry breaks.
+AnAngryStorm Excellent.

DEVO ROCKS!
The "Spudboys" from Akron, OH.
Got caught skipping school for a DEVO concert in Cleveland...
Devo has been a huge influence on my music. The 80's really has the best stuff!
agree
Devo, Frank Zappa, Animal Collective, Joy Division, The Stooges, The Smiths, Death Grips, and Beck have all been monumental influences for myself.
THE SMITHS ARE AMAZING
Definitely a good thing!😃😃😃
@@blackbannanas Hey, that's pretty much my taste (except Beck).

Otimo!

Bittersweet watching stuff like this. I love it but wish to christ I was back in the 80s.
There was an innocence that cannot be replicated. Today's youth have no idea what it's like to be free.

Which is a shame because MTV sucks.

Rarely do I see credit given to the innovative drumming. Itreally is something so different to what groups usually do.

The collars on their shirts remind me of toilet seats.

Not only did I love Devo growing up (still do), but my mum actually liked them, too. Sort of mind-blowing.
