Just to clarify, I DO recommend people watch Saint Tail! It's a really cute and charming anime. I personally was not impressed with the logic for the reveal (or secret identity in general) but if you can ignore that, Saint Tail is a sweet and fun story. And again, I like that 90s anime aesthetic x3
@@grekoy huh! Yeah I guess it has some similarities. Though DNAngel has actual magic and a tad more complex storyline. But yes, definite similarities x3
@@TheArtisticAloubell I want to tell about another thief anime but I forgot the title. It involves a gymnastic girl who lived alone in an apartment while her parents are overseas, her friend is a small green angel, she is a brunette high school girl at day and blonde thief at night whom steals items containing demons, and her blue hair love interest is the antagonist but later reveal to be a good guy. There's this theme of protagonist's inner conflict of being alone, not realizing that she is never alone. Also her best friend is a cop and have the goal to capture the thief not knowing her friend is the thief. Plus the best friend's Dad is a cop. EDIT: Found the anime title. It is called Kamikaze kaito Jeanne.
@@grekoy ah yes I have heard of that anime. It's one I've always wanted to get to but never found the right time. Hopefully one day I will get to watch it! It's fascinating how many of these Phantom Thief anime/manga there are!
In the defense of the show, I used to wear my hair up in a ponytail all the time at my original job. Well, one day, I forget the reason why (his happened over a decade ago) I wore my hair down. No one, and I mean, NO ONE, recognized me until I started talking to them, and even then it took a good few minutes of explanation for them to believe that I was me. So, stuff like this can happen. It sounds stupid and utterly ridiculous, but I've been there.
This was once happened to me when i wore a hijab with another color. Fyi:I was leaning my head so that no one entering the classroom could see it. (Btw:Apologies if i did mistake)
This reminds me of my first few days of college, I had curly haired classmate and a week or so into classes she comes with her hair straightened and I kid you not I was struggling to recognize if she was the same person 😩
A similar thing happened to my sister. My sister has long bangs and one day she decided to tie them up. We went to meet up with our friend and he was like "Who are you". I legid thought he was joking but no,he couldn't tell it was my sister because she didn't have her bangs
I actually haven’t seen the show before But the reveal was hilariously stupid, and the fact it was supposed to be taken seriously was even more ridiculous as Gabriel finding out Adrien’s super hero identity because he said My lady over the phone in the 100th episode called ephemeral in miraculous ladybug 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And btw good video 👍😁
Oh yes. It's the same energy as Gabriel making the connection with "M'lady" lol Saint Tail is a better show than MLB imo, but the reveal just wasn't it X'D
One reveal I find pretty funny in a magical anime is when the main character of doki doki precure just yells her name in front of news cameras during the climax for the whole city to see
Okay but , this is actually a cool concept! I wanna watch this anime now! As for the non-mask thing and identity, it’s actually pretty believable that most people won’t find out who the hero is, this is because how a person perceives someone depending on how said character presents themselves. It’s like whenever you have a online life and a irl one. Very rarely do people find out someone is two sides of the same coin (especially kids) so yeah I don’t think it’s completely far fetched. ^^’
I hate how the creators excuse the dumbness by ' quatum masking' or 'magic'. I would just say, take examples from some shows like 'pretty cure' and 'sunshine girls'. In it, the girls get different hair colour, different eye colours (in pretty cure). In sunshine girls, the girls get grown up and look completely different from what they look as teens. It makes sense, but some are like ' Lol magic'. Also I prefer power rangers having a whole suit so that they can protect their body and also hide their identity. My girl, saint tale, was just like 'bow swap'.
this reminds me of PriPara, which is more an idol anime than a magical girl, but it makes way more sense that people can't recognise some of the characters (like Lala, who's grown up in her idol form, and Mireille, who goes from serious brunette to brightly coloured energetic blonde) but can recognise others, because some of them change their appearance and others don't.
The idea that magic makes it impossible for people to see through their non-disguises is good for these shows, provided they actually behave like that's the case - as in Sailor Moon, nobody can tell them apart because of the "Sailor Moon mask". But when it comes to shows like Miraculous, where it's never stated their identities can't be found because of magic and the characters act like they have to avoid putting on clothes that make them look like themselves transformed, then the show immediately starts throwing curveballs where it makes no sense for their identities to not have been found out by people surrounding them, THAT is when this trope makes no sense! Also, what's the point of magic hiding their identities to the point of changing their appearances if AIDA MANA IS JUST GONNA DOXX HERSELF AND HER FRIENDS LIKE THAT!?
Yes precure have different hair colors, eyes color, hair style, outfit but someone still saw the similarities. But in sailor moon, even with the same hair and eyes, nearly the same outfit, no one recognizes who the sailor soldiers are. In the manga, sailor moon recognized her future husband but didn’t recognize her future self! (Don’t misunderstand me, I love Sailor Moon very much, especially the manga)
@@TheArtisticAloubell Saint Tail have the EXACT SAME appearance as Meimi is an IMPORTANT plot point in the MANGA, as it show to you that her body was NOT altered by magic, thus it make it UNSETLING when Meimi start to act like a completely different person when in Saint Tail custom (like during the idol caper), thus give the reader a HUGE clue that she is suffering through some really serious mental problem (in this case emotional repression).
I seriously cannot critique this anime, though they are many flaws with the show. It was my second anime, after sailor Moon, and I fell in love hard. I found it by accident in my local library and my sister and I binged watched it. Even now, the reveal was ridiculous but to my child-like mind, at the time, it was the most amazing thing.
I never watched this anime as a kid but... the reveal was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous! My eyes went wide when you said the spoiler that she is Saint Tail. I'm just like, well they literally look alike without having a mask so how can you not realize that?! Anyway, speaking of magical girls what is your favorite series? Mine is Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon (because I literally grew up watching that anime in the early 2000s)
Lol Saint Tail is a super cute and charming show. I just wish the reveal was done better x''''3 My favorite magical girl show...hmm...probably Shugo Chara x3
@@TheArtisticAloubell Saint Tail is on my list for a long time but I never got a chance to watch it. Shugo Chara is a great anime in the 2000s. But now I don't hear anyone mention this anymore.
@@SuperShana97 you should totally watch Saint Tail when you get the chance x3 And yeah! It's super sad that Shugo Chara isn't talked about. Hopefully people will start watching it again (or maybe it can get a reboot to animate the entire manga! That would be great too x3)
Personally, I have this issue with the reboot Ducktales. I seen the older showing of Ducktales when they introduced Gizmoduck aka Fenton Crackshell and only two people (Scrooge and his mother) only knew his identity. Those bonds were sweet and were shown as signs of trust and good friendship. In the reboot, where they did change Fenton to a Latino (not a bad change; it was very interesting) and when he became Gizmoduck, suddenly the closest characters, especially in the Duck family, knew him (Dewy, Launchpad, Gyro, Scrooge, Huey, etc., he literally has a notebook page of all who know). Wasn't sure what the writers were going for, whether they made Fenton relatable in finding it hard to hide a superhero identity or that the Duck family is so important, they had to know Fenton was Gizmoduck, but either way, I found it sad. The point of there being a secret identity is it is a SECRET, no matter how important the characters are. Scrooge and his mother sure they can know, but why everyone else.
I haven't watched too many magical girl/boy anime aside from Sailor Moon (still need to finish the new dub), but it always makes me laugh with how little the characters conceal their identities (other than Tuxedo Mask) and yet no one, be it civilian/villain/other heroes, can recognize any of the Sailor Scouts XD Usagi with no tiara/jewel buns: Oh look it's Usagi! Usagi with tiara and jewel buns: HUH?!? Where'd Usagi go?!
To be fair, I think Sailor Moon has an explanation for why the senshi aren't recognized. Apparently their transformation makes them look more alien to others. They look like themselves to us, but to other people they look otherworldly so it's not as simple as putting on new clothes. Having said that, for all the magical girl shows that provide no justification for people not recognizing them, I shake my head lol I think Saint Tail is a good show. The reveal, however, wasn't done well X'D
@@TheArtisticAloubell fair point! And it's not like too many civilians are ever in situations where they are right next to any of the senshi during monster attacks, so it's understandable that they are just too stunned (at least the ones not affected by monsters) by the appearance of heroines with super powers to be like "dont they look a little familiar?" Think one of the few exceptions was that guy who had a crush on Ami (during the rainbow crystal arc), recognizing her as Sailor Mercury when she took him to safety. But it's been a while since I've seen that so I can't accurately say if he *actually* recognized her.
@@tjeevee9494 I think I vaguely remember that guy who liked Ami. I think the question then is if that was a non-canon filler episode or not. If it's filler, then whatever. But if it's canon, then the lore has some explaining to do lol
I recommend Precure. The characters actually put in the effort to keep their identities a secret, sometimes even the existence of Cures in the first place. I some iterations, the reveal of their identities is a big step in their growth as well. Except for DokiDoki Precure. Aida Mana/Cure Heart just doxxes herself for no reason whatsoever!
Saint Tail is otherwise a good show. The reveal just wasn't done well DX I'll give it credit though for being so memorable that it stayed in my head for like 13 years lol
@@TheArtisticAloubell the MANGA is great, and the ANIME has its own charm, but the ANIME had a lot of questionable decisions that make the story of it very contradictory, so I have to disagree though.
IRL I typically have hair to my sholders so when I cut it to being like 3cm long it typically takes people 3 seconds to realize its me when they see me with short hair for the first time but none ever fail to recognise me because its faces that people recognise not clothing or hair.
By the way, in the original manga, the whole "no one know about Meimi's true identity" is told through MEIMI's own perspective in order to give the readers the clue that Meimi is DELUSIONAL and need help with regard to her mental health before she completely destroy herself by mistaking those delusion as reality. If you notice, the whole "Asuka jr will hate me if I lie to him" thing doesn't even happened is one of those that is still in the ANIME, and it is the artifact of that Meimi's delusion subplot.
To be fair, I usually wear my hair up and use glasses, but once I let down my hair because my ponytail came loose and took off my glasses so my hair wouldn't get caught in the frames while putting it up and my best friend walked past me and didn't recognise me when I called out to her, it literally took me telling her and putting my glasses back on for her to realise😂
The final comment before I stop comment about this (excuse me for wasting your time): It seem that wikipedia have finally update their Saint Tail page, including the "Plot" part to more accurately represent the plot of the Kaitou Saint Tail manga, including the part about Meimi's emotional isolation that is the main reason behind her delusion. If you want source for something about the original manga, now you have wikipedia too. Nice I guess.
I loved Saint Tail. It was too cute. I see her as a female Kaito kid in Detective Conan. My reason is that Saint tail only travels out at night, so it’s too dark to catch any specific details of her. Was I reaching too far?
That also reminded me a lot from an old cartoon I used to watch called “word girl” when a similar thing like that happened.just like saint tail, the main protagonist Becky didn’t do anything to hide her identity by just putting on a helmet that barely hides her hair and call it a day,her face and hair are still exposed and yet nobody managed to recognize her and she didn’t even had magic to conceal her identity so that just makes it even worse. And when she removes her helmet to her best friend, her friend then recognized her as Becky which is just plain stupid,so that literately gave me Deja vu
I remember this show and liking it as well. Yay But in more serious note, if I remember correctly Aska Jr does come close to figuring it out only for the girl to pull a fast one by making it appear as if the theif is actually a drag queen pulling of the heists. That kind of changes the suspect pool a little.
It's a super cute show! The reveal is just lackluster imo. The feelings in the reveal scene are real though. So maybe it'll be okay for you! The show is only partially dubbed. The rest is subbed. I do recommend it!
I watch the series thanks for your exposure but I don't think it's because of the ponytail. Each time when she's out stealing things she's always go in when the place is dark so they can't see her face and make sure her face isn't seen. One you're right about is about the series being good, in fact it's really good at least for my taste. So thanks!
Huh. I thought I remembered a few times were Asuka did see her (even if briefly) but didn't recognize her. Nevertheless, the reveal was still kind of goofy because he legit did not recognize her until her ponytail came loose XD In any case, I'm glad you enjoyed Saint Tail! ^_^
@@TheArtisticAloubell I'll continue watching it till the reveal. I still have half of the show unfinished and whether the reveal is ridiculous or not it doesn't matter if it's enjoyable. So thanks again.
@@TheArtisticAloubell You are absolutely right about that. Asuka jr KNOW Saint Tail's true identity, but that was only portrayed well in the MANGA. The ANIME add way too many fillers that contradict the manga plot AND alter a lot of key scenes, making that "reveal" make no sense. In the original Kaitou Saint Tail manga, Asuka jr is devastated in that moment not because of Saint Tail identity (in the manga, it is implied that he confess his love to Meimi PRECISELY because he want her to open up to him about her secret identity so he can help her with her identity crisis and to relive her pent-up feeling, as those thing require the level of intimacy between lovers), but rather because he was forced to watch as Maju harm his lover right in front of his eyes, and then all the painful question of why was Meimi hide the truth from him is still not answered, now Rosemary basically will keep him captive, which mean he can not even have a chance to ask Meimi about that now, and the promise - which to him is basically a declaration of protection for her at this point - is also broken too. ( I mean, if someone torture my lover right in front of me and force me to watch AND hold me captive, which mean that I have no chance to help, I would sink into despair too).
I just want to say as a saint tail fan that I personally think the hair thing is symbolic, the the thief Saint tail never sticks around long enough to show her face, as it's all overpowered by the spectacle of her stage magic. Yes her hair comes undone at the reveal, but her face is also shown for the first time to Asuka, something she is said repeatedly in the show could give her away. Why she never wore a mask I don't know. if that was the plot hole I would have been fine with it. Sorry it's just that that reveal was a punch in the gut for me.
Some scenes in the anime made it unclear as to whether or not Asuka Jr could see her face or not, so it was a bit ambiguous to me >___< Either way, its still a bit silly haha
@@TheArtisticAloubell Maybe he was just faceblind? I doubt it was intended for him to be faceblind, but I know as someone who is mildly or moderately faceblind that Saint Tail would probably be able to fool me with just a different outfit, hairstyle, and setting. Just a different setting can keep me from recognising someone
@@TheArtisticAloubell In the MANGA, he is able to recognize her face all the way back in chapter 13 (at the Princess Rosa's mirror) and confirm it at the end of chapter 19 (swan sculpture caper). The ANIME add WAY too many filler that that part is very hard to notice, as well as the filler contradict the plot point of that moment too (he recognize who she is, but feel like Meimi in Saint Tail form is almost INHUMAN i.e she is so emotionally repressed to the point that she is emotionally unrecognizable).
Ah yeah, I forget to tell you this: TV tropes wiki also have a lot of information about this show (both MANGA and ANIME), so if you want to know more about it, that wiki is a good place for information.
The biggest problem with the Saint Tail ANIME is that it insert A WHOLE LOT of FILLER episodes (19 in total) that contradict the MANGA plot and reset or destroy character development. With nearly HALF of ANIME episodes are filler episodes like that, it is of little wonder that A LOT of scenes make no sense, and that is still saying nothing about the fact that they move a lot of important chapters (like chapter 4 and chapter 16) to after the later chapters that FOLLOW their events, which make a lot of events seemingly come out of nowhere, ON TOP OF addition of scenes that contradict the manga plot AND - as I mention earlier - remove and/or alter key details in the manga that link to heavy, non kid-friendly theme. It was quite a miracle that with this many off-the-rail decisions, the Saint Tail ANIME is still functional, albeit with a very confusing plot, a lot of scenes that make no sense, reasons for details (like the lack of mask) become hard if not impossible to understand, and widely diverge in plot with the MANGA.
Finally, in the MANGA, the plot repeatedly remind the readers that Asuka jr is WELL AWARE of Meimi's true identity from chapter 13 onward and is trying to reach her emotionally to help her out, and that is the REAL REASON why he doesn't act on that knowledge of her identity from chapter 13 (adapt into episode 13 in the anime). Because, as it turn out, our dear boy Asuka jr in the MANGA, by the time of chapter 11 (episode 11 in the anime) is already falling head over heel in love with Meimi, and only not confess his love to her because he thought she hate him.
"Even Clark Kent had glasses." 😁 The design of the character is so cute. Her bangs are adorable as well as her eyes. Maybe the writers just didn't want to cover her face.
I will admit a lot of Magical Kid Shows suffer with this trope for the convenience of merchandising. But at least there are at least a few interesting in story reasons to characters not being recognized. Sailor Moon for example does look different than what the audience sees, when she and the other sailor scouts are transformed. In fact it is implied that in their sailor scout forms, which are recreations of their past life forms during the Silver Millenium, that they look more alien, with different skin and hair colors or maybe more ethereal forms depending on the planet they originated from. Similar to the filler arch duo of the 90's anime between the 1st and 2nd archs of the manga. It was just easier on the animation team to keep the Scouts designs similar to their civilian appearances, while also being easier to market and manufacture dolls for. I guarantee if the series ever let us experience the show through the eyes of a civilian Usagi and her friends would look more alien in appearance which automatically justifies why they aren't recognized. And WITCH has the convenience of aging the girls up while also having most of their battles taking place on other worlds with barely anyone on earth knowing about Meridian Pretty Cure. The magical girl show that handles the magical identity concealment...surprisingly competently.. By changing the Hair length/style, hair color, eye color, accessories, make up, and in a few cases, ages of the (lets see here, uh 3+2+6+4+4+4+5+5+4+4+3+6+5+5+4+5+3...) Now 72 active main heroines throughout the currently 19 seasons of the show, the girls can look vastly different in their hero and civilian forms Miraculous...it is all over the place with how the hero designs conceal our heroes identities...maybe if we had more than just the dang skin tight super suits we could have had a more believable reason why our heroes can'trecognize each other.
yea, I can't help but guess, that part of how people can get away with disguises, might be less about others cluelessness, &could probably have more to do with anyone's obliviousness, disinterest or uninterest, at least I know those are core jokes from most adult animated shows,
*Before watching:* The most stupid Mahou Shoujo identity reveal I have ever seen comes from the worst iteration (in my rankings) of Precure - Cure Heart/Aida Mana's reveal at the second to last episode of DokiDoki Precure. She just shouts out her name for the entire world to hear during the last battle for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Not only her reveal was not hinted at, teased or foreshadowed in any way, shape or form prior to it happening, she also ended up revealing the identities of everyone else in the group by association without their consent. Contrast this with Fresh Precure, where all the girls decided to come out to their families and friends because they were about to embark on a journey to enemy territory and had no idea if they would come back alive, and the reveal also changed their relationship with the rest of the cast, both in making it harder for their parents to let them go to another world and making it easier for Setsuna/Passion to return to her original world after everything was done. Now, let's see if the identity reveal in the video will be even more stupid than Plot Armor incarnate, Aida Mana's" *After watching:* Well, that was ridiculous, but at least it seems to respect the rules the story had set - ponytail means nobody knows who she is, no ponytail means everybody can see through her non-disguise. Maybe every other girl has the exact same face and the hair is the only way humanity has found to differentiate between the females of their species in this timeline. I will say this is a stupid reveal because the mechanics of her hiding the identity were also stupid in the first place. But Aida Mana's reveal was the most stupid because the mechanics in place did hide her identity pretty well (changed her hair and eyes color, hair shape, and the characters were usually not seen by civilians when they were fighting) so when she decides to reveal her identity for the world, it is done for absolutely no reason whatsoever, making her reveal the most stupid of the two!
@@TheArtisticAloubell There's a lot of stupidity in DokiDoki Precure (such as Cure Heart befriending the daughter of the big bad that destroyed Cure Sword's kingdom, simply because she has a HUNCH that said daughter can become a good person without having proven or given even a hint that she can, yet the narrative on that episode episode paints Heart as being on the right track). It's impressive how much stupidity happens when your main character has 17 layers of plot armor with spike damage.
@@CocatGaming Mana is never wrong about anything, even when she is the plot will eventually prove she was right all along. She never changes or grows as a character because of it, and any mistakes she makes (as in driving Makoto away because she sided with Regina over a HUNCH) are eventually proven to be her making the right decision that only she could have made and no one else. That's plot armor right there!
I don't want to say this, as it is VERY RUDE of me to say it, and I apologize beforehand about my rudeness, but did nobody actually verified what The Artistic Aloubell said is true or not before commenting? Because a lot of what she say in the video is ABSOLUTELY BULLSHIT. Seriously...
For Saint Tail? SPOILERS!!!!!!!!! . . . . . . Saint Tale/Meimi has to give herself up since she's finally been discovered by her detective-in training love interest (after saving the day and defeating the bad guy, of course). Since she's been found out, Saint Tail has been "captured," so she resolves to never be Saint Tail again. She continues to live on with her life, now in a relationship with her love interest and they get married when they grow up.
The manga explains that while we just see the girls wearing magical girl outfits, the civilians and outsiders see the girls as looking more alien (its magical cloaking). THATS why no one recognizes them~
@@TheArtisticAloubell if that’s the case, why the anime is does the Sailor V game show Sailor V as a human like girl and not more of an alien? That’s what I don’t understand.
@@TheArtisticAloubell Actually, that scene in the ANIME try to implied that he know her identity from seeing her FACE, as if you notice, his eye in that scene is still normal when her hair was undone, and only turn blank when her FACE turn to the mirror 😔 (man, did you watch that scene THAT carelessly? 😔). Note that even THAT is still nonsensical because he had just recall her FACE in the Rosa mirror in episode 40, so this scene without the subtext of him trying to reaching her emotionally to resolve her identity crisis due to dehumanization , which is only make cleared by detail that is exclusive to the manga, make no sense at all.
You might have to search around on the internet DX I don't remember where I watched it since it was so long ago. But I'm sure it must be SOMEWHERE. Type into Google: watch Saint Tail Episode 1 X3
So the detective kid can't noticed that the only girl he knows is Saint Tail? Despite both having the same faces, voices and size? He's a bit stupid X) At least Adrien saw other peoples than Marinette and spends a lot of moments in his home. Plus he's blinded by his love for Ladybug so i kinda understand why he doesn't saw that she's Marinette. This other guy is just not attentive at all!
Where do you get the idea that that "detective kid" has only one girl he know? I don't think the Artistic Aloubell have ever said that in THE WHOLE VIDEO. That kid also know a number of other girls too (like Ryoko, Kyoko and Takamiya).
pretty cure has this problem to a certain extent but the grandmother of the meme is sailor moon. at least saint tail changes hairstyle. usagi and the girls have no excuse
@@Halo_Devil_riki she said there's only magic for the transformation. In that case saint tail and sailor moon use the same excuse. Because magic. Still pretty weak.
In Sailor Moon, the manga at least explains that when the girls are transformed, they have magic around them that makes them look more alien to other people--so what we see is not what other people see. In Saint Tail, there is NO magic whatsoever. It's all slight of hand and stage magic (illusions and stuff that people can do in real life).
@@TheArtisticAloubell Actually, as much as I want to agree with you here, you are ignorant to the point of disgusting level here. Saint Tail author NOTE that her "stage magic" is inspired by Magical Emi, which mean that it is ACTUAL magic that is mundane to the world of the show. Not only that, what kind of stage magic make a mirror "reflect one true image"? If you see that part and still not realized these are actual super natural magic, I don't know what else to say.
Well...I still like Saint Tail's outfit more lol Like, it's not hiding anything--nor is it trying to, but the dress and overall attire is cute! Not functional in the least, but cute! But yes, at least with Ladybug, an attempt at hiding ones secret identity is made XD
@@TheArtisticAloubell it might be functional if the frills and bows help with slight of hand or magic tricks but I don't really know much about that aspect so I can't say for sure
@@TheArtisticAloubell In the original manga, the fact that her outfit hide nothing is there is because it is not even mean to hide her identity to begin with, it is actually the outfit for her future stage magician career. The fact that in the manga, Asuka jr has ALREADY easily find out her identity while she was still thinking she was able to hide it is there to clue the reader into the fact that this girl Meimi is increasingly detached from reality and DESPERATLY need someone to stop her delusion. That someone turn out to be Asuka jr. In fact, that is why the last few chapter, adapt into the 3 last episode, duel with hypnosis, in order to portray her DELUSION in a LITERAL way.
Oh and about the American version, ala the localized version in America (which I presume is the version you preferences in this video), I am sorry to say this, but the translation is so horrible that it miss almost completely the storyline of even the already heavily watered down anime, to say nothing about the manga translation that make one wonder what was they thinking when they make the translation. It is bad enough that the translation make the whole anime looked like it is completely disconnected (the original JAPANESE ANIME is a mess but not to that level), but then there is what I refer to as "translation trainwreck" as well. For instance, did you know that the reason Asuka jr is so obsessed with catching Saint Tail at first is actually because Meimi give him the condition to date her is "to catch Saint Tail and prove himself as a detective" (she say that in jest, mind you) and that his true obsession, from the start to finish of the manga, has always been about Meimi, and NEVER was about Saint Tail specifically? In the JAPANESE manga and anime, this part is quite subtle but is not that hard to notice, since her exact word on this matter is pretty clear about that. But the translation change her word into calling him "dingy", making it look like she is asking him to catch Saint Tail to do something about him being short, which is so absurdly ridiculous to the point that I don't even know how on earth did they arrive at that translation (for comparison, the manga and EVEN the JAPANESE ANIME has her calling him an "amateur detective", with make sense when combine with her asking him to catch Saint Tail to do something about that). So, to be perfectly honest, I don't think the English version of this anime is a good reference point. Just saying.
@@TheArtisticAloubell I’m saying that their identities are just as obvious. I watched Saint Tail and I know the reveal was pretty pathetic as the only difference is her hair being up, but compared to other magical girls who don’t even change their own hairstyle while transforming isn’t any different.
@@zatannavolkoff the difference, I think, with saint Tail is that no actual magic is involved, which makes it more ridiculous that no one could tell her identity. With other magical girl shows, they at least have a vague excuse of "magic" that makes it so that people don't recognize them.
@@TheArtisticAloubell Kinda. Even though her magic was like “magician-like magic”, I see what you’re saying. Regardless, it was a cute classic show in the end.
While yes, that is ridiculous, there's an in canon explanation as to why the senshi aren't recognized. According to the manga, when the girls transform, their appearance looks very alien to others and so in others' eyes, they look nothing like themselves. That's why no one can tell who they are.
To give you an idea about the reason why I say "you can't blame the anime for censorship", and how brutal the original manga can be sometime, despite being a manga marketed to literal CHILDREN, let me give you an example: In the final chapter of the manga, at the scene of the "endless hallway" in Meimi's hallucination, there is a scene that was completely cut out of the anime and being replaced by the scene of Meimi dropping through a collapsed floor. Guess what is in the scene that was cut? The "lovely" image of Meimi being CRUSHED under a collapsed pillar, screaming out "ASUKA JR." when she was hit. Oh, and the author also include a BLOOD SPLATTERED drawing just to drive home the point that she is DYING in her hallucination. Now you probably can tell why I say that I can't blame the anime for censorship.
Excuse me for my rude comments before, you are right, after watching Saint Tail ANIME more carefully, I'd say that "reveal" not only is stupid, it actually make NO SENSE within the plot too, and that is because the original MANGA it adapt from is MUCH DARKER and discuss very heavy topic like self-destructive love and especially DEHUMANIZATION, which is not exactly kid-friendly stuff. The ANIME had to tone these theme down heavily AND also remove or change a lot of key details that link to them, hence it make a lot of important scenes like this one make no sense as the details that would explain them in the MANGA had been removed or altered. As for the lack of mask, in the MANGA, this is because Meimi has very little self worth and sense of self-preservation and from chapter 4 onward, the plot boil down to Meimi basically try to DESTROY HERSELF for the sake of Asuka jr's happiness, so don't say about wearing mask, she would even be willing to DIE for him. To give you an idea of what I mean by those words, Meimi in the MANGA is basically slowly turned into a romantic masochist. For more accurate and through analysis of this, you can search for the article "what actually happened in Saint Tail's second half" on Google, the author of that article has more clear and more accurate description of this matter than me (the chapter of the reveal is chapter 23: the truth in the mirror). My apology for my rude words before.
Thank you so much for the clarification! I'm glad I wasn't crazy and that the anime, as much as I enjoyed it, really didn't do a good job with the reveal. Thanks for letting me know that the manga has a lot more going on with it!
Men, I said I will stop comment about this, but here I am, comment about Saint Tail on this comment section again!😅. I just want to note that my comments regarding the Saint Tail ANIME, while harsh, is not meant as levying accusion of any kind on the animators and the producer of the anime. You can't really blame them about altering the plot from the original manga and doing a TON of censorship when the original Kaitou Saint Tail manga is notorious as one of those "Shoujo" manga ("Shoujo"= "for young girls", from elementary school female kids to middle school children) that have a self-destructive-in-love heroine and an abused-in-childhood male lead. That and its discussion of society disregard for individual's humanity and see them as tool (like Saint Tail is seen by many in the manga, EVEN CHILDREN, as merely help sent by god, rather than her own human, doing those helps out of her own desire, to the point that sometime, they don't even acknowledge her contribution AT ALL) hence the "dehumanization" that I keep mentioning (and in case you are wondering, then yes, that "society" is mean to reflect the JAPANESE society, and that part of the story is meant as a scathing cricitism of its heavy pressure on the individual Japanese to do thing that benefit society (like studying hard for the sake of the family) but with little regard for their own individual's desire (this is during the 90s, a far more conservative time in Japan)).
The reveal in Sailor Moon was done a bit better. And apparently it's canon that the Sailor Senshi appear more alien to civilians and other people when they transform. So what we see isn't what other people see. That's why they arent recognized. It would definitely be cool to see what others see, though >.
Well, Meimi identity was EASILY found out by her lover Asuka jr in the manga though, and the whole "no one know her true identity" is told from HER perspective to give the reader the clue that Meimi is DELUSIONAL and need help with her mental health problem, cause by her DEHUMANIZATION through the capers.
Oh there is, anime Mermide melody is on same level, main caracter Lucia is a Mermide and she saves this boy Kaito who is now im love whit her and has a perl that is her Magic sorce, she goes on land to find it, and they are now friends, then he saw her up close in Mermide form but he is Adrian level blind so he dont realize its her but only thing diferent is that her hair is in pigtails and she has Blue eyes ( in human form eyes are Brown), but that is not the best part, legend is that if Mermide say her name to one she love she Will become foam, but we dont now if this is True becouse is a legend made up by humans, and the best part in the end Kaito is not a human, is a princ of the see, force of light is dark sea and she coud told hima and nothing woud hapend 😭, but ok now they now is the end od S1, but look at that is S2 ep 1 he lost all of his memoris of metmides and just mermides and is in love whit some girl that found him on some beach🤬🤬🤬, and all seson they arent together again 🤬🤬🤬
I'm quite familiar with Mermaid Melody X3 I didn't finish the series, but I've seen many episodes! I'll at least give it to Kaito that Lucia has different hair length and color, and different eye color between her mermaid and human form, plus she was so nervous to sing in front of him in her human form that she sounded bad, so you can understand a bit of his confusion XD
@@TheArtisticAloubell no if 7 year old can put it together, Kaito shoud be able to do so to 😤, but is understadable a bit more then this one in the video😅, and i am really sorry ih i spoild something for you 😥
Well I WISH that the character of Saint Tail was stupid, because that mean they don't suffer as much. Instead, in the manga, Meimi is DELUSIONAL due to mental health problem cause by DEHUMANIZATION and have a very self-destructive view of love, and Asuka jr is head over heel in love with Meimi. You can guess how much pain they go through in the MANGA. No wonder the ANIME had to tone that down, but it also make a lot of scenes become nonsensical.
Anyway, for anyone interest about reading the original manga in a fairly accurate translation, a recent retranslation into English by hudiesubs of the Kaitou Saint Tail manga is available on mangadex. They are also translating the anime as we speak. I just want to let Aloubell and anyone here that is interested know about it.
Saint Tail sounds similar to DNAngel

The way that Meimi’s identity would have been figured out so much quicker if she just forgot to put her hair in a ponytail one day-
LOL imagine xD
Lol or if her hair tie broke
@@user-dm7pe8je9x it did
*She had to go out and buy some more*
In the defense of the show, I used to wear my hair up in a ponytail all the time at my original job.
That's fair X3
This was once happened to me when i wore a hijab with another color. Fyi:I was leaning my head so that no one entering the classroom could see it. (Btw:Apologies if i did mistake)
This reminds me of my first few days of college, I had curly haired classmate and a week or so into classes she comes with her hair straightened and I kid you not I was struggling to recognize if she was the same person 😩
@@mdafneirais haha fair enough!
A similar thing happened to my sister. My sister has long bangs and one day she decided to tie them up. We went to meet up with our friend and he was like "Who are you". I legid thought he was joking but no,he couldn't tell it was my sister because she didn't have her bangs
I actually haven’t seen the show before
But the reveal was hilariously stupid, and the fact it was supposed to be taken seriously was even more ridiculous as Gabriel finding out Adrien’s super hero identity because he said My lady over the phone in the 100th episode called ephemeral in miraculous ladybug
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And btw good video 👍😁
Oh yes. It's the same energy as Gabriel making the connection with "M'lady" lol
Saint Tail is a better show than MLB imo, but the reveal just wasn't it X'D
One reveal I find pretty funny in a magical anime is when the main character of doki doki precure just yells her name in front of news cameras during the climax for the whole city to see
That's honestly hilarious haha
I also like the magical girl shows that drastically change the appearance of the heroes. Makes the lack of recognizing them so much more believable x3
this reminds me of PriPara, which is more an idol anime than a magical girl, but it makes way more sense that people can't recognise some of the characters (like Lala, who's grown up in her idol form, and Mireille, who goes from serious brunette to brightly coloured energetic blonde) but can recognise others, because some of them change their appearance and others don't.
Saint Tail is legitimately cute and fun and it's nice to meet someone else who has seen it x3
The reveal is ridiculous, but the ride was still fun x3
I never watched this anime as a kid but... the reveal was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous! My eyes went wide when you said the spoiler that she is Saint Tail. I'm just like, well they literally look alike without having a mask so how can you not realize that?!
Anyway, speaking of magical girls what is your favorite series?
Mine is Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon (because I literally grew up watching that anime in the early 2000s)
Lol
Saint Tail is a super cute and charming show. I just wish the reveal was done better x''''3
My favorite magical girl show...hmm...probably Shugo Chara x3
@@TheArtisticAloubell Saint Tail is on my list for a long time but I never got a chance to watch it.
Shugo Chara is a great anime in the 2000s. But now I don't hear anyone mention this anymore.
@@SuperShana97 you should totally watch Saint Tail when you get the chance x3
And yeah!
I haven't watched too many magical girl/boy anime aside from Sailor Moon (still need to finish the new dub), but it always makes me laugh with how little the characters conceal their identities (other than Tuxedo Mask) and yet no one, be it civilian/villain/other heroes, can recognize any of the Sailor Scouts XD
Usagi with no tiara/jewel buns: Oh look it's Usagi!
Having said that, for all the magical girl shows that provide no justification for people not recognizing them, I shake my head lol
I think Saint Tail is a good show. The reveal, however, wasn't done well X'D
@@TheArtisticAloubell fair point! And it's not like too many civilians are ever in situations where they are right next to any of the senshi during monster attacks, so it's understandable that they are just too stunned (at least the ones not affected by monsters) by the appearance of heroines with super powers to be like "dont they look a little familiar?"
Think one of the few exceptions was that guy who had a crush on Ami (during the rainbow crystal arc), recognizing her as Sailor Mercury when she took him to safety.

Saint Tail is otherwise a great story. That part was just dumb lol
Thank you! ❤️
I gona say, i love the way you redraw your oc, she really respresents your personality 😊
Thank you
Let me just say
YOUR DRAWING SKILLS ARE AMAZING!👏🏽
Thank you! I owe what skills I have to the experience God has given me
By the way, in the original manga, the whole "no one know about Meimi's true identity" is told through MEIMI's own perspective in order to give the readers the clue that Meimi is DELUSIONAL and need help with regard to her mental health before she completely destroy herself by mistaking those delusion as reality.
Fair enough! ^0^
I might actually watch it, seems cute. Can't wait to see the dramatic reveal, haha)
Oh the show is super cute and I do recommend it! The reveal was just illogical lol
XD
I remember this show and liking it as well. Yay
But in more serious note, if I remember correctly Aska Jr does come close to figuring it out only for the girl to pull a fast one by making it appear as if the theif is actually a drag queen pulling of the heists. That kind of changes the suspect pool a little.
Fair enough XD
Is there anything else I should know about Saint Tale before I watch it?
Nevertheless, the reveal was still kind of goofy because he legit did not recognize her until her ponytail came loose XD
In any case, I'm glad you enjoyed Saint Tail! ^_^
@@TheArtisticAloubell I'll continue watching it till the reveal. I still have half of the show unfinished and whether the reveal is ridiculous or not it doesn't matter if it's enjoyable. So thanks again.
@@selolaikaloi8942 very true! The show was entertaining regardless 😁
Some scenes in the anime made it unclear as to whether or not Asuka Jr could see her face or not, so it was a bit ambiguous to me >___<
Either way, its still a bit silly haha
You also try to watch Kamekaze kaito jeanne! It’s not dubbed sadly though and super hard to find😣
I do want to check it out one day! ^_^
Ah yeah, I forget to tell you this: TV tropes wiki also have a lot of information about this show (both MANGA and ANIME), so if you want to know more about it, that wiki is a good place for information.
lot!, of course. She named herself after her ponytail so she can't be the thief if she doesn't have one.
XD
"Even Clark Kent had glasses." 😁
The design of the character is so cute. Her bangs are adorable as well as her eyes. Maybe the writers just didn't want to cover her face.
Oh yes her design is super cute X3
And WITCH has the convenience of aging the girls up while also having most of their battles taking place on other worlds with barely anyone on earth knowing about Meridian
Pretty Cure. The magical girl show that handles the magical identity concealment...surprisingly competently.. By changing the Hair length/style, hair color, eye color, accessories, make up, and in a few cases, ages of the (lets see here, uh 3+2+6+4+4+4+5+5+4+4+3+6+5+5+4+5+3...) Now 72 active main heroines throughout the currently 19 seasons of the show, the girls can look vastly different in their hero and civilian forms
Miraculous...it is all over the place with how the hero designs conceal our heroes identities...maybe if we had more than just the dang skin tight super suits we could have had a more believable reason why our heroes can'trecognize each other.

@@TheArtisticAloubell it's okay. Btw, Kaitou Joker have same concept like Saint Tail. They both a phantom thief
yea, I can't help but guess, that part of how people can get away with disguises, might be less about others cluelessness, &could probably have more to do with anyone's obliviousness, disinterest or uninterest, at least I know those are core jokes from most adult animated shows,
*Before watching:* The most stupid Mahou Shoujo identity reveal I have ever seen comes from the worst iteration (in my rankings) of Precure - Cure Heart/Aida Mana's reveal at the second to last episode of DokiDoki Precure.
Now, let's see if the identity reveal in the video will be even more stupid than Plot Armor incarnate, Aida Mana's"
*After watching:* Well, that was ridiculous, but at least it seems to respect the rules the story had set - ponytail means nobody knows who she is, no ponytail means everybody can see through her non-disguise.
You bring up a very strong contender for stupidest reveal XD
@@TheArtisticAloubell There's a lot of stupidity in DokiDoki Precure (such as Cure Heart befriending the daughter of the big bad that destroyed Cure Sword's kingdom, simply because she has a HUNCH that said daughter can become a good person without having proven or given even a hint that she can, yet the narrative on that episode episode paints Heart as being on the right track).
It's impressive how much stupidity happens when your main character has 17 layers of plot armor with spike damage.
Saying Mana is has plot amour is just flat out wrong.

Meanwhile, Sailor Moon has the exact same hairstyle untransformed and no one can figure that out.
So the only way he knows that is her if her hair was down ????
That's what the scene implied, yes lol
A weird reveal to an otherwise good anime x3
That dumb
I dont know where I could find this show... 😐
You might have to search around on the internet DX I don't remember where I watched it since it was so long ago. But I'm sure it must be SOMEWHERE. Type into Google: watch Saint Tail Episode 1
X3
In glitter force doki doki or glitter force can't remember everyone literally already new the main character was a superhero it's just no one told her
Oh thats funny haha
So the detective kid can't noticed that the only girl he knows is Saint Tail? Despite both having the same faces, voices and size? He's a bit stupid X) At least Adrien saw other peoples than Marinette and spends a lot of moments in his home. Plus he's blinded by his love for Ladybug so i kinda understand why he doesn't saw that she's Marinette. This other guy is just not attentive at all!
Yes, the detective kid is quite not smart haha. Or he's as oblivious as the story needs him to be XD
Where do you get the idea that that "detective kid" has only one girl he know? I don't think the Artistic Aloubell have ever said that in THE WHOLE VIDEO. That kid also know a number of other girls too (like Ryoko, Kyoko and Takamiya).
@@TheArtisticAloubell Sigh, you will regret what you say here.
Clark Kent wearing glasses to hide his identity will always be the dumbest thing to me. Cause what if his glasses just fall off? Or he forgets them
EXACTLY. Theres honestly no excuse for that one lol
pretty cure has this problem to a certain extent but the grandmother of the meme is sailor moon. at least saint tail changes hairstyle. usagi and the girls have no excuse
Well, sailor moon has magic, so there is an excuse, even though it's weak, but in the video, she said that Saint Tail DOESN'T have magic.
Seriously, she makes Marinette's Ladybug outfit look less stupid.
Just saying.
keep up the good work
Thank you!
Once again very late rewatching all videos anyways starlight arrives 3:14
Nice! You get another Starlight cookie! ✨🍪✨
Uh......you do realize that Sailor Moon, Ladybug, all the precure girls and so many other magical girl shows are literally no different, right?
I heavily disagree. They have similar things about them, but they are different. They have different identities.
@@zatannavolkoff Agreed. It's a very cute show 😊✨
I mean, there's Sailor Moon, where Serena and SM look exactly the same
While yes, that is ridiculous, there's an in canon explanation as to why the senshi aren't recognized.
What kind of magic girl
underrated
😁 thanks!
This reminds me of sailor moon, it's the same logic
The reveal in Sailor Moon was done a bit better. And apparently it's canon that the Sailor Senshi appear more alien to civilians and other people when they transform. So what we see isn't what other people see. That's why they arent recognized.
It would definitely be cool to see what others see, though >.
The fact that people don't recognize Meimi because of a ponytail is, LOL!
@@TheArtisticAloubell no if 7 year old can put it together, Kaito shoud be able to do so to 😤, but is understadable a bit more then this one in the video😅, and i am really sorry ih i spoild something for you 😥
@@jinxchanel3638 oh no you're fine x3
I know most of the mermaid melody spoilers (the important ones anyway haha)

The reveal(s) from Danny Phantom were rather stupid.
And here I thought the characters of miraculous were stupid. 😐 have a nice day and stay safe. 😁
Lol
Saint Tail is such a cute and fun show, but this part I couldn't take seriously xD
You have a great day and stay safe too! ❤️

Thank you! 💕
