I lost my grandfather 10 years ago. My grandpa had sortve evolved into a grumpier guy as he got older, but when I was born, my mom said it rejuvenated alot of his youthful happiness. He cherished me so much. We used to go fishing all the time at this park near our home, and when my parents were having a rough time, he immediately took me in. We got the Wii when it first came out, and I was little at the time, maybe Kindergarten age. But I remember me and him playing Wii sports bowling or golfing for hours on end, almost having tournaments of it. When he was getting sick, I didn't understand the situation before it was too late. And when I realized he was gone, it tore me apart. I'll always remember the good times, and I miss him alot.
he sounds like he was an amazing man, and i just know from this comment that all that love and kindness has poured into you. i hope you have a great day❤️
It's hard not to cry watching Fat Albert for the same reason you might cry watching the Santa Claus from Miracle on 34th Street. The sincere kindness and sweetness and well-meaning and good-doing of Albert is something grown people are rarely treated to media aimed our way. It's not a joke -- he's not an idiot or crazy or boring or weak -- he just *means* it. It actually feels more magical that someone could be that good then that they could be a cartoon character.
Sadly, the cel animation was obsolete but hand-drawn animation is still kept to this day but the difference is that digital ink-and-color did improved the quality very well. Plus, there are some cel frames of iconic animated cartoons is still exist and it is displayed somewhere. You can buy one of those frames on Ebay or something.
You saved his voice message too. Imagine having that much of an impact on people. It's like moms smelling the clothes of their dead kids or something. You don't want to let it go, but as long as you hold some sort of memory of them, you keep them alive. The memories others have of us is the closest someone can come to immortality. Personally, that's why I try to be good to everyone.
Fat Albert was one of the first movies I ever remember seeing in an actual theater, the only ones I remember seeing before it was Attack of the Clones and Spy Kids 2, the movie theater I saw them all in closed down like 15 years ago.
Such an underrated movie in my opinion. It had comedy, good character progression and emotion, on top of adapting the source material in a way that wasn't offensive or jarring (cough cough Disney or Netflix with Death Note)
My family really enjoyed this movie. My mom still calls DVD's "div-duh's" Your speech summing up how you feel gave me some serious emotions. I'm glad this movie helped you, and it is so sweet that you thought of him when you watched it. I'm sure he absolutely is proud of you
How “how fat Albert made me cry” made me cry Damn man hearing you talk about your grandfather made me break down. I chose my college to spend time and help take care of my grandfather. I miss him so much. It’s been 3 years and this still broke me down. I only “like” around 3-5 videos a year. Congrats, you’ve really earned this one.
How the hell does this movie have a 23% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 44% for audience scoring!? This movie isn't _that_ good, sure, but it's just a genuinely decent movie! The characters translated very well from animation to live-action, the plot is decent, and even the very little minute details are amazing! Like Albert's color fading away, the characters becoming more human as the movie goes on, etc. It's not a masterpiece, but it is a beautiful movie, in my opinion. Actually seeing that last scene made _me_ cry a little too!
I agree with you and I think this movie is underrated and I like it for what it is and I always try find the message of the movie and what it can teach us.
I love how early 2000s this is, I remember I 101% only saw this because of the cast, this was one of the first movies I saw in theaters, me and my family just watched everything on bootleg, but I forced my mom to take me to see this lol
@@DaDualityofMan I think my dad definitely bought it for us on DVD when the movie came out, because my dad was big on movies for us as kids. Thank you for calling out the Nostalgia Critic beat-by-beat method of looking at movies! I'm so glad that era where every movie reviewer on UA-cam felt the need to do that is over. Really sweet review. It's always nice to see appreciative reviews of movies that most people dismiss.
Yeah because Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critic was talking hella cash money shit about 90s kids movies I looked at him and said, “My guy chill out on that. We know these movies didn’t age well with you but goddamn stop bitching about these movies that other people had a good time with.” Movie review critics like him, Nostalgia Critic, are annoying and take certain movies too serious as if it caused a major city bomb.
@@RalphJr-xp3hp it's all for the funnies. which is good, cause it is pretty funny to crack jokes at movies, and it kinda gives you the narrative of the movie as well in a way so you can follow all of it even if you haven't watched it. And it's never really supposed to be a serious thing where you determine the quality of the thing from it. I still watch that stuff never really for the 'review' aspect but just cause it's a fun experience going through a film or show and just takin jabs at it.
I think the only reviewer that did that style well was The Unusual Suspect. His jokes are funny enough and offers a fair amount of criticism throughout before the conclusion at the end. He is moving on from the format which kinda disappointed me but it offers opportunity to do something fresh.
Fat Albert means a lot to me, and that's why I appreciate you taking the time to open up. Fat Albert showed me that it was okay to be large. I was always a big kid growing up, even now I'm 7 feet 2 inches 431 pounds (of pure mussel). I recently rewatched the film and it brought back memories of wiping away my delicious salty tears while watching Fat Albert on TV. Fat Albert showed me acceptance when my contemporaries didn't. I still sleep in my Fat Albert bedsheets while my life sized Fat Albert plushie keeps me safe. I know it may be strange for a Latvian to love a piece of Americana media this much, but it holds a special place in my heart.
Sorry for your loss...My grandmother passed away 2 years ago, and I miss her a lot. I was there when she had trouble breathing and I was just finishing something to eat for me and her 😞. Even though we had our disagreements she would apologize. And it would be genuine and we would act like it never happened
When he said “I really really miss my grandfather” it resonated so much with me that I could actually feel my heart crumble because I lost someone important a while back and I still haven’t let that go so hearing say that opened up those feelings again.
“Y’all like Chance?” Me: “yeah, I do. But why does that fit so well...” Five minutes later my dumbass remembers Chance has an album called Coloring Book
Boy, this movie has a lot more going for it than I initially thought. Sad to hear about your grandpa. I lost my dad last year. May they both be looking down on us with joy.
I mean Cosby's work meant a lot to black people, I looked up to Bill Cosby, he reminded me of my own grandpa, that's why it especially hurt after finding out what he was really doing.
@@DaDualityofMan Same, he was like a Black Mr. Rogers in a way. I was heartbroken when I found out how messed up he is. Edit: And also since my grandpa’s a deadbeat, he kinda played that role for me on TV.
Bill Cosby may have done some bad things and deserved consequences for them, but I feel like this shows that he was, at least at one point in his life, a good person who had good things to say. It's just... he totally blew it, and he let us all down. And yeah, even though I never met him, I'm angry at him for that. I'm not about to go back and watch Cosby Show reruns anytime soon, but still... I think people like Tariq are totally legit in appreciating something Bill Cosby worked on in one of his better moments. We shouldn't discard every story that ends badly.
Holy shit man now I’m crying! My grandpa was bipolar during a time that people didn’t understand what that meant he always just kinda felt different and had a lack of close connection with a lot of his family because of it. However that wasn’t the case with me. Even as a very young child the two of us just connected… we just got each other in that way two kindred spirits do and we just understood each other on some level. We read books, played, games, made up stories, and watched tv and movies together. Whenever something came on TV that he thought I might like he would record it onto a vhs for me. One of those things was Fat Albert, the tv show and eventually the movie. The last time I saw this movie I was like 8 years old and all I remember is was Keenan Thompson in a fat suit. At that point in time I still had my grandpa and had never faced the kind of problems dealt with in the movie so it was just a silly movie to me. My grandpa passed away when I was in 5th grade and I haven’t really given fat Albert a thought since. But now I think I’m going to have to watch it again with a giant box of tissues because I just lost it with your video and hearing you talk about your grandfather made me remember the connection my own had with this character and how much I miss him. 15:20-15:22 what makes the scene sadder is that it's basically like a grandfather telling his granddaughter he loves her one last time before he passes on.
Man that moment when you said “I missed my grandfather” hit me so hard. Recently one of my favorite voice actors of all time (being Kirby Morrow and if you don’t know him, he was known as Goku in a English dub of Dragon Ball Z for some time and he was also known as Cole from LEGO Ninjago) passed away on November 18th 2020 from unknown causes (the reason why I say unknown is because his family has not released a cause of death) and it legit broke me because Kirby Morrow helped me to inspire myself to become a better person because when I gotten into Lego Ninjago, I moved away far away from my childhood home leaving my closest friend (who I won’t name here) who I lost contact for a very long time so one day I remembered a show called Lego Ninjago which was a show my childhood friend at the time said he watched I decided to give it shot. I watched the show ever since and Cole (which Kirby Morrow played before he passed away) reminded me so much of my friend and when I recently found him on Facebook and started talking to him. This was when I found out Kirby passed away and so I think Kirby Morrow helped me found my friend that I desperately missed all this time and I wished I can thank Kirby Morrow for helping me but I sadly can’t so Kirby Morrow, thank you for helping me find my best friend! Rest In Peace Kirby Morrow! 😭 *edit as of Christmas Eve 2020* Okay so two things, firstly thank you everyone who liked this comment because I didn’t expect to get so many likes and secondly recently Kirby Morrow’s brother (named Casey Morrow and roughly he made the post about 4 or so days ago) made a Facebook post stating the cause of death of Kirby Morrow which was Substance Abuse. As of this edit, Casey Morrow is not clear if the substance was drugs or alcohol and I don’t want to know which one it is since either way I’m still saddened that Kirby is still gone. All I can say I hope Kirby Morrow is resting in peace and I hope everyone who reads this comment have a great and safe holiday.
There actually WAS a Fat Albert reference in The Simpsons! In one episode, Homer joins a "fat support group": rather than help each other lose weight, they encourage unhealthy diets because "it's their body". Their leader is a man in a power scooter named Albert, and Homer quips, "Oh, you mean like Fat Albert?" The man says, "We don't use that word around here."

im the same way when i watch Good Burger. My aunt ,who passed in 2010, loved that movie...from what my mom and grandparents tell me...and i can’t help but to tear up and smile when i watch it. Hey dude, my grandfather passed away this year too, I really felt you on this one. He actually got to watch me graduate just a few days before he died. I don't think I've really internalized it either, but watching this video, it was a good reminder. That he does love me and he is proud of me, wherever he is. Sorry, this turned into a ramble but...thanks, and great video dude.
This might seem weird, but me and my brother and our cousins LOVED this movie growing up. We would watch it together and decide which members of the Cosby Kids gang which each where, and we have all cried many times because of this movie. Honestly seeing this video is like a gut punch of nostalgia and lost childhood innocence, like damn.
Hearing you talk about you grandfather made me sob. It reminded me of how I feel watching Holes. So many people find the movie okay or overrated…but it was my favorite movie to watch with my grandmother. I never really bonded much with her as she was narcissistic and distant but that movie was the one time she was human with me and would quote the part about the girl not wanting to dig and being told “that’s too damn bad”. I miss her so much.
When I clicked this video it was to go back on memories of watching this movie as a kid. I never understood the message like I do now and I can say this means a whole lot more. Lately things haven't been great I've been experiencing a bad depression episode. Seeing this and feeling what I feel lately brings a whole new meaning to it a swirl of bitter sweet and I felt your emotions. This makes me so happy and for a moment I felt something good without masking my pain. And it won't last long but I'll be thankful. May your grandfather rest in peace. ♡
The amount of emotion you put into your work is so indescribable that you can bring someone whose never seen a single fat Albert episode or the movie to tears. The emotion you had made it impossible to not understand that feeling you had for this movie and the connection it had to something you loved so much. Thanks for sharing this.

The editing the track, the conditioning you massaged in, Cosby’s story, and how you connected it to ur life. Now ur Gfather lives on thru this movie as well. And it forces me to reach even further back to roots unknown and appreciate what was endured so that I may be here. And always let that past connection bring out the absolute best in you. As Fat Albert did for his live action granddaughter. Enough so to overcome life’s challenges. Kinda wish I had come across this yesterday. Happy belated by 1 day to ur grandfather.
I actually just came from the Nostalgia Critic video on this film... And... I felt he was harsh over it, even the Rotten Tomatoes score too... I didn't know about Fat Albert being a cartoon, but as a kid I saw the commercial and wanted to give it a try, and I LOVED it as a kid. Now? I got a lot of respect for the heart I almost forgot it had genuinely, especially cause I honestly lost my own grandpa not long back... And I sadly never got to spend much time with him growing up... With how harsh Doug Walker was on the movie, I felt lead to try and find a more positive video on it, and I ended up finding it. Man, I really appreciated your video, and you earned a new subscriber. 🫂 Have a good one sir, and God bless. 🙏
You helped me process my grandpa’s death. He passed away four years ago and. My grandma passed away this year, before Covid hit fortunately. Going into this: Haha how could Fat Albert make someone cry?
Coming out of this: Aw man now I'm crying too.
This movie's style is oppressively, aggressively 2004 in a way that's giving me 'Nam flashbacks
Gives me the same vibe as Are We There Yet and Son of the Mask, because it's so of it's time. I have certain memories surrounding these weird movies.
2004 is just one of those movie styles that I unapologetically enjoy. It’s just something about the feel.

🙏❤️
he sounds like he was an amazing man, and i just know from this comment that all that love and kindness has poured into you. i hope you have a great day❤️

Damn man. I didn't know a comment could make me both happy and sad at the same time. I hope you're doing well
So the fat Albert movie is basically her grandpas spirit manifesting himself to help her solve her problems I love that
It's hard not to cry watching Fat Albert for the same reason you might cry watching the Santa Claus from Miracle on 34th Street.
"Celluloid" is what makes film stock. It's what the Fat Albert cels were shot on.
Kenan Thompson is somehow perfect as Fat Albert.
He IS fat Albert
He embodies his personality so well
You saved his voice message too.
Agreed
Fun fact : Fat Albert was one of the two last films I purchased from Blockbuster , the other one being the pirates who don't do anything.

I never went from crying to giggling so fast as this comment made me do right now 😅.
I loved this movie SO. MUCH. as a kid, my god... This had such a good cast for its time
Right? Like is this the black scott pilgrim in regards to cast? Lol

I didn't even know Fat Albert had merchandise
My dad passed away before this year started, he was 54. I miss him everyday. Even through the bad times, we still loved each other.
Sorry for your loss...My grandmother passed away 2 years ago, and I miss her a lot. I was there when she had trouble breathing and I was just finishing something to eat for me and her 😞. Even though we had our disagreements she would apologize. And it would be genuine and we would act like it never happened
Never thought I'd see a review of the Kenan Thompson Fat Albert film that made me teary-eyed at the end.
When he said “I really really miss my grandfather” it resonated so much with me that I could actually feel my heart crumble because I lost someone important a while back and I still haven’t let that go so hearing say that opened up those feelings again.

Me:"Now that's something I didn't expect to hear from something that Cosby had involvement with , interesting "
I think Cosby caused a lot of women to cry I could be wrong tho
Well, the series is iconic, and Bill Cosby made some good shows. I’m also pretty sure he was railroaded. Everyone was high during the 70s. 🙄
You got me crying my eyes out man. Happy Birthday to your grandfather
