Inflammation is often hidden or silent, something that we can’t see or feel, but manifests itself as Alzheimer’s, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression, and more. Typically, inflammation has been raging inside for a while before you even notice there’s anything wrong. The three biggest drivers of inflammation are all lifestyle factors-gut health, diet, and chronic stress.
In this video, I interview Dr. David Perlmutter about brain inflammation and its relation to diet, lifestyle behaviors, and more.
Dr. David Perlmutter is a Board-Certified Neurologist and five-time New York Times bestselling author. He serves on the Board of Directors and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. He is the author of Grain Brain among others, and his upcoming book, Drop Acid is out February 15, 2022.
Dr. Perlmutter received his M.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine where he was awarded the Leonard G. Rowntree Research Award. He serves as a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Archives of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and The Journal of Applied Nutrition. In addition, he is a frequent lecturer at symposia sponsored by institutions such as the World Bank and IMF, Columbia University, Scripps Institute, New York University, and Harvard University, and serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Thankfully I read Grain Brain when I became a new mom. I monitor my children’s sugar and processed food intake VERY closely and keep as minimal as possible (so hard to do in our foodie culture) My kids do not hv any focus or behavior issues and I believe its bc of the food I feed them, lots of butter and other healthy fats and lots of vegetables.
When my son started piano at 6 y.o., his piano teacher was shocked and amazed he could sit and learn for 30 mins straight. Both my kids are calm, happy kids. Thank you Dr. Perlmutter!

Yes so true, it is really hard to do in today's oulture! I did the best for my kids who are all grown now, I never let them have sweets process sugars or pop like soft drinks etc. They had better choices like fresh squeeze citrus juices, and I cook almost all of our meals at home. I also let my kids drink warm lemon water before breakfast at bedtime or if they had an ice cream or a piece of candy occassionally!

That means you can go to 36 other countries and receive better - that still hurts me to say - but, you can receive BETTER health care than the US. It's alarming and weird. I've been on PPI's for such a long time. I'm 50 now, but I had a Duodenum ulcer as a 10 year old kid, but recovered with a few months of Tagament in the early 80s. I was on Pantoprazole 20 mg from 2009 after a hiatal hernia issue until 2018. I tried to quit several times and the effects were bad so I started PPI again until 2020 when I stopped again which caused Barrets Esophagus and such misery until I got back on the PPI. I'm actually afraid to try again. However, I was also drinking alcohol quite heavily in 2020, but currently do not drink.
I would like to wean myself off of this Pantoprazole 40mg and get my gut health in order. I'm retired U.S military living in the Canary Islands and my access to healthcare is limited. I've suffered depression and brain fog for so long.
Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

What affect does coffee have on the microbiome (aside from the caffeine)? I recently switched from coffee to green tea (which still has caffeine), but I also made a bunch of other changes to my diet (added more fiber; eliminated grain, dairy, and sugar...except from natural sources such as fruit and honey). So, I really can't tell if eliminating coffee contributed to my feeling better.
I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2017, and had been on a downward spiral for about ten years before that. My main symptoms were insomnia and chronic fatigue. I saw so many doctors that wanted to hang their hats on sleep apnea. Only after I saw this video with you and Dr. LaPine was I able to make some improvement:
    ua-cam.com/video/vptrR22l-_E/v-deo.html
I tried his antibiotic boost (Silversol, artemisia, Japanese knot weed, cat's claw) and saw some improvement, but I really think the diet changes are helping my microbiome/immunity/fatigue issues. Your videos are a fantastic resource. Thanks for the great work!

    • @alwaysright5901
      @alwaysright5901 2 роки тому +4

I would seriously consider changing to a holistic dentist near you as soon as possible. They're out there. Cleaning teeth does cause bad bacteria already in the gums to go deeper into the bloodstream, heart, etc and cause problems. A holistic dentist would never prescribe antibiotics for every teeth cleaning! They would analyze and examine the mouth and teeth and eliminate the bad pathogens in the gums/mouth so that this issue is eliminated in the first place. I've switched to a holistic dentist myself as well. It may not be all covered by insurance, but well worth the price since death starts in the mouth.

    • @adeypoos

This is an incomplete statement. Insulin spikes after protein consumption are dependent on the bodies background insulin/glucose levels. In a fasted state, if you consume protein, insulin doesn’t spike because of the risk of the body going into a hypoglycaemic state and potential coma. Carbohydrates spike insulin, fats very little and protein does/doesn’t dependent on the underlying blood insulin/glucose levels.

I watched a utube vid where a doc was talking about Q10. He said he has read all of the research on it and the research finds that your body will not absorb supplemental q10 in any form and the conclusion was it is a waste of money to take them.

Whoa there, Doc... if millions of years of evolution created life, then Hitler didn't do anything evil, bcz evil is a religious term. Evolution says there's no right or wrong, that it's ok for animals & people to kill for any reason at all, that ANY behavior is ok. Most people mix religion with evolution in their thinking and choices and how they talk. Modern science has not yet proven how life began from non-life or where matter & energy came from, or how amazing body parts & systems happened. There is irresistible complexity in life that cannot have evolved by accident. But many doctors don't spend much time thinking about these things. They are focused on the now, helping people be healthier & live longer. If they would take some time to study the results of sin or obeying the God of the Bible, they would see that sin shortens life & obeying lengthens life & makes for much happier relationships with certain people important to them. Alienates others, but makes some relationships much better that couldn't have otherwise. Saved my marriage & helped my relationships with some family too. Helped my health as well. Very good dietary & lifestyle advice/commands in the Bible.

Grains are what my food eats. Enough said. The food I eat tastes better than the high carb stuff I used to eat.
