- Look, we'll be the first to admit when something is impressive, and the Deadbolt lock on these new knives is absolutely impressive. It is enormously strong and performed very well. Talk about a great competition! Watch the full video and don't forget to subscribe!
Testing performed by Andrew Demko.
Accidentally ran over my SR-1 while mowing and my John Deere exploded.
Both of these accounts joined one week ago. Beware of the scam above.
Fantastic demonstration. It's great to see Demko doing an honest test of the Deadbolt against his own Tri-Ad lock and not putting it down, but rather saying "We're very impressed with it's performance" and "The Deadbolt is enormously strong".
This is awesome, Cold Steel has a good additude about it and we get to see 2 great knives go head to head. The SR1 Lite is currently in my rn pocket so I am slightly biased. I would love to see the Ti-Lite 6 liner lock updated to keep the same great sleek look but with a lock that surpases its current state as that is my other favorite go to edc knife. Keep up the great work Cold Steel!
I don't think its possible to do the Ti Lite 6" or 4" because the blade set in the channel to far plus the quillions set up is a no no , so it would need a little bigger handle I would believe ,but you know Andrew lovers a challenge so I could be wrong.
First CRKT knife I like. CS products are in my collection in and out for 10+ years now so keep making good knives and I will buy them.
Andrew id like to see the Shark Lock vs the Triad Lock🤙🏽🤣🙏
Im a big fan of coldsteel but Im very impressed by the crkt deadbolt lock. Thx for the honest tests. 600 is way more then even a true hard core user will do with the knife. For me 1 thing im not the biggest fan about the tri-ad lock is that the action isnt very fun to play with for me.
Never had a CRKT deadbolt lock but if the lock is faster and easier to deploy it could be interesting. Idk. Edit: Oh well just looked it up. Seems also not very playable but they at least can make a flipper knife with the deadbolt lock. I would love to see your new shark lock on cold steel knives @Andrew Demko for the increase in knife-play-fun.
Well the cold steel tri ad lock isn't designed to be played with. It doesn't run on prissy ball bearings. Also you can make any tri ad lock from cold steel into a pocket wave knife using an aftermarket snaggletooth wave opener.

Exactly. Lockbacks are the tried and true workhorse locking mechanisms in the folder realm, and way less on the fidgety side.
Buy a fidget spinner
Respect to the Deadbolt lock! It didn't hold as much weight as the CS, but it is stronger than a lot of other folding knives out there. I have loved CS since my first Voyager in 2008, and of course my Recon 1. But I also own a Clever Girl and I enjoy the easy out/easy in of the Deadbolt lock without putting my fingers in path of blade, and ease of use with gloves on.
I do like the few CRKT knives I have, but i love the hundred or so Cold Steel knives, axes, tomahawks, koga's, spikes and swords i have.
Love the deadbolt lock, thanks for the honest text
I had a rajah iii (the smaller one) that just felt indestructible. Once I left it on top a stack of roof trusses we were cutting the straps off of on the job site and I thought I had lost it. Turns out that I had just left it on the stack and the lift driver had put another stack on top of it! Had to be thousands of pounds. I could see it sandwiched in there from the side and when we lifted the bundle up so I could grab the knife, it had been pressed into the wood so hard that I had to kind of hammer it out with a piece of dunnage that was laying around. Opened and closed perfectly fine with no noticeable damage at all! About 3 weeks later the little thumb plate thing broke off, at which point cold steel sent me another one right away. I have abused the living piss out of this knife for close to 8 years. It lived in my truck bed with a few other tools like hammers and wrecking bars, just rolling around in the rain, snow, and mud, and she never failed me once. I have finally cleaned it up really nice and reground the edge and it lives in the glove box now. Definitely earned its place there. I’m looking to buy another cold steel knife but don’t know which one. Any recommendations? I like the voyager and recon and the lawman but I really liked how the raja didn’t raise too many eyebrows on the job. Some of the black coated blades and models look militaryish or something? I haven’t seen all their models though
Cold steel sold me two knives with this video.
Just cant trust any other folder without a tri-ad lock.
XL Voyager tanto been with me since 2013, thank you sir.
Yep, same.
If I'm doing lite knife tasks, other lock designs won't matter much to me. When it comes to hard use jobs, I'll stick with the Tri-Ad lock. Everything else on the blade will fail before the lock gives out.
Wow! This was a great comparison.
What a way of presenting design quality and encouraging rigorous engineering design. Exquisite. Class. I am sold and buying your s35vn code 4 as my very first camping knife. Value and quality trumps everything else I looked at by a significant factor.
You'll soon be spoiled by the price and performance of Cold Steel products vs other costlier brands and customs, that mostly offer aesthetics and expensive materials with less reliability, and difficult to sharpen latest exotic steels.
The voyager in AUS-10A is such an amazing knife for the price.
@Леон Закарян idk whatever you prefer
And that’s why I have just about every flavor of Espada: 62NM, 62NL, 62NX, 62NGM, 62NGL, 62NGX, 62NGCM, 62NGCL, 62NGCX, 62NGMLV, 62NGMVB, 62NGLVB, 62NGLVF, 62NGXVF, 62NGMVG, 62NGLVG, 62NGXVG. along with the 62RM and the 62RN
Missing 62NCL, 62NCX, 62MB, 62MA, 62MGB, 62MGA, 62MGD, 62MGC.
I have the OG large and the updated large as well. If you can find someone else that collects more Espadas please send them to me.
You sir, are a madman!
Rational people like me only have one Espada but I have almost one of everything else to. Damn catalog!
I know one thing for sure. That pump truck is a beast! I have the AD-10, but it looks like I may need a backup like the sr1 lite tanto. Great demo as usual!
Back in the day on Spyderco forums we would talk about 800in/lbs like it was a lot.
The SR1 just did 2,160 and now I'm sitting here in awe of the 4Max Scout in my hands right now. Surely this thing would be at least 30% stronger. The 4Max has got to be nigh indestructible.
Just got the AD-10 and honestly going to get the SR1 Lite for when I travel outside the states. Thanks for the awesome knives!
Very few people have the strength to put 600 lbs of force on a knife with out using a cheater bar of some kind.
Both, I'm sure, will hold up em well in everyday use. I just bought the lynchpin so I could try out the dead bolt lock design. Got a deal at 39.95. Hope to soon add a tri ad lock to my collection. Thanks for the great video and stay sharp.
Very cool I was just talking about this test and there it is. Great work with the test and the appreciation of the deadbolt lock too.
I would like to see a test on the AD 10, please.
It's been done. The Cold Steel AD10 was tested to 885!!!
I'm not a huge fan of CRKT, but those advertising claims you printed of theirs aren't wrong. Their lock definitely did go toe to toe with the Triad lock, it just didn't win. They don't make a single knife that's better than ANY of yours, but you gotta hand it to them for doing a bang up job on that one.
I have the crkt seismic with the deadbolt lock and i have the ruby red Espada xl with the Triad lock. I can be almost certain both locks are more than will be necessary for me lol. Loved the honest comparison and testing
Y’all should make a fixed blade version of your famous Espada ! I would buy that.
Would love it 😍 🤙🏽
they kinda did, the marauder
I love watching these videos see the test on cold steel knives and other knives in most cases cold steel can't be beat Go cold steel🗡🔪
Wow! The Clever Girl, "ROCKS!" I have never seen any other 3.8mm Folder handle that much weight (585 ft lbs), except for the XL Espada. Flavio Ikoma's Deabolt, "ROCKS!!!" That's a massive amount of weight for any folder to hold. Flavio's design is a real Tri Ad Contender, in my opinion.
This makes it a proven Contender in my book... Now, I have proven faith in it... I know the Tri Ad won, ounce for ounce; that's not to be disputed. But, the Deadbolt is one of the easiest folding lock designs to use, operate, and clean, on the Market, today.
It puts the Axis Lock to shame; my other favorite lock type. And, is only second to the Tri Ad Lock; my other favorite lock type... And, I'll bet the Flavio Ikoma designed Seismic is even stronger than my favorite CRKT, SDUEDC, the Clever Girl. CRKT has a real awesome folding knife lock with the Deadbolt. Cold Steel, finally, has a real Competitor, now... Peace, Stiletto :-)
The Seismic should of been tested first against the Tri-Ad Lock. The Seismic was the knife that CRKT designed first to challenge Cold Steel's Tri-Ad Lock.
Just got the Silver Eye, my first folder by Coldsteel and first Demko ever.
My gosh now I’m curious how much my 20cv 4Max will hold. That things a beast!
We’ve tested them well over 800lbs.
@@csknives es acaso indestructible? I want that!
808. Probably more
@@csknives wish you guys made the ad10 in tanto
@@jonathangarzon2798 Well your wish is answered. Check the 2022 release!!!
For a flipper, I can't think of a better choice than the deadbolt lock.
I love Cold Steel. Best bang for your buck dependable knives on the planet. also like CRKT and the deadbolt. I just wish CRKT would up grade their blade steels. I have to ask AGAIN . Is there any plans for a Cold Steel automatic knife?
Amazing Great Job Andrew Demko and Cold Steel!!!
Tri-AD for the win!
Wow. Very impressive. I knew the sr-1 lite would win😎. Awsome video. Look forward to seeing what failed on the clever girl.
this is amazing, thank you for your work
I lile both types of locks, both are impressive
I guess the rest of the knife manufacturers are finally catching up with cold steel...sort of
This is liners vs no liners. An XL voyager would smoke this knife with it's nested liners.
That was very cool. And they respect other makers I like that. CRKT makes great stuff but Cold Steel is kinda on another level. I had a tuf lite I put through abuse I’m almost ashamed of lol.. fucker wouldn’t dull or break. I used to field trim GFRG and GFRC.. look that up if you’re not familiar.. stuff kills knives as quick as foam. Nothing could tough that thing.. ironically, I lost it.. or left it rather, on a scissor lift. So I’m sure someone else still uses that thing. Best $25 ever
I love the fully serrated voyager Tanto Blade you could cut off half an arm with that thing
Test the 4 max scout! Love to see how much weight that beast holds😁 mine is coming in the mail this week hopefully
how u like?!
Cool I love my Cold Steel Folders, and fixed knives.
I wish you guys would of done a wrapup at the end, showing us a closeup on what both knives looked like and where the deadbolt one failed. :/
The anticipation of this test was killing me. Thanks, good test.
Sorry, it's hard to make it short while not cutting anything out to ensure it's fair. Thanks for watching!
@@csknives, not a complaint, it was fun watching that knife snap. That was some serious weight! I like the videos y’all produce and knives you produce even more. 👍 😁 👊
Cold Steel are helping to advertise their competition. I'm now going to check out the CRKT Clever Girl.
ah yes, China River Knife and Tool... CRKT is trash
Please make a 3 inch blade Code 4 and an American Lawman with the old "Aus8a-style" rounded off G-10 handles. Thanks.
Why don't you buy the Air Lite preferably Tanto ???
@@angelheart7643 I have the drop point Air lite and I don't like it. The saber grind is to thick for me and the Air Lite also doesn't have the rounded corners on the G-10 from what I remember.
Whaaaat!? That ending! Good tasting. Like to have seen a edge strike test, with increasing weight and edge damage result. Think that's more real life. At what level of pressure do you have damage to the working portion of the blade. No one will ever put that much force on the handle of that blade. Test increased weight impact to the blade and or increased harness of the impacting object to at what point edge damage occurs. I have some testing ideas that be really exacting, easily calculatable results, be entertaining on video and hasn't been done broadcast to the public as far as I know.
Awesome but still got and super love the clever girl. Thanks bro
Nice video and very informative and very entertaining and very satisfaction more videos.
Awesome video! Have a Tuff Lite on the way.
I’m pumped up to watch this
Just remember these numbers are at 3" from the pivot not the usual 4", so multiply by 0.75 to get the equivalent weight at 4".
i am happy with all my cheap cold steel triad lock knives, ( pro lite all 3 modells, tuff lite ,minitufff, kiridashi, finn wolf all perfect. yesterday i got my 80 euro sr1 lite and it it a great knife but the finishing of the triad lock is bad, the corners are bad done. but trhe real problem is the blade play. now i have tryed to fix it but it does not work.its a shame i love ths knife
The Air Lite become my favorite. Such strong lock and super useful. Replaced the Paramilitary that I lost in the woods. Thinking about doing the SnaggleTooth modification on them!
I'm not that surprised ! but Wow a big winner.
I got this knife 🔪 because JoeX recommended it 👍. I figured if it passed his fitness test, it has to be bad ass.😊
This video is beyond excellent.
Great BANG for your buck!
Best tests🤘👏👏👏👏👏
Damn! That was ridiculously impressive. At less than a dollar per ten kilo increment.
Just amazing engineering! well done both but my next purchase is the Sr1 lite!
Nice ending
That was just the SR1 and I'm holding a 4Max Scout right now.
Surely this thing would do over 3,000in/lbs of force (multiply weight by distance from pivot to get Inch/Pounds of torque, the SR1 did 2,160).
Where demko says this half the price that made me cringe cuz your looking at a 8cr13mov blade and griv x scales. The crkt has d2 and g10. But you also can't say a knife is more worth based on unrealistic lock tests.
Since everyone’s making Christmas wishes, I’d love a Micro Recon with a pocket clip, and a mini recon in 204p/390/20cv with carbon fiber scales. DLC.
Lookin good. Can't wait for my code 4 to get here
I wish you guys would do the benchmade adamas. Really get tired of hearing benchmade fanboys talk about the brand im a fanboy of. An if you could two part crush one of these supposed overbuilt ridiculous priced knifes like strider. I don't understand how you can say something is overbuilt an have a frame lock ( which is a fancy liner lock, in my opinion)
Any way great video glade we put that to rest. I wouldn't by over priced crkt any way
I've posted this question several times, apparently they won't do the Adamas
@@THEZOMBIEBUNKER I figure the more we ask they can’t over look us forever
We'll see what we can do.
@@csknives that’s all we can ask for. You guys are awesome
Demko Triad is 👑
I already love my regular SR1, are you going to have the "lite" models in OD green? Cold Steel is amazing!
Congratulations to cold steel on an astonishing performance, and congratulations to CRKT also, don't know of any lock that can come close to the tri ad.
Definitely hats off to them.
@@csknives still undefeated though 😜
Just convinced me
Loving my AD20.5 man! After my large grip was stolen I decided to grab a Demko. The lock up is so solid on this thing…I’d love to see some torture and strength tests. How do you think the shark lock compares to the tri-ad in strength?
Досмотрел видео из уважения к Андрюхе! По-моему и так понятно кто здесь reliable knife.
I have The sr1 lite. it is a great edc knife. Its heavy duty but feels very maneuverable. Unfortunately it came with front to back and side to side play. which worries me. Then , I just bought a Rajah 3 , which is incredible but has the same issue with front to back and side to side play out of the box even after adjusting the pivot. It is very worrying, I will continue to buy cold steel though, but if another ones comes with this issue I will have to consider moving on from Cold Steel. Two not solid lock ups in a row might be a coincidence but a third.... well have to see.
You guys ever though of making a polypropylene Shakuhachi flute like with city stick or African walking stick? The Japanese flute Shakuhachi is meant to be used as an instrument but also as a blunt weapon. Thought y'all need some ideas that's all but it'll be lovely if you guys can :))
Might be almost the same strength, but the price is where the disparity is.
That was pretty intense !
I'm returning a Cold Steel SR1 Lite and a Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 because its too hard for me to close the blades with the triad lock. I'm pressing down and on the triad lock mechanism and the darn things won't release. I've never had this problem with a CRKT knife. I was really excited to get both knives until I found it was too hard to use them.
Maybe you have weak hands
Should have compared to a large g-10 espada with steel nested liners to be fair. Liners will always be stronger.
I'm taking this is the highest ever because of the 3" placement. So what would 585lbs be if we're at 4" instead of 3"?
I wish cold steel made a locking mechanism that wasn't a lockback.. I've owned alot of cold steel knives and I still go back to button locks and compression locks for quick 1 handed convenience ..I would sacrifice that strength for ease of use.. jmo.. I still have cold steel as my prep and get home kits though..P.S.. bring back the TALWAR XL and the HOLDOUT...
I Came from Nyanners video uwu >
So what was the final weight on the sr1 lite?!?…. The tri ad is still TOP DOG BACK LOCK, HELL BEST KNIFE LOCK PERIOD!!!!
Pretty bang on even to me!!
Awesome knife awesome lock tank of a knife sr1 lite I own that knife awesome
Почему на ваших тестах ножи Cold Steel не ломаются?
Please, make Recon 1 clip point with flipper.
Great Scott! Every return swing of that blade on the pendulum is giving me anxiety! All I see is that fuckers fingers disappearin’. You got balls, sir.
my guess is that it didn't break but they ran out of space on the tube
I’d like to see microtech lock test against cold steel
How is the pro lite sport compared to this? Thanks guys
The Tri ad lock cannot be copied correct .. I mean other knife makers cannot copy it
Correct.
What's the point? If u stab someone and hit a bone even the $10 knives won't close on your fingers
But what happened to the CRKT? Why can't you show the Tri-Ad lock failing?
Because it was a test against the other knife, not ultimate failure, just a test on which was strongest.
bro the impact test looks dangerous
Thought Robot that’s what I was thinking
OH SH1T!1!1!1!1! Yash
Over strike?
Custom scales for the Ranch Boss II! 😱
Wonder what fail on the dead bolt?
I want to see a Triad Lock break just so I know it physically can.
What only 720lbs, I hope my "non lite SR1 in S35VN" is better, lol
