Thank you Donut! Something I've been doing is making sure to subscribe to the channels and content I really resonate with, and then just scrolling the sub feed for the most part. That way, it's not this infinite scroll, and you already have some intention on what you want to watch or see from your favorite creators. The whole ecosystem is now all front page which definitely impacts the type of content people are making. It's a great way to discover new and cool things, but I find myself infinitely refreshing the page searching for things to watch.

I agree. It’s one of the reasons why I deleted all other social media apps: infinite scrolling. I figured (back then) UA-cam wouldn’t be an issue, but I still find myself doing the same. I need to put effort into stopping the cycle here as well.

as someone who is chasing the content creator dream... can definitely say it SUPER easy to fall victim to all the digital pitfalls in todays media landscape... but intentionality is becoming a bigger and bigger part of my life... im a huge visual/to-do list guy, so if i can visually set task/goals for the day/week that i want to achieve... even outside of gaming and social media... it leaves me with such a fulfilling feeling to actually be able to pick things and commit to doing them... make a plan ,stick to it, adjust if you need and enjoy your life... Great Video :)

Ironically enough, I had even less time for gaming as a kid. My parents were strict with my time allowed for gaming, no more than one hour if it was a school day, and only 2, maybe 3 hours on free days. And during high school, my high school was pretty far away, so I was arriving home kinda late, and because of that the only thing I really had time for was homework. So basically, I was rarely playing during school days then, mainly just on weekends and vacations.
Nowadays, I just get home from work and have the rest of the day to do whatever I want, no more homeworks and studying and crap.

I am def addicted to scrolling youtube. it takes up alot of mental space. I try to justify it by watching videos in regards to my other hobbies like UE5/Blender but its really just the same kind of time waste unless I'm actually doing something. I want to try to get myself to either a more stringent time I should/can watch it or how long I'm allowed to once I start but I'm still working on that and its hard lol. Great video.

Scrolling is indeed a big problem I just don't use most of the social media apps. For youtube, I just add all I wanna watch to my watch later and then come to those videos later and a lot of the time I just don't wanna watch that video anymore so I just remove them and move on

That watch later idea is brilliant, I need to get better at that. I've been focusing more on watching content from my sub box as the infinite scroll doesn't exist there. I can at a glance see pretty much all the things posted that day from the creators I really like. Thank you!

I too often forget that most of my childhood was spent outdoors with friends, back in the 90's we loved MTB Trail riding, hiking adventures in the local forests and playing music in bands with close friends at the time.
In recent years I've also moved away from social media, with UA-cam and Reddit being the only exceptions. For YT, my subs mainly focus on the few games that I enjoy, channels on history, science and anthropology; the Reddit subs are similar.
Likewise, in the last few years I've been playing games where I can have conversations with friends opposed to "spawn, die, spawn, die" then someone logs off because they 'aren't feeling it tonight' - this is great since most close friends live in different countries and it's a better alternative to a phone call.
Nowadays we play games like DayZ, terraria, and more recently we started playing NMS and 7 days to die again. With DayZ especially, it can often feel like we're heading off for a 4 hour hiking expedition and the conversations are fantastic.
Thanks for the video btw, helps bring these thoughts to the forefront and appreciate things in life now, and in the past ❤.

    I had a great week!
I just came back from a vacation with my mother, my brother, my aunt and my two cousins.
Everyday we woke up at around 9am, ate breakfast and then went hiking from around 11am to 6pm, after which my cousin asked if we could play on my Steam Deck that I brought with me.
So I set up the Steam Deck in the TV room that our accommodation had, with an older LCD TV with glaring backlight bleeding.
Mind you, I have a OLED monitor and bought the Steam Deck OLED, yet I didn't mind the old TV, because we where just there to have fun, and honestly, I didn't even notice the backlight that much while gaming, only when we watched a movie did I wind the backlight to be annoying
I found that the old TV even hid the lower resolution or wonky performance in some games.
Even my big brother, who I used to watch while he played when I was a child, sat down next to me and just watched me play.
It was a fun role reversal, especially since I often watched him play Resident Evil 4 on the PS2, and he asked me about the Remake, so I played the Resident Evil 4 Remake on the Steam Deck.

Great video man! You should do another video drilling deeper into this topic. My buddies and I have been talking about this same thing lately, how we like to think that all we did was game when we were young and that's what made being young so fun.
But in reality, we biked around the neighborhood, played with Nerf blasters, played pokemon and yugioh, watched cartoons, etc. We really weren't "gamers." We did all kinds of things, and that's what made life so fun as a kid. Gaming was just a piece of it, not the whole thing. As adults we selectively remember just gaming as the highlight of childhood. Anyways man, you should expand on that in a video!

What a great video, you perfectly articulated my thoughts on all of this. The gaming landscape is so different than it was 10+ years ago, and it’s difficult to just naturally and organically meet people and game with them.
I’m not sure if you already have one and I’m just unaware of it but I really feel like you should make a Discord where we can join and just have our own community. I’ve noticed people here seem so much more mature and it could be a really cool thing to have. Idk, just a thought, not sure if others agree.

Xbox currently has a great deal on some games. I’ve picked up sekiro, all bioshocks, all metros, Witcher 3 for like 60-70$. I’m set for a looong time. I still play when I can with friends. But it’s hard to get everyone together most of the time

Hey Dragoon, I really vibe with these new kinds of videos and especially this one. The older you get the more you become aware of TIME, and from the past year I was so cautious about spending my time effectivley, I forget to appreciate my time when gaming. I would be so focused on what task would be more benificial in the game for my time, I forgot to learn to enjoy the small moments you have. You see, when your younger you dont have a decent grasp on time and so you feel super free with anything you do, and also less responsabilities, but thats why at least I did, enjoyed absolutley everything and anything I did in games haha. With saying all this, Yes understanding that our time is precious on this earth is important, but dont let it ever stop you finiding your enjoyment, whether that be in video games or just life in genral. Death is the only guarantee we have in life, so enjoy every moment you have :)

Overstimulation is something that’s creeping up to me and it’s incredibly annoying. I find myself looking to put on a UA-cam video while getting ready early in the morning and it’s just so unnecessary and I feel like a damn iPad kid lmao.
But my entire friend group all finished college last year and it’s been really hard to get us all on and aligned on the same game at once. We seem to all be settling onto trying Overwatch 2 which is nice because it’s the only game that fits our needs (cross play / progression, multiplayer, and easy to get into). Has anyone else tried to find a game that can basically reunite the friend group?

    • @BBKDRAGOON
      @BBKDRAGOON  4 місяці тому +3

I'm guilty of that too, when cooking, or cleaning, or doing most tasks, I try to put a video on in the background, usually I waste time looking for something to watch, and then get distracted with my task. Lately to counter that I've been trying to put on focus music or piano music, and just use that as a nice background. As far as games the unite the group, that's a tough one, definitely dependent on the friend group, the platforms, etc. OW2 sounds fun though with friends. I miss OW1, and actually had some good times with OW2.

  • @rapmetaldemon09

I feel you on this man. Another big part is...yes. I do think it's more important to get time in with your friends than it is to prioritize the specific game that you're going to be playing. Yet as I get older, I feel the games other people want to play are games I do not enjoy as much as they do. Also, they don't budge if I recommend playing something else. If I want to hop into an Apex group with them and play they are happy I'm there and don't care if I'm not that good. However I am not having a good time for the most part, and it feels bad to be running this game I suck at and have no real desire to put practice time into. It makes it worse because I don't actually have any recommendations myself other than old games like Halo that they likely will never care to touch again. All this has also made me wonder if gaming has always been the only glue keeping many of my relationships together, and that the motivation to get together kind of fades if the central game that we're engaged with at the time isn't something we all actually enjoy. Things were definitely easier in the 360 days. No convoluted ways of starting voice calls. To join a game you just accept an invite. Most people just used a standard controller without cross-play and we didn't have to worry as much about having the optimum gaming gear. Just use whatever came with your system you picked up from best buy or whatever. Call me old, and tell me that all that sounds obsolete and horrible to you but to me the accessibility was what brought the big numbers into console gaming. The even playing field we were all on (except for those with unfairly low ping back then) made the competition feel fierce and legitimate, and the barrier for entry was extremely low. Sorry for waxing on for so long but once I started it just kept coming lol. Great video and long live the golden age of Halo.

I've been doing a couple things to practice more intentionality.
Mainly I've been giving myself alternatives to games that don't click with me. It can be really easy to have 10 different survival crafting, or souls-like, or metroid-vania stacked up in your library. So instead of playing something like No Mans Sky or Astroneer, I would instead be playing Valheim, Enshrouded, or Palworld
Another thing I'm doing (when I have the money) is to start getting excited for new releases and doing Day 2 with review purchases. In the age of backlogs we kid ourselves and say hype isn't important because we can always play later, but if you had the option wouldn't you play a game on release? isn't that the preventative measure of a backlog that you can play things when they come out?
Finally keep up with games updates, for me this is about Overwatch 2 adding 6v6 back I'm going to be there day 1, and friends will be too.

@1:55 i will take it a step further..... I actually really really miss the days before Xbox Party Chat even existed. I miss going into any game and the lobby was constantly popping off with people talking non-stop. youd get friend requests frequently. After they introduce Part Chat feature people kept using in-game chat for id say another 2-3 years. but then fell off almost entirely. this might be a hottake..... but i genuinely hate the introduction of Party Chat on consoles.... Heck back in 1999 on PC even tho we had Teamspeak, Xfire, and Ventrillo people still preferred game chat OR could easily swap between chat channels. in this day and age of Discord and Party Chat game lobbies are so dead -.-
