I think this is my favourite video on UA-cam and always watch it prior to the omm. Love how the weather is warm and pleasant and everyone is enjoying themselves. You turn up to the omm in the dark and invariably it is cold, raining or even snowing. Even if it’s none of them the not will be windy and foggy.
Lots of friends in this video who I ran with in training and lots of events. It's great to see tbe development of kit and later to be involved in that development. The event has changed over tbe years. This video and the other one still inspires me now all these years on. I am glad I had some involvement in this.
Although the lakes have always been popular, it is so good to see it from a time I remember it as far less intensely busy than it now is. Also good to see Karrimats! I still have and use mine.
There are still plenty of Karrimats out there! Though the fells are undoubtedly busier at times, it hopefully means more people discovering the benefits of the outdoors and the reasons to protect it... having said that, its always nice making an early (or late!) start to find a quiet corner of the hills all to yourself!
@@Theomm As a former Scout and Cub leader I have introduced the hills and the outdoor life to many - some are now fully-fledged ML qualified and still stop and thank me for teaching them navigation. Long, long may the tradition of walking, hiking and camping stay with us, and I hope that we foster in others a love for being in the wild places.
You might want to update the title guys, the maps are for the central and eastern fells and named Helvellyn and the event starts and finishes in Troutbeck, mid way in Boredale and on Boredale Hause... loving the Elite Camp, nice and remote

Glad you enjoyed it! Here's hoping for similar conditions at the end of the month!
