Literally the day after I curated a viewing of the film "The House Where Evil Dwells", which uses this exact technique to GREAT effect, I see this incredible step-by-step breakdown of not only the physical principles behind the effect, but how to utilize it at a scale from "business presentation teleprompter" to "major motion picture studios spent millions to figure this out". Fantastic video!
What a great idea. I would never have thought of that. Thank goodness for people with experience. Now I can have something to replace my notebook and hopefully look somewhat more professional. Thanks Markus!
Fun with glass! These old film studio tricks are great and they still work. Yeah, they have limitations, but they are fun when used judiciously. Thanks for the reminder, Markus, have a great rest of your day!
I got hooked on old school techniques watching movies on tv in the 60's. Hitchcock's Saboteur, or Rear Window and especially the self destructing merry-go round in Strangers On A Train. That blew my mind. I was reading Raymond Fielding's The Technique of Special Effects Cinematography in 1966 when I was 15. I figured even then if I could clearly explain the Dunning-Pomeroy self matting process to my dog, I was learning how to learn. (You don't know something until you can teach it to someone else....) By the way, the slide duping camera we had in our custom lab in the 80's had a little bulb and a 45 degree piece of glass that lowered the contrast by flashing the taking film during copying...
That's so cool!!!!!!! I love learning about special effects, foley, etc etc. I'm the girl who watches the behind the scenes stuff !!!! Thanks , Markus and Cara!
I love your ingenuity Markus. Thanks for sharing! I have no interest in ever recording talking heads, but its fun to see the movie magic that happens behind the scenes.
I just started making instructional tutorials for my business and realized remembering my script is really difficult for someone with no acting experience. Next I found a way to mount my laptop on a tripod with a platform I made right over top of the camera. It worked but it's a lot of stuff and I'm not looking directly at the camera. Figured I'd watch some youtube videos and of course yours is the best one as usual. Thanks for making this even though it may not be as popular as product videos a lot of us really appreciate when you talk about more obscure subjects.
I'm captivated with just the shirt! Cool tricks! My nephew is in an Arts high school and makes short films. Anyhow I'm always sharing your video's with him. Your video's could be used in a lot of classrooms for sure! Thanks for sharing!
Cool. I will check out teleprompter pro. Love that voice listening feature. Great throwback t-shirt. I grew up watching the six million dollar man. I still have in my head the sound effect whenever he was running or jumping.
Great video Markus. I guess turning the light off and adjusting it with a radial control can slowly make her appear. Even better usage in that manner. Great effect.
Love the ol' skool effects Mr. Markus. Used to love creating video-feedback with the camera pointing a 'live feed' back to the monitor. Thanks for the emories.
Thanks Markus and Cara, I was about to build a teleprompter myself, but will now use some of your construction methods. Some great ideas there. I was going to use a flat screen TV laid flat and connected to the 2nd display screen output of my laptop. New Smart TV monitors have come a long way and are more than adequate for this use. A bit cheaper than PC monitors of the same size too. Your "ghost" trick is something that I will be trying too.
Hi folks, that very effective theatrical ghost illusion known as 'Pepper's Ghost' is quite old. There's a good article about it on a well known Wicki. Dates from 1862 and would originally have used limelight for the lighting needed, moving on to the carbon arc filament lamps later. Still surprisingly effective even in these days of CGI. Much used in some Shakespearean theatre based plays involving ghostly apparitions - Julius Caesar and Macbeth spring to mind. It has a 3D impact and the characters can interact with the ghost as Carla shows. I'd like to thank Markus as well for his effective and cheap application to teleprompting.
Cool tip at the end. I have actually tried to make a glass hologram before but with a projector and special film for the glass. It was a nightmare and I never did finish it. The projector and its throw distance and key stoning requirements for it to work in a reasonably sized package were virtually impossible to make with basic off the shelf parts😅
This is a very insightful and helpful video. Thanks for the behind the scenes show and tell. Your lovely assistant the mahvelous Cara just makes life so much better on UA-cam. :) Markus you are the man. Appreciate your time and energy as always. I learn something EVERYTIME I watch one of your videos. Literally one of the best teachers on the net. Bar none.
love the T-Shirt - that takes me back "Steve Austin, a man barely alive, we have the technology to rebuild him, better, stronger faster - the world's first bionic man"
Great stuff! I have a laptop with 2nd 15.5" USB-C monitor. I found a perfect stand for my external monitor for $25 and ordered a Neewer 17" teleprompter tempered glass replacement for $34 along with a $5 yard of black fabric. So far I'm only $70 into this and after I design the 3D printed parts to support the glass at 45 degrees while also supporting some fabric to drape across it, I should be done :)
Wow . . . First! Lol, this is my first . . . err . . . first to comment moment! Now if I could just think of something momentous to say . . . sigh . . . guess not. Thanks for making the video. That ghost effect is sweet; I'll keep the idea in my kit bag for maybe Halloween or something!
I just kept hearing the sound effects in my head after seeing your t-shirt...lol. A great place to get glass is from a thrift store. Shop their framed print and photo frames section...
I am looking for options to install a teleprompter app to an e-reader, because im often struggling with reading the screen of my ipad when outdoors. This seems to be unconventional, to say the least. But it seems like such a huge benefit to be able to read off an e-reader screen instead an ipad screen, with reflections and stuff. It would be awesome if you could figure this out and make a video about Markus, seems like a challenge you are the right person for, being so unconventional and experimental. Thanks for all your awesome content!
Once again Markus you have taught me something very interesting and helpful, Is there no end to your wisdom and talents??? I should as your better half Cara 🥰, thank you once again for sharing your creative nuggets !!!
Ha, loved that bonus at the end. Love those silly interactions. BTW, you had me wondering about that gray background. I was thinking, I don't know if I have ever seen Markus on a solid background. Then after you brought that youtuber background in I was like Ahh, green screen. Question, was the green screen actually green or like a little yellowish. I was noticing some fringing but it looked more yellow than green. Off topic, but I was just curious.

Literally exactly what I was looking for. A massive teleprompter. Dude your channel is so underrated it's unreal!!!
What a great idea. I would never have thought of that. Thank goodness for people with experience. Now I can have something to replace my notebook and hopefully look somewhat more professional. Thanks Markus!

Thanks for the video Markus! And great T shirt by the way. Steve Austin. My favourite 70's show!
Markus, thank you for all the advice and how-to's. You're the best. Still hoping one day you'll adopt this 33yrl old dude 😭🙏🏼

Foam core everything! I almost blew green smoothie out my nose when you said that!

That hologram effect is the solution I was looking for--and didn't know it. Thank you. That was really great.
your enthusiasm over foam core is infectious! it's delicious too.

Love the teleprompter information. Thank you
You guys are fun.. I subscribed and watch you all the way from down under.
Great video Markus.
I guess turning the light off and adjusting it with a radial control can slowly make her appear. Even better usage in that manner. Great effect.
Thanks. Markus. Teleprompter Pro looks like a cool app. I like how it's automatic with your speaking.
Great video, it reminds me of the Pepper's Ghost effect, which is used in the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland and Disneyworld.
A clever trick! I had no idea a teleprompter was so simple.
Love the ol' skool effects Mr. Markus. Used to love creating video-feedback with the camera pointing a 'live feed' back to the monitor. Thanks for the emories.
You are fantastic, really helpful and practical with it. Well done and thank you for your informative and entertaining video.
Greetings from S.A.
Danke Markus, Wie immer sehr intersant!
Practical effects are way more fun. 👍👍Good teleprompter info too.
Nice to see the Lumix PZ 14-42... love that and the PZ 45-175.

Hello Markus, I have the problem that I can't get the monitor mirrored on the Mac. Did you find any software for this? Schöne Grüße aus Hannover.
I love this channel
Beautiful 💕
Probably will not ever need to use it, but that was fun nevertheless. Thanks Markus :-)
Can you reveal anything about your motivation for tutoring the free world, going through the effort to structure these lessons?
Markuspix at its finest!
I had the Six Million dollar man toy. I also have some episodes on laser disc. LOL
Fun and entertaining. Was your ghost named Pepper? :)

This technique was used in "Home Alone" when Harry's head gets burned with the blowtorch.
but you need a beamsplitter glass ??
Without it you will get doubling of the lines and that will make you barf
