Model Railroad Update 69: Fascia work, Scenery in Wallace Junction
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 тра 2016
- We were able to get the gaps behind the fascia filled and scenery added to blend everything together. We used Great Stuff foam insulation spray and it worked well. In other area Fast and Final was used, everything was sanded, painted and ground foam added.
Scenery work was started in Wallace Junction- initial ground layers and ballasting of the branch line yard and a portion of the main line.

Great job with the Great Stuff. Your attention to detail is awesome!!........ Kevin
It's really coming together. That foam stuff worked great.
Some really great progress. Enjoying your series very much.
Looking good. Thanks for posting.
Great layout Stephen....cheers, Chris
This is coming up amazing.
Terrific work as usual. Boy, I wish I could get as much done as you seem to. I really need to get my rear into gear........David(UK)
+MrChoochoo Dave- yeah, I am pushing- once the nicer summer weather gets here the work on the layout slows considerably. I just can't be inside when it is so nice out. It also provides a little break, so that layout burnout doesn't set in!
To cut the Great Stuff, I made a couple of saws, welding handles to two old Sawzall blades, a wood blade and a metal blade, The wood blade will cut through a lot of foam in a hurry, then you can "fine tune" it with the metal blade.
those foam pieces would make good Snow Caps on mountains if you have any on the layout especially in the background
Really coming along looks great keep up the good work
I use the foam for windows. It doesn't expand as much with less pressure so the boards with not move. I also keep the foam pieces for scenery around the layout.

May I suggest painting the fascia "BLACK", I found this to be the best colour to use.
You probably should used one of those knives that you got the track with i forgot the name. Looks like you used a steak knife haha hope you didnt rip the fascia up. Looks good though Rob the gaps are nice and filled and once you put some grass on them it will look almost perfect.
+Matt Jenkins (vwgolfer187) Thanks...and no fascia was harmed in the filming of this update!
haha nice
If you use the low or non-expananding foam you might get better results
The layout looks great , with the gaps filled. You said a couple videos back you ordered some scenery stuff from western Canada did you get it finally? Also how much is a sheet of the pink foam & what size doe's it come in, 4x8?
Keep up the great work.

+Al Jaster Yes, the scenery items from Euro Rail Hobbies did arrive, after two weeks. For the pink foam, price likely is location dependent, search for extruded polystyrene or foam insulation board. Around us Lowes doesn't sell the pink or blue stuff, but some other green stuff I don't like as much, so get the pink at Home Depot. We get 4x8 sheets.
Looking great :) @ 10:25 I noticed you had some joint plates on the rail, when did you put them on and have you done that everywhere?
+Neale Beresford They were put on quite a while ago. They are not everywhere, just on the spur track in Wallace Junction. Some more may be added in very visible, up front locations but we have no plans to add them on the entire layout!
