Now this is much better than the 2016 logo-less live-action idents, and these new idents were look similar to the Universal TV idents and the old Channel 5 idents from March 2002-September 2002.

Now, this is more like it. The era of logo-less idents has officially ended, it seems. Some interesting work at Channel 4, even if they ultimately didn't succeed. But Channel 5's were terrible. Just 5 random same things. Too abstract. In an ocean of multi channels, the brand needs to be bold and clear. Which is where these idents have taken it. Despite the colour changes and slight variations in the way the 5 forms, it's basically one ident. Is that a good thing? Maybe. I've said before that you have to think about the golden age of TV. Each channel had just one ident running at any one point in time. The greats, Thames, LWT, Anglia, ATV, even the BBC. One ident which burned into you retina and associated it with every programme they made. So maybe one simple, uncomplicated ident (In essence) is the best way to go? These new 5 idents remind me of both the Central Cake and the original Channel 4 ident. Maybe a little boring? Well, perhaps. I think a stronger, more memorable tune may have been helpful. But I get what they're going for, with both ambient sound and vision to drift behind the announcer's voice and take you gently into the next programme without bombarding you with too much information. They may not be earth shattering, but perhaps it's time to stop trying to find completely new ways of doing idents? If a spark of genius innovation ignites, fine. But if not, stick to what's proven to work. I like these. They're not spectacular, but that's why I like them.
