Conrad got boo'd by the home crowd for dropping an over the shoulder basket catch in his first ever home playoff game. No doubt it got him shook the rest of the game.
He shouldn't have even been in that situation. It should have been Heywards' ball. But maybe he was still shaken up from the wall crash the play before.
He botched a groundball on a potential double play earlier in the game and booted a routine groundball in game 1 also. Felt bad for him but the guy was a liability on defense
Fontenot was one of the few Giants across the years I just never understood. I didn't outright dislike the guy, but he was never a particular favorite. Nothing against him, he didn't do anything personally, I just wasn't a fan. Also, I think we tend to forget how good Jonathan Sanchez was. He often gets lost in the mix of talks of Timmy and Cain, Zito (regardless of how you thought of him) and even a young, emerging Bumgarner; but Sanchez held his own. Good Giant, crucial in that 2010 win.
Sanchez just lost his ability to pitch with not only diminished velocity, but lack of control. His control was never amazing, but it was good enough to fool hitters.
And Fontenot was like a slightly worse Tomlinson. A guy who can play all positions and hit for contact. With Sandoval doing so bad in 2010 and Renteria being injured a lot of 2010, they had to juggle with Fontenot at 3rd on certain games.
He was one of those pitchers who would be top 5 in the league on a given night or act like hes never touched a baseball mound. 2010 was more of the top 5 in the league type of pitcher he could become, but he lost that consistency which led to his downfall. Crazy to think now that we got Melky for him, but in reality, the trade at the time was pretty even and this game explained it. If it had of worked out for the royals, we may faced him in 2014.
I feel kinda bad for Omar Infante. The Giants ended his season in the playoffs in 2010, 2012, & 2014. The latter 2 in the world series. He never won a World Series after a 15 year career. Wouldnt be surprised if he hated SF
I remember being so scared when Romo gave the homer to Hinske. Thank god for Conrad having a bad game in the field or else we probably would've lost or at least had to go to the wire in a Game 5. The Braves were probably the hardest team to beat in those playoffs cause of their amazing pitching in the rotation and bullpen.
BEtween this and the 9th inning comeback in Washington years later... man they had some amazing games. This was the game I thought they could win it all. Should have been down 2-1 but pulled it out

This and game 6 of the 2010 NLCS were the two must win games the Giants had that postseason. They won both of them
