You have been all over my house during this podcast. I dumped the junk in the refrigerator and put away clean dishes. I filled my pill boxes for the week and cleaned out my purse. I also rounded up the dirty dishes and started a shopping list. And I have the ingredients out for making French Waffles - more on that later.
Whenever I have a task I don't want to do, I find one of your videos to watch while I'm doing it, so it makes it easier to do the disgusting thing.
Give your craft supplies to senior centers or nursing homes. They will love it. I have some phone wire from my husband's jobs that I'm giving to girls who make bracelets and maybe other jewelry. Free supplies for them! I also keep my clean egg cartons for my young friends who raise chickens and sell the eggs. Free packaging for them! Finally, I give away my firewood to the neighbors because the woodstove is their only heat source and they can sure use it. I can't burn the wood due to COPD according to my doctor.
If you think hard enough your trash can be someone's treasure.

I love it that you said this is who I am, I am a mom… That’s my very heart and soul as well. It feels kind of scary when your kids leave home, but then the grandchildren come, and you realize all over again, this is who I am. Grandma - I was a good mom, but I’m a pretty awesome Grandma❤️

THANK YOU!!! This sounds silly, but because you gave me permission, I am on a declutter & trash kick ( I can throw things away like the good boxes)- 10 trash bags out and a truckload for donation :) You are inspirational in decluttering. Once my house is back, I can go back to recycling. I have a long way to go, but every little bit out helps! Thank you again.

I’m dealing with long COVID and everything seems overwhelming to tackle with - although I am one of the lucky ones who can walk and even work a bit. Not procrastinating is key for my everyday life and helps me to stay on top of things; -ish, that is, and honestly, I get help from sweet people, but there still is enough to do for me. So thank you, dear, wise Cass, for stressing the point of “do it now, if you can”, future me is always so happy about things she hasn’t left to do. Does this make sense? Brainfog is 🤬

Ok so I got delayed by two events this morning and I was just able to get back to my bathroom and do just a bit of cleaning (Flybaby person). And I found you and Dana through the Minimal Mom. I’ve listened over and over and over but never actually did stuff with the person. All the stuff helped me so much but I have to do on my own in quiet till today. Because I had to finish up, I did it with you. It worked. Had some work done in my bathroom and had to get it back in order. Taking me forever till now. Thank you Cas.

I ate up the last couple of my Japanese candies - yay for natural decluttering - while going through this past year of payslips & bank statements, filing them properly, and then shredding the oldest year of them. It's usually something i like to do in April - with the tax year changeover - but I'd been procrastinating it 🤭
(We're renters, so landlords like to see a couple of years of financial proof you can pay rent, UK).
TLDR: An inch stack of paperwork is leaving 🥳
... Also managed to get a few expired makeup & skincare products off my dresser so that's a bonus; both visually now AND avoiding the breakouts they can cause in future 😊
... And now I'm gonna find another "declutter with me" video to make more progress on other items/rooms 🤭

The identity clutter is a big thing for me. I identify as a reader. My UA-cam channel and indeed my entire social media presence is centered on that identity but I don’t have the time to read all the books I own because I’m a mom now. This podcast is motivating me to accept the reality of my current identity. Some of the books I acquired in the past few years aren’t even books I want to keep anymore so they are clutter now. Thanks, Cas. I hadn’t thought about it quite like that before

I love listening to you cas, your so good at making me realise that I have to much craft stuff , but it's so hard to get rid of things as I know it will cost me later , ....but....I know how much this is going to save my life once I can overcome my anxiety attacks. So I know you said do it now while I'm listening to you, and that would be cool unfortunately it's late at night here in th U.K and I'm more motivated in the morning, and now that I'm moving home it feels like it might be easier, it takes me a long time as I'm disabled and in my late 60s. Thanks Cass, I needed this push today. Have been decluttering for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I went through sentimental cards and letters and filled a black bin bag - actually leaving space in my underbed storage box! But my identity clutter is something I haven't really pondered. I'm a creative so have all the bits and bobs and although I went through my crafting supplies 3 times already, I now realise there are a handful of additional items that I really don't need. There's more I could donate, definitely, so I'll be jumping on that tomorrow. (I was going through my finances while listening to you today! :-) Wishing you a wonderful rest of your weekend.

I find if I just start with the smallest of tasks, like going through one drawer, it gives me a sense of accomplishment and it makes me want to do more. @staroftheseathelaundryroom6799 3 місяці тому +3

Cass I’m very similar to you in the sense that I shop for my fantasy self more then my reality life, one thing I’ve found to do is to think of others when I see something that makes something desired easier. Example: My in-laws were wanting to set up a play room for their grandchildren one thing they needed were size appropriate containers to store toys in, now when I’m on my phone or out in town if I find a toy organizer for a good deal I let them know. If I find something I can actually use I already have to have the space cleaned out and ready for it to be used, otherwise I don’t let myself get it.
My oldest child loves to play with their toys, but can have a hard time cleaning up before moving on to a new toy set, I wanted to start doing the container method for most of the toys but I didn’t want the idea to flop on it’s face, instead I started with cardboard boxes and put most of the toys away, when my child wants a new toy (going from blocks to a character themed or dress up toy blocks) they have to put current toys away completely and correctly before the new toy can come out.
That went very well for 1 month and then I felt ready to let myself make a “big investment” into something my fantasy self wanted, now it’s no longer my fantasy self but my reality self. If it hadn’t worked with the cardboard boxes I wouldn’t have made the investment in the quality storage containers but my child is now putting away toys by themselves before requesting a new toy be gotten out.

I was having troubles about 3 months ago, couldn't sleep, and rearranged my kitchen cabinets, getting rid of lots of stuff. My apartment is so small, and I have so much furniture and shelving units, that walking through it is like walking in a brook! It's not safe or sane! I love the concept of "Future me"!!! I am also pretty unattached from my true likes and dislikes, like you mentioned as Fantasy Clutter! It could be I get think I think I should, instead of doing something more creative. Maybe the true test would be, could I make something of value with it (financial or sentimental) or actually sell the stuff? Also, my new plan is to simplify to what I use and really 💕 love

25:00 For me a lot of the clutter I had was books and other things that belonged to my brother. After he died no one really wanted any of it but no one wanted to throw it away and I ended up with most of it because even if they did take something - they handed it over to me a few years later as the memory carrier. It took me decades to get rid of those things. It is an identity and because he is gone, emotionally I question myself a million time before I throw it out.

Thank you, I am only keeping the psychology books I read and getting rid of all the books I had to read for assessment and hated. Half the books gone.😊

I am definitely identifying as a mom! Sahm for 14 years. I just took pics of all my kids things that are important to me and upload them to a private album on Facebook.

With ADHD, it seems so easy to forget what I've done... I feel like I've needed the reminders (physical things). I can see that as identity clutter. Curious any tips for remembering the shear host of skills and mad talents we have, that are so easily forgotten through adaptation to the "next thing," even if it is 5 lanes away and going a whole different direction. #Clutterbug Podcast

😂 LOL I have suggested pickleball to you before. Once you start playing someday, you'll understand why we all keep suggesting it to you! I don't have ADHD, but I think it would be the perfect sport for someone with it because you change partners all the time, and hitting a hard plastic ball with a hard paddle definitely sets off good brain chemicals. 😂 None of us would ever want to guilt you about it. We just are all passionate about it.

I think many women feel like moms whether or not they have given birth. It’s nurturing that we crave (some of us.) I’m Childfree in the traditional sense but I nurture animals, people around me, even plants. That’s important too! Who will take care of the rest of the planet if not us? I understand your thinking it’s different having your own kids. I’ve taken care of lots of kids. But many of us are nurturers and use it in other ways. I think we deserve credit too. There are, by contrast, many traditional mothers who are NOT nurturing at all.

Oh! I can prolly go scavenger hunting on trash day, I gotta gather trash on trash day anyway, might as well do a few extra steps and check drawers, counters and pantry stuff while I’m at it. Dang. 🤔
