- While in New York earlier this spring for the theatrical opening of his feature debut CARMEN, director-choreographer-dancer Benjamin Millepied visited Criterion for a trip inside our films closet, where he talked about the evolution of Elia Kazan’s cinematic style, Terrence Malick’s unique ability to capture moments of grace on set, Bob Fosse’s use of editing as rhythm and movement, and much more!
See CARMEN in theaters across the US and shop Benjamin's Closet Picks! www.criterion....
"[Fosse] creates choreography with the editing." Fantastic. Now I'll always think of this when rewatching his movies.
I thought that was a perceptive observation....
Idk why but I love the closet videos where someone goes hard to the point of feeling guilty about how many movies they’re taking… we need another guilt video soon
I liked the selection and Benjamin Milleped's take on cinema. Thank you so much for those recommendations.

This guy really knows his shit!
All That Jazz is so good!!
I’d love to see a detailed view of those Criterion shelves 🤩
It would certainly help with sales if there was a reddit post of these shelves. Just sayin...
The passion here is great
Great picks and comments…
But when speaking about camera movement and space, he should have mentioned Andrei Tarkovsky and Theo Angelopoulos!
Love that he picked Tree of Life.
He literally rips off Terrance Malick and it's not working at all....
Please invite Steven Seagal
Lol
“I’ve been in the Criterion closet for like 47 years.”
@@kellywade3050 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pretty sure he'd break the criterion people's necks for not having any of his movies.
Ewww, no.
The new Kevin Federline.
I proudly own both editions of "Tree of Life"...but I still haven't watched the new cut yet on criterion collection. I know right. I love this movie, but I haven't seen the new cut yet.
Great picks!
When is the #YoLaTengo visit being shown?
I wish that Criterion would show clips of each movie.
casually wearing a richard millie lol
In a few years: Aleph Milepied asks his Dad:
„Dad, If I told you I was gay, would you still love me?“
Benjamin Millepied: „Aleph, Dont be silly son, you were just an Oscarbait. I never loved you in the first place.“
So when are he and Natalie going to make a movie together?
Black Swan
@@ryangraham1328 I was thinking he directs a movie for her to star in, but yeah you got a point.
No time soon.
@@baxatakbaxatak2014 yeah, that didn't age great, did it?
@@samfilmkid You can’t be blamed for that. He can for cheating on her.
Who cheats on Natalie Portman?
this doofus
He could’ve picked 1,000 of them
How can he cheat on Natalie Portman. SMH.
Marriage is hard
Say hi to Natalie for me
God bless Ed Harris.
He is one lucky guy being married to Natalie Portman. Hope we see Portman's Criterion picks soon.
They over
Bunch of cheating weirdos
And then he had an affair & blew it.
Imagine being a nobody, being at the right place/right time to snag an A-list celebrity & then ruining it. What a moron lol
Naptinn sen niye yıktın mis gibi yuvanı ve adam
All-time bag fumbler
Isn't he married to Natalie Portman?
yeah
He was... everyone in France, apparently, caught him cheating on her.
@@seaninness334 I couldn't do that, she's so hot 🔥
This is nowhere near the first affair. Someone who works at the Paris Opera said that Millepied is known to have cheated on Portman with a number of company dancers while he was director there (including at least one dancer he promoted). Word was there were pictures in one case, and a payoff was involved to keep them out of the public domain. His behavior was one of the main reasons he was forced out of the job so quickly.
Lucky dude, he gets to go home to Natalie Portman every night...
Every person is a lucky person when they go home to someone they share love with.
No need to glamorize that "famous/beautiful people" do it better than we do.
except he’s a cheater
Not anymore.
Writers strike, time to shine, yoooo tooooob.
Only Kurosawa. Very compelling how persuasive regarding musicals, you are. But, no. No. Definitely, no thank you!
