    What a great man and company. I hope to see all disabled people back on there feet and helping society with technology like this. This is a prime example of American know how. Just a amazing company and only the begining !

    as it continues being developed those people will be able to afford it. Remember the Iphone was originally $500. Now people can get the Iphone for almost nothing, and as they keep evolving they retire the super old ones.
    Same with medical stuff. My boyfriend is deaf and needed hearing aids. As they've developed better hearing aids, he gets better ones (originally starting with a box that amplified and a microphone when he was little, now to what people think of when they think of hearing aids)

    I have the biome ankle, but i also have the vacuum suction cup, you should get it as well, it works that much better, even takes some of the weight of the biome off. I dont know what i would do without it!! Inexpressibly Wonderful!

    That's not fair for the people who need it but can't afford it

    • @Okarkar
      @Okarkar 9 років тому +12

      +michael moss True but life is not fair unfortunately, right now it has to be expensive becuase of the technology used, the amount they can physically manufacture a year, and the salaries for all the top engineers, scientists and programmers that contribute to the project as well as the rent for the place and the price for the machines used to manufacture and test those legs.
      Big cost=high prices, but dont worry as it gets bigger prices will go lower, and maybe one day a chinese company will make a copy for less :P

      Life is not fair. Most people cannot afford a house and need one but end up renting. Many people also cannot afford food and die. That's a basic human need. There are worser conditions in life than not being able to walk. I'm not saying people shouldn't use bionics at all. I'm saying more complex needs shouldn't be given away for free.

  • @HelterMcSkelter
    @HelterMcSkelter 11 років тому +1

    You say that as if they're making it expensive to build on purpose. There is a huge amount of engineering and manufacturing effort going into making the BiOM less expensive to build and more robust, but it's challenging.
    The BiOM is a stepping stone (no pun intended) to more cost-efficient and better developed technology... you have to start somewhere. You have to walk before you run (okay, that one was intentional).

    Below knee prostesis is relatively simple machine. What you are referring to is fullbody exoskeleton for paralyzed and obviously much more harder to control. These new bionics are really amazing. Soon disabled people will be more powerfull, than the rest of us! :-)

    The key is the human knee......if you don't have the knee, you have lost your leg....if you have the knee but not the foot, you still have a leg....just missing the foot

    So if they want to make it possible for people to jump and slam a basketball, its possible right? I think that would be awesome, see a nice 5 on 5 basketball game with dunking by 10 folks who were once not able to walk at all. What a world.

    While this technology is amazing, it doesn't allow you to be a very good thief. Just imagine the scenario: You're another teacher in the university and you hear someone stealing a notepad from your office supplies, and you hear the hydraulics in the dark. Simple process of elimination? I think so.
