    Instead of photography, we should learn story telling from this guy. The best camera review hands down I ever saw!!

    Man, this is unbelievable. Rarely do I see a video with the storytelling and editing chops that results in being able to feel the “acts” rise and fall like a short film. It was engaging, funny, visually impressive, and an interesting perspective, with thematic elements woven throughout the story to tell something deeper than a “camera review”. Keep doing your thing and you will breathe new life into this subgenre of camera videos. You gained a sub from me and I can’t wait to see more!

      Zack, thank you so much, man. I really appreciate your thoughts, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think you hit the nail on the head; to copy and paste what I wrote someone else, "The camera space on YT is pretty saturated, and I have no interest in "reviewing" cameras in the traditional sense, from a technical point of view with specs and all that. There's plenty of others who do that, and to be honest, I don't enjoy talking about all of that.
      But as someone who has insecurities and imposter syndrome, I think being able to unpack what I'm thinking and feeling into relatable stories that we as artists can all align with is something I'm passionate about and want to dive more into. My art isn't "better" than your art, and vice versa, and the sooner we can all admit that we all face insecurities as artists, the better off the community will be. No brand hate, no "your photos suck," no "your footage is too grainy." I appreciate everyone who just makes an effort to create, because I know that it's coming from a passionate place like it does for me. I just want to make stuff that I can be proud of, and hopefully it makes people feel something the same way it did for me."
      Whether these videos will always be centralized around cameras or photography way down the road is yet to be determined, but for the time being, that's where I see them. That could also just be the imposter syndrome talking. ;)

    This is honestly one of the greatest short films I’ve seen in awhile. Here you have kind of a review of a lovable product, but that’s not what the video is truly about. “Find your X100V.” This video is truly a masterpiece and I hope to see more of this type of content in the future 🤩

    I'm pretty speechless, dude. For a moment, I forgot that this video was riding off of the X100V. What I love most about it is how you address the experience of photography, and the parts that help make it whole. The body, the lens, and JPEGS are specific nuances that are certainly important, but they wane at the merits of moments made and immortalized. You know how I feel about your work dude--KEEP DOIN IT! Great video as always--looking forward to the next one, as always 😉

      @@Joep00 Thanks dude! That is also an excellent camera. I own an X-E4 as well, but I’m letting my GF use it. I always had the 27mm 2.8 WR attached, so I was basically treating it like an X100V anyway. But it’s perfect for a trip or something where I don’t want a massive camera, but want the option to switch lenses. I’ll eventually get around to comparing the two in a video.

  • @leicacamerasandrelatedinfo2257

    Well-done video. I like that it was told as a story rather than just another boring camera review where you go over all of the features, etc.
    You did the review "through the lens" (sorry for the pun) of why it fits into your photographic workflow and life.

    Nicely done. In a time long ago my father bought me for Christmas a second hand early version of a Praktica Super TL. This was a 35mm film SLR camera. It was the body without a lens and carefully wrapped, not in Christmas Paper, but a plastic bag. Dad then went out of the room with the words 'You'll need a lens'. He came back with one of his own lenses, a Hanimex 35mm and some rolls of Black & White film. I've had very many cameras over the years, both film and digital and it's interesting to look back at just how very few I felt to be 'special'. My all time favourite is the now slightly ancient Canon 5D MkII and although I now have 'better' cameras, it is the 5D MkII which still brings a smile to my face.

      I think we all eventually find that camera that we connect with - the one that feels like an extension of us. Often times, it doesn’t even need to the biggest or the baddest; simply the one that allows us to express ourselves and capture beautiful images as freely and easily as possible. Glad you found that. :)

    As a (regrettably) former X100V (and F before) owner… this video hit me right in the feels. I got my X100V when they first released in 2020 and I took so many pics of my kids who were 1.5 and 3 during covid’s darkest days that I still look back on from time to time. I’ve owned and used “better” or “cooler” cameras but the X100 series and specifically the X100V will always hold a place in my heart. Great production, delivery, and message… glad I discovered this video/channel.

      @@Christopher_Ray Recently it's been either an M10 and 35mm or a Q2. I actually replaced the X100V with the Q2 but I've never been totally OK with that decision. Not that the Q2 isn't a great camera but the point you made about always being able to have the camera on you is something that you can't really pick out of a spec sheet. For now, I'm waiting to find another X100V at retail price or waiting for the next gen X100 hopefully next year.

    • @Christopher_Ray
      @Christopher_Ray  Рік тому +1

      Ahhhh, I see. The Q2 has always had my attention. Very interesting. You may have luck with Fuji refurbished like I did. I turned on Twitter notifications for Fuji, and they announced they had some refurbished inventory in stock, X100V included, back in May, and one other time since then. I jumped on the chance, and snagged it for $999. When it arrived, if you would have told me it was brand new, you would've fooled me. It was perfect, and had zero shutter actuations. Try going that route!

    • @MarcWynter
      @MarcWynter Рік тому +1

      @@Christopher_Ray thanks for that suggestion. I’m on a bunch of email notification lists but I’ll jump on the Twitter idea as well. The Q2 is not bad by any means but I think it feels redundant because I have another “simple” camera with the M10. The x100v does a lot to cool stuff that makes it easier to have fun with the experience

  • @TimKoa

    My favourite thing about the X100V is the leaf shutter. It's super quiet and keeps everyday moments candid and casual. If I bring out my other cameras and my family/friends start hearing that loud shutter sound, it takes them out of the moment sometimes because they feel like they have to "pose".

    I rarely comment on UA-cam videos. In fact, it took me an embarrassingly long time to find *where* to leave a comment! But I had to, for this. What an incredible video! So much more than a camera review. Yes, the editing is incredible, but what I loved about this was your ideology toward taking photos - "the best camera is the one you have on you" is an ideology I've tried to live by as a "photo taking person". I'm not a photographer. Not professionally, and not online. After maybe 20 years of posting online, I no longer have a Flickr and I don't like using Instagram much. There isn't anywhere where I share 'proper photography' but I love taking photos. No, I don't get what half the technical terms mean. Yes I've owned several 'real' cameras and bluffed my way through because theyre fun. But I've been enamored with taking photos since a very early age, and I miss it, even though im doing it most days - these photos don't get shared, don't get likes, my stage fright and loathing of social media took care of that. And what's more is that I have remembered WHY I love taking pictures again. Getting to the point of why I stumbled on your video - during the early part of the pandemic, I got to have a hands on experience of the x100v that a friend had. I loved it, but I went for a Nikon z50 on layaway because it was more in my budget at the time. I've enjoyed that for the past few years but circumstance means I can no longer lug around a big camera and feel safe with all the kit - nor have I ever been into that thing, really. Yes, big lens makes cool macro shots. Also makes my back ache. No bueno. I pre-ordered a Fuji x100v, it's been a few weeks and I'm told it'll be several months more before I get it. Not a problem, I'm patient and there's plenty of videos to tide me over in the meantime. I watched yours and I was literally like, YES. THAT'S IT. EXACTLY IT. Photography, for me, is about those little moments. And this camera feels right. I know it'll perform and suit me well, and your review made me feel even more confident in my decision. I'm sorry to have rambled on, but I wanted to share my gratitude - I'm excited to see your other videos on the x100v and taking photos generally. Thank you for your hard work, and hope you continue to enjoy your x100v!

      @Christopher_Ray  Рік тому +1

      First off, I’m honored you chose to comment on *my* video! You bring up a lot of great points here. I also owned bigger camera bodies in the past, and I just don’t like carrying big cameras. I do have my Fuji X-T4 and bigger lenses for it, but I mainly use it for videos and portrait work, and when I’m not doing that, it stays put. It’s a great camera, and it suits the job when needed. But otherwise, about 95% of my photo work is done on much smaller cameras like this X100V, the X-E4, or one of various film cameras I own, and especially when I just want to document the streets, my life, or my travels - and it just feels right.
      I’m excited for your camera to arrive, and I hope you love it as much as I love mine! I think you will. :) If you ever want to chat photography, hit me up on IG!

    I use my X100V as a camcorder for short family memories. Slap a bit of 8mm grain on it and it looks incredible. The only drawback (other than lack of stabilisation) is that I can hear the focus in the mic and manual focus is too bad for use with video.

    I don't watch TV at all, I only watch UA-cam. I choose the subjects I like and will switch off very quickly if I think it's not worth my time, I have a very short attention span, and, being a 50 something Brit, I get a bit pissed off when I watch videos that have over excited introductions and the ubiquitous "Whassup Guys" which drives me insane, and I switch off straight away. As an X100V user, and I have watched a lot of videos on Fuji gear, I watched this and was surprised at such a good production. Beautifully filmed, expertly narrated, and very informative. I had never heard of your channel and expected to see a six or seven figure subscriber count. But under 4k? I am definitely in at the beginning. I've been fooling around with big SLRs and swaping/carrying lenses until it became so much of a assle that I wasn´t enjoying it anymore. Picked up this cheap old Yashica, repaired it and now it's always with me. I really love the experience of shooting with it. fixed 40mm lens, aperture first only, lightweight. I just want to make stuff that I can be proud of, and hopefully it makes people feel something the same way it did for me.
      You definitely did NOT ask for all that, but it was on my mind LMAO 😂
      Anyways, thanks again dude!

      I've told others this, but if you're trying to buy one, I got mine through Fuji's refurbished site for $999, which is a STEAL considering what they're selling for. It shipped with zero shutter count and in brand new condition -- it's excellent and has given me zero issues. Truthfully, I got a Twitter notification from Faizal Westcott who retweeted that Fuji had a bunch of refurbished cameras in stock, including the X100V -- I immediately jumped on and grabbed one. So...go follow Fuji and turn on Twitter notifications!

      And it's all good; I get it. In the camera space, you don't often see stuff like this. I just think it's heavily saturated with what I consider to be the visual equivalent of a spec sheet, and there's nothing wrong with that if you just want to get in, get info, and get out.
      In the year 2022, the word "content" is far too broad a term to say that something has none of it. 🤷‍♂️

    I purchased a X100T 5 years ago and finally sold it after 2 years because I wanted the possibility to use other lenses. So bought an XT-2 and 5 different lenses (zoom, prime, blablabla)... Today when I look all the photographs that I took during both periods I realize that I was far more inspired and productive with the X100T than with all the stuff that I need to bring in a camera bag. The X100T was always with me, like a friend, not perfect for any situation but always by my side. My X100T was not hidden in a bag but just seating on my desk or a shelf or a counter top, just protected by a half leather case. The X100T was never too bulky. People are not afraid by this camera because it looks like an old film camera - something which can't hurt you - that makes a huge difference. Fixed lens means also consistency, it's much more pleasant to look at the photographs taken during that 2 years period because the fixed lens provides a constant esthetic. I totally understand your love letter, I'am considering selling all my gears to buy a X100V and find love again :)

      Wow, thanks for sharing, Nicolas! Your story sounds very familiar to a lot of people, I'm sure. Between the consistency, nonintrusive design, and fixed lens, it's such a special little family of cameras. As I type this, it's sitting off to the right of my monitor, just begging to be picked up and taken out for some photos.
      I'm glad my story could spark some inspiration! Best of luck to you.

Also you give such a comprehensive list reasons why you like/love the 100V. The reason that i found so pertinent to me is that it’s a quality compact carry-everywhere, everyday, camera. That’s something I want, something I need ! Again, as u say, there are other cameras - not so many - that could be that, but the X100V’s form factor is so very beguiling. Christopher, the story you tell is true and similar for many Leica users. For at least10 years now since the first X100 was released circa 2011, the Fuji was the "poor man's" Leica, simply because, if you couldn't afford the Leica M9 (at the time) and their fantastic, yet very expensive lenses, you were certainly looking at the Fuji X100. I remember the launch very well. Over the course of the last decade, the X100 series has had many improvements and versions (The X100v is 5th gen) and today it is no longer just a "poor man's Leica", it's actually a real alternative that is absolutely fantastic and it has great appeal to the documentary, story telling, travel and the special moments photographer, as you mentioned, without all the tech-spec wars and pixel splitting nonsense. I shoot pro level Canons, have owned several versions of the X100 series as well as Leica and I have to say, Fuji brings something awesome to the fight for those of us who do fall into that niche need for the X100 series... Great work and efforts in your videos!

Makes me want to hug my X100V. I love this camera for many reasons: I love that analog feel but the (financial) freedom of digital, I love the size and how it feels less intrusive in those candid moments, and as someone who can panic about which lens(es)to take, it is so freeing to just grab this buddy and not think about it. I enjoyed your video, it was really well done. I am not a photographer, but I do enjoy taking photos. I've commented a few times on the many videos I've watched and very few people actually respond. I do have a couple of Canon mirrorless cameras and I enjoy them, but I bought an older premium point and shoot recently to take with me everyday, the Lumix LX 10. I have to say, it is my X100V... I absolutely love it and have enjoyed using it way more than the other cameras and lenses I own. I am so surprised at how simple it is, how the Leica lens makes such a difference and the JPEGs are good. The ease and simplicity of this little camera has changed everything about how I take pics... I love street photography and I live in Guatemala (I'm a North American) so carrying around the other, larger cameras has been a bit of a challenge. My cell phone is great, but this little gem of a camera has stolen my heart!
    Thanks so much for a wonderful expression of the simple art of photography without all the fuss. Maybe one day I'll have a FujiFilm x100v, but until then, I am enjoying the sweet Lumix that has turned my life around. Blessings to you Christopher... :)

      "Stolen my heart" is such an excellent way to put it! I wish I would've said that! That's exactly how I feel about the X100V, and I didn't know I would until I got it for myself, though going into the purchase, my expectations were for something entirely different.

Since then my X gear collection has steadily increased and now I'm on the brink of moving up to the GFX 50S II. Not as a replacement but for additional options.

    • @philippk819
      @philippk819 Рік тому +1

      @@Christopher_Ray Yes, the X-T2 together with the XF 23/1.4. It for a long time was my 1st gen X100 but I used it less and less, when I had my two X-T10s and then I thought my X-Pro2 would be it and even gave the X100 to my brother since it felt "redundant" next to the X-Pro2. But it turned out I'm using the X-T2 (bought it a month after the X-Pro2) way more than the Pro2. For some time I thought I needed two camera bodies, since I'm only using primes. But my by far favorite focal length is 23, so during my recent roadtrip through southern France (I'm living in western Austria) I most of the days ended up leaving my camera backpack at the hotel and just taking with me my X-T2 and the 23/1.4 in a messenger bag. During that vacation, I actually thought about getting the X100V since I miss the days when I just could "throw" my X100 into my every day carry bag. I had Fuji's full-body X100 leather case, which actually meant I could carry the camera everywhere without the need for a dedicated camera bag for protection. So I literally had it with me whenever I left the house with my every-day messenger bag. Well, as much as I miss the X100, for now my money (literally) is on the GFX 50S II. It might end up being what the X-T2+23/1.4 is now...even though it's not nearly as compact ;-)).

Talking about Christmas wishes: maybe we can ask you to create a video about minimalistic video-making with the x-100v? Would love it!
      To answer your question: my current Sonys are 1x7iv as a-cam plus 2xZV-E10 as cheapo b-cams for interviews giving me the full range of full frame and aps-c, and I am very happy with all of them. Needing a good hybrid shooting option the 7iv is just perfect for me. Once I tried the Fuji x-t3 for filming but autofocus was a desaster, low light not really good and I needed to have the cams to record 4k continuosly for at least 2hrs. Though I really love those beautiful Fuji picture profiles this unfortunately killed it for me. Maybe the upcoming x-t5...

I'm literally sitting at my desk at work secretly watching it because I couldn't pause it, I had to finish it. The way that you were able to make such an entertaining and beautifully shot short film about your experience with a camera is so inspiring and fulfilling to watch. I loved the credits at the end too! How fun and what valuable information! Aside from your first video, I've never had this much fun watching a UA-cam video. You are truly a special cinematographer and story teller and I can't wait to follow you on your journey! Cheers!

      I also have an x100s that I picked up for like $250 and it is without a doubt my favorite camera that I have ever owned, quirks and all! I'd love to try a V one of these days!

      Hey, Reece! Thanks so much, yet again! That really means a lot -- I hope you can tell, and I know you do, but a lot of heart goes into these. From the humor, to the storytelling, to the information, I really do aim for each of these to be authentically me.
      What a special comment. That made my night, thanks!
