Tried this out yesterday! Got some help from a friend of ours that surf and paddleboard a lot. We used a wider board that really helped with stability and I reckon would be great for fishing of it as well. Really fun, one of the best days of my life. I felt more attached to the sea in a way. Could see the sea floor much closer instead of leaning over the side like one does on a boat.
SUP is the acronym for Stand Up Paddle board.
Once start, you never wanna stop. Plus get fit while havin fun. This is a helpful tutorial for beginners.
This is a great video, it certainly helped me when I was starting out. Thanks to BIC for filming/sponsoring it.
Did this today for the first time. Killer workout. Gonna buy one.
This summer I started to learn the step back turn....not easy at the beginning, specially with an inflatable board and some little waves😅...but its very fun, I'll keep training!!
Great tips !!! I have watched a few of your vids... keep seeing the intro of a kayaker I would consider updating that since your pushing SUP...
You're so right about newbies only using their arms. Spreading the load on more major muscle groups us what allows you to paddle for hours. Then you can go real distance and genuinely explore! Good vid, thanks.
Hey! This was very helpful and I appreciate the instructional video (plus the instructor seems happy and genuine, not to mention cute! LOL!. Today is my first go at it on a quiet part of a local river. I wrote down the Rules! I have a great core (TRX fanatic) so I'm sure that will come in handy today. THANK YOU very much! If I really fall in love with this I will buy my own! SUP LOVE!
Loving this channel! Subscribed!
Great demo!
my first time I fell alot!! Maybe this will help, thanks!
Great job on the video.
Thanks! Very useful. Can you tell me what kind of shoes are you wearing while on board? Thanks!
Thumbnail got me again!!
Great basics!
Great film.
NICE VIDEO !
QUESTION:
Paddleboarded August 1st 2022
It is September 1st 2022 and the top left side of my left foot is still sore.
???
Did I do something?
what is the name for those shoes or socks you are wearing? Do they provide greater stability?
Thank you l've learn a lot l was think to get one
l love to learn
+john ross Sorbie Learn to read and write first.
well Venting Show l can read and write before your were born in case if you want know l've 4 stroke and lost my memory.l try to restore my memory back,
this movie is very good!!
And it's a great way to stay in shape
Thanks my man ;)
Muito bom!
Responding to some of the posts here: This video covers golden rules for **paddling technique** vs. general advice for SUP. 'Eyes on the horizon' is a great one that I use a lot and could certainly be included here (as could many, many others!). As for SUP-Surfing, this video is for beginners and doesn't cover surf zone etiquette or technique, that can be found in the "Taking your SUP to the Surf" Episode. Thanks for watching!
fun
i need to try.
2:05 got some fishing jumping out of the water
For freshman, to start with a model that is equipped with pedal system, and there are finishing rod holders. Much more funning and stable.
liking this video because of the Vibrams :D
Should you have an ankle attachment?
The 1st Golden Rule of Video Production is knowing the difference between "3" and "4".
What does math have to do with video production? Nothing, stick to your day job.
"Whats your opinion on this:
""VADER retired PADDLE boarding on LA RIVER (Narrated by Jones Earl James) - S2E1 The River Wild full"""
Cool video. How come no one seems to use a life jacket?
Nice.
I am no expert, but can you please explain if there is a reason why you are holding the paddle the other way round to all the other similar videos I have seen?
That's what I thought!
I didn't know there were any rules. When I was in year 6, we went on a school excursion to go kayaking and stand up paddle boarding around the lake. W e didn't need any lessons, we just did it.
I clicked for the hot girl and got a paddling man.
+lgccrick I feel sorta cheated, myself.
lgccrick me too
+Ken Rehill (
ditto - ripoff
Golden Rule #1 Always expect a clickbait babe thumbnail.
to catch as many waves as possible
"Chillax bra..." lmao
Really informative video, just a shame about the click bait.
cool
Since when are the arms a part of your core muscles
it's fun
I have terrible balance and weak legs, would this be impossible to do? Thanks!
Cyndee Wenzel Nothing is impossible
Thanks! You've given me encouragement!
Cyndee Wenzel That escalated quickly
No just did it yesterday with the same issues. sore legs today but I know I am building and toning.
why all the arguing in the comments? one sport isn't better than the other. It's just personal preference. It's intended for sport and FUN. Now go get out on the water!
NO IT IS BETTER!
The essence and zen of surfing is a relationship with the ocean. The ocean does not discriminate if you lie down and paddle into waves or stand up and paddle. Only humans with attachments and egos do these things.
"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." -Dalai Lama. Peace to the "real" surfers out there.
Lol wtf
what is the purpose of paddle boarding....?
Waooooo mantap2 bro hadirr y
First timer here. I’ve been paddling a total of three days and on my fourth day my calves were killing me lol. I hope this is normal
Oh no. That is very serious. See a physio now. You may have Spina Bifida
@@user-zy9yg2eu5t Thank you I will get checked out
@@kingsgirl1182 Go quickly. You may only have days to live
The first symptoms is calves killing you. Then they recover for around 2 months then you suddenly die of Spina Bifida
Yes it is normal, you are using muscles that you normally would not use. Overtime your muscles will get used to it.
The first and most important rule should be "GET YOUR EYES UP, LOOK AT THE HORIZON". I've seen this instantly transform completely frustrated people into decent SUP riders. It's my main rule with students. Looking at the water or board is a sure route to getting wet. There's too much contrary motion for your balance brain to process (a beginner's or even intermediate SUP paddler). Looking at the horizon gives your balance centers a point of reference. Try it sometime with students.
Is this a good workout?
yes! I did it for the first time lsat weekend, totally felt it for the next 3 days. Great arm leg and ab workout
yes, especially if you are doing it wrong.
Number one rule should be: LEARN WAVE ETIQUETTE if you must paddle at a surf break! This means: a) Taking the wave that's appropriate for your craft. Not every single wave just because you can, but instead leave shortboarders and longboarders waves that are appropriate for their boards. b) Know what a left and right is, know what priority is, know what snaking and dropping in are, learn where to paddle out, avoid people going down the line, etc. Otherwise people are going to hate you.
surfing requires more balance. Even if you are on a longboard, you still have to stand up to catch the wave, not run into it. Plus paddleboarders are always tourists who crowd the beaches and the water
Hahaha, share the waves and be cool out there. This is the same criticism that short boarders give to the long boarders.
Fish jump @ 2:05
cant believe you made me go back for that ......
Always wear a leash and wear a lifejacket for flatwater
What does keeping your board quiet mean?
+veoozo you don't want to hear the water bouncing and splashing off of it.
veoozo it means to avoid making the water splash so the great white shark won't mistaken you as a distressed seal pup.
Came for thumbnail. what's a sup?
I'm concerned that they aren't wearing a leash that comes with the SUP
Rule number 1.Piss off every surfer possible by getting in the way!
This is the same criticism that short
🤟🤟❤️
the first question I have about SUP is...why oh why?!?
I find surfing a short board way easier than a SUP.
Paddling into a wave lying down is easier than paddling standing. Standing once you've got the wave? difficult? hardly
I still prefer surfing my 6' 2" short board than taking out my 10' 6" SUP, but my SUP's mainly for exercise - it introduced me to a whole new world after well over 20+ years of only riding short boards. Part of the reason for SUP is to go places a short board can't - SUPers that crowd/hassle short board breaks are just ignorant
Boxing technique
its midnight and I dont even have a paddleboard
good info, one correction he is holding the paddle wrong, the curve should be away from you
+robert browning No, he is actually holding it correctly.
I just came here for the thumbnail
I'm a rent one tomorrow, if I die, I'm blaming you 😀
SUP is cool but LDR (Lay Down Running) is the next big thing
Your blade is the other way around...
first golden rule of making a video about golden rules is to provide good demonstrations, like putting all of the blade in the water when demonstrating putting all of the blade in the water. 😂
I kept my board so quiet it made the 4th rule completely disappear.
Whats with all the suffers complaing anytime someone wants to catch a wave on anything other than a surf board. I'll catch a wave how i like thanks...body surf, paddle board, body board, doesnt matter.
TheBitcoinArmy -Laird Hamilton, one of the best all time surfers never does!
TheBitcoinArmy Because
1. They are dangerous.
2. Its cheating.
3. Its lame.
Rockie, I can see the dangerous aspect, especially if YOU are in the water. I get that you provide the surfer space and that non surfers might want to choose separate spots etc. but the ocean is big and is for everyone. I live in the mountains and we have trail etiquette and rules. Hikers have the right away, followed by horses, followed by bikes. Bikes are the most dangerous and out of courtesy hikers will ofte move to the side of the trail but in the end that is not the rule.
2. Cheating? really? who says so? enjoying the water in any way is not cheating. Cheating is when someone else writes your term paper. Surfing is hard, some people may just want to have fun. I would love to surf, but try as I might the few times I get to the ocean a year, I can't quite get it. I also have shoulder injury etc. Why is it cheating that I can find other ways to be healthy and happy in the ocean?!
3. Lame? I guess you are much cooler than say, Laird Hamilton? I am sure of it. so are you right? if so, well that's just lame.
M Ann
1.SUPs are HUGE compared to "normal" surfboards. Most people that paddle out with one of those things in crowded lineups barely know what they are doing, and once they fall there is a huge piece of debris that takes out anyone in its way. Using your example. Imagine someone that barely knows how to ride a bike coming at you at about 30mph on a trail thats 2' wide and shear cliff on each side. Sound like fun? 2. Cheating. 99.9% of those in the water are using their arms to get into waves. By using a giant board and a paddle, you can catch a wave that is way outside of the normal lineup. Its too easy. Cheating. 3. Laird Hamilton is an amazing waterman that does alot of stuff for publicity. Just because he decides to occasionally ride a SUP in waves doesn't mean it isn't lame. Then again I don't look to celebrities for advice on whats cool or not. Look SUPs are fine for cruising around and enjoying yourself, but they are a danger in most lineups. If you were in the water surfing almost everyday like I do then you would understand. I've seen more than my share of people damn near get killed by those things.
rockie071
1. dangerous how?
2. I'd like you to call Laird Hamilton a cheater to his face.
3. lame to you maybe, but you surf your waves, I'll surf mine.
What do you mean keep your board quiet? Didnt realise that i was noisy
Tlben
I've seen some of the comments and responses and I still don't think you understand the contention: THE Golden Rule is "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you." Therefore, your video is not a "Golden Rule" video, but strictly a "Technique" video. You just need to change the title so the rest of us understand what we are about to watch. "Golden Rules" would have been exactly rules, not techniques. An example would be if you're paddling around still water in the bay and another SUP falls in the water like their dead, go rescue them. Apparently you did a Surf video so I won't exhaust that. It's just about your title advertising what you're preaching, and they don't jive.
Brazil - SUP Cost about $2,769. Too expensive.
you can rent them for way cheaper
Try kingsofwatersports.com they deliver pretty much everywhere in the world. I live in Abu Dhabi and I ordered from them and tax free since its outside UE.
lolodrezet I used to live in Abu Dhabi for two years. What a hot place that is!!
Where's the bird from the thumb nail at.... CLICK BAAAAAAAAAIT Lol :P
Awesome video, but l can't standup cause l'm on disability
Here's a good rule. Don't let your mates see you doing this.
There's quite a few jealous douchebags in the comments. This video is about paddling technique not surf etiquette.
Shortboarders dislike longboarders; longboarders dislike SUP; but real surfers like all modes of water transportation.
This guy just made around 2000 US$ just from the views in one day of this video. Fuck that shit !
Rule 1 Dont paddle into a surf break full of surfers if you have not learned how to handle a SUP in still water first. yes i ride SUP and surfboard, and have seen what an inexperienced SUP can do to totaly screw up a break .
golden rule number 1 great whites love these boards so don't even think about it lol
tyson1ize Ya... Saw 7 ate last week in Florida alone.... NOT.
The hardest part of stand up paddle boarding is telling your family and friends you are gay.
Watching Paddling tv.......thats a paddlin.
haters gonna hate
waiters gonna wait
Golden Rule #1 always use a leash!
I coulda swore he said 4 golden rules.
What does that mean? Surfing is surfing. Who cares how you get there?
I am here cuz I searched 'sup?'
The most important rule is stay out of surfing areas.
This video is so wrong. First his paddle is too short, the length should be at least 6 inches over his head when standing on flat ground. This insures you don’t over reach and hurt your back or go off balance. Second the scooped part of the paddle should be away from you, this isn’t a kayak. It insures you get the most out of your stroke. It actually takes way less energy to paddle that way. That’s why it looks like he is paddling harder than he needs to. Paddling should be fluid and almost effortless, he is working way too hard.
"don't hunch over"
Then spends the entire video hunched over...
wird\ sick
This is totally misleading, SUPTV. My golden rules of paddling are: 1)always yield to smaller craft, whether surfing or flatwater paddling; 2) never engage in any manuver or activity that could possibly lead to endangering others; and 3) smile! Our sport has a major perception problem (that all SUP paddlers are competitive jerks that want all they can get without regard for others), and this type of video only serves to exacerbate that negative perception.
Paddle backwards
Rule #1: Buy a Jetski
Yeh that thumbnail is such a tease. 🙄
