This is so good that I don't know how to express it. Yesterday, I was reflecting on my Catholic education at a Catholic school. The nuns gave me the information about the faith, but they didn't transmit me the passion that comes with cultivating a close, personal relationship with God. Thank you for your wonderful service Bishop Barron, and may God and our Most Holy Mother bless you and protect you always.

Great talk Bishop Barron. It's weird how different things can be significant for our faith. When I was going through RCIA we had a young newly ordained priest of the diocese who had recently returned from studying Mariology in Rome. He was going over the flight to Egypt episode, and I asked him if there was anything in particular that convinced him that it all really happened since there's so much controversy regarding elements of the nativity story, e.g. the census, the birth in Bethlehem, etc. He said that they visited some place in Egypt where the Holy Family is said to have stayed and that's what convinced him. The next day I was reading the Bible during lunch at work and somehow stumbled across the latter part of Isaiah 19 where it talks about the "pillar on the outskirts," and things just clicked. I had to hide my tears because I knew if anyone saw me and asked what the matter was I wouldn't be able to explain it. But yeah, for me a big one has been typology, from Adam's rib, to the door of Noah's ark, to Ezekiel's river flowing from the temple, to the wound in Jesus' side, parallels between old and new with Joshua, and Joseph, etc. That stuff blows my mind. Just the other day I watched a video from Brant Petrie talking about how the story of Isaac is so utterly bizarre until you look at it in light of the NT. One reaches a point where you just can't help but believe. Faith becomes more about making decisions as an individual which is truly a gift. Peace and Grace~
Typology really is phenomenal. I have started the Bible in a year plan with Fr Mike Schmitz and when I read the account of the test of Abraham and Isaac, I was so beside myself with excitement. Thanks to Scholars like Brant Pitre, Peter Kreeft on typology, whenever I read the OT, I do so in light of the NT and vice versa. Just like the two Disciples on their way to Emmaus, their hearts were set aflame when Jesus expounded Scripture by telling them how the Prophets spoke about Him. That’s Typology and it throws more light on the Eucharist, Mary, Baptism, etc.
@@ucheuju9348 That's what's up! I try to get into that 'Road to Emmaus' mindset at every Mass. It really transforms the experience. It's easy to get caught up thinking that this is something we're doing for God, when really it's the reverse. There are so many organs, saints, and hidden gems in the church, all sent by the Father through the Son in the Spirit. It can be overwhelming, and that's a good thing. Thank you for making my day! Peace and grace~
The Jewish historian Josephus mentions in his writings that the blood and water from the sacrifices would wash out from the side of the Temple like a font. It blew my mind when I first heard the connect between that and the blood and water gushing from Christ's side on the cross, symbolizing the birth of His bride the Church. Just as Eve was born from the side of Adam, so is the Church born through the waters of baptism when the benefits of Christ's redeeming blood are applied to the believer.
Very professorial ! Love to get golden apples on a silver plater , in did I get some every time I listen to Bsp Barron , just can not stop listening and leaning from him !
God bless you you and some others have inspired and encouraged me to spend more time in pray and evangelization starting with my children. I have failed greatly in my calling.
Thank you and God bless. I would love to see a course offered through the WOF Institute, explicitly and precisely coving the four big questions Bishop Barron pointed out that nonbelievers have, and how to present them in both formal classroom settings and informally in the context of every day encounters/conversations: 1. How do you know God exists. 2. How do you explain suffering. 3. How do you know Christianity of all religions is the right religion 4. How do you justify the Church’s sexual teachings. Lord hear my prayer!
Evangelization is very good, but they must teach the truth of the Catholic faith as they evangelize. Knowing the doctrine, without ambiguity is important in evangelization and Catechesis. Thank you Bishop Barron, the excellent communicator.
Knowing and following doctrine is NOT faith, and is not equal to conversion. I know the rules for golf, can get to the golf course, can carry the clubs. But unless I actually hit the ball off of the tee, I am not a golfer. Unless I actually have a living relationship to a LIVING GOD, none of that makes any difference. I am Catholic in name only. Evangelization is the joyful communication of the word of God - the saving power of Jesus' passion, death and resurrection available to ALL. Doctrine is an outgrowth of an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ, a participation in His work on the cross. A nonbeliever cannot separate the two.
He never wrote a book, he never went to college, hee never travelled two hundred miles from the place he was born ... While still a young man the tide of popular opinion turned against him ... His friends ran away ... One of them betrayed him. *He was nailed to a cross and when he was dead he was taken down and buried in a borrowed grave ...* Twenty long centuries have come and gone *and he is still the CENTREPIECE of the human race.* - Adapted from a Sermon by JAMES ALLAN FRANCIS
Who is Abba Father? Who is the God of the forefathers of Peter and the Apostles? Acts 5: 29 In answer Peter and the other apostles said: “We must obey God as ruler rather than men. 30 THE GOD OF OUR FOREFATHERS RAISED UP Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a stake. 31 God exalted this one as Chief Agent and Savior to HIS RIGHT HAND, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. Galatians 1: Paul, an apostle, neither from men nor through a man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him up from the dead, - Who is The Ancient of Days, The God of Abraham, God The Father, Jehovah of Armies?
Today I was talking with a good friend and God forgive me I tried my hand at evangelization. Did not go well, I will in the future keep my mouth shut and just listen to Bishop.
I love listening to you talk. I fully agree. I started a youtube series on each question of the Summa. I'm only 10 questions in, 502 questions to go, but I'm starting. I'm doing a question or two a day. I have no training on this but I trust that I will get better as time goes on. I have a PhD in fundamental moral theology.... I might as well use it.
A humble suggestion for lay people that might combine prayer and learning is to spend 15-20 minutes daily in contemplation of scripture. Take the daily readings or go through a book of the new testament and just focus on a line at a time, maybe a chapter a week with obedience and self examination. If you are a bit fidgety, like me, it helps me focus by having the reading to pray on.
Wonderful - sent the link to fellow catechists. I would add, though, that the FIRST article of study MUST be the Gospel. I am over 30 years a catechist. Most Catholics - adult catechists included - believe they don't know the Bible (despite going to Mass and hearing it year over year). Even if it is simply a deep study of the four Gospels, it must be first. A certain confidence comes to the believer who wades in for themselves, and all of the "commentary" on it is still no substitute for reading the source material, no matter how profound, beautifully written or relevant.. A good Bible study, whether at the parish level or in one's home, is an absolutely essential beginning.
My two favorite American Evangelists are Bishop Robert Barron and Joel Osteen. Divergent in some ways yes. And none of it is up for debate. That's just the way it's going to be
As the video went on I went down to like the video and realized that I already had. I wish I could add something of substance, but I really am just student here.
The talk with Alex o Connor was moving. It was a meeting between a brilliant estranged son and a true father. St Paul preached a crucified Christ with power. Today the church preaches a Christ who is one among many others and other things.
I totally agree with you on teaching the faith that the children are not being taught the right way. In our church the people who are teaching the faith are regular people who volunteer with no training and that is the type of people who taught my grandchildren who after college no longer feel it necessary to go to church. They say they are spiritual. We’ve had many talks together and they believe that Jesus died for us and rose but they don’t feel it necessary to go to church they are spiritual. I think that some pastors need to be more involved on who and what is being taught to these children. They just don’t take it seriously Please pray for this generation of Catholic youth God Bless you
I thank God that He gave us Bishop Barron. He causes atheists to become inquisitive with his common-sense approach to our Faith and, it IS common-sense or, at least, logical if one takes the time to listen. Arrogance causes people to turn against the Church.
Dumbing down the faith. So true! There is more emphasis on 'fellowship' than on 'worship' in most churches. As somebody who is passionate about music I always have to think of the "praise bands" springing up everywhere. That's what young people want, I am told. It swings. It makes you feel good. It dumbs you down, in my opinion. Where I grew up, we had church music composed by Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, not to mention Bach who dedicated his whole life for writing music for worshipping God (but mind you, he was a Protestant :-) That music puts you not just in a different mood, but in a different world. It sort of compels you to go deeper and search. You still find churches which cultivate good music, but in general it is 'dumbed down'.
"Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses." -St. Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi. It isn't clinging to structures of social power and honor that builds up the Church. Nor is it despair, outrage, or spectacle contra mundum. It is witness, it's integrity, and trust that God is Savior, and not ourselves. Preaching God's truth first requires witness to it.
How are young people of Fatih supposed to meet other young people of faith? What does the church do to facilitate this? How can the church hope to grow if there is not a way for this to happen in a real and tangible way? The church should also be about community; it needs to help young people to meet... and young families to meet... and old people to not be alone. The Catholic Church needs to do MORE to make this happen if it wants to exist into the next century. The mass, tho it has it's rightful place and purpose, is not enough to bring people together. It is the Word but not the actions.
YES! Point number one: claiming that Jesus rose from the dead! This is very important, because secular society will tell you that Christ is not the king. Edit: 7:10
In this UA-cam video, Bishop Robert Barron addresses the Catholic educators of the Archdiocese of Vancouver on the topic of evangelization. He discusses the importance of prioritizing evangelization above all else and emphasizes the need to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Bishop Barron also talks about the lordship of Jesus and the need to have a personal relationship with Him. He criticizes the dumbing down of the faith and encourages educators to study and pray in order to have a strong and compelling understanding of the Catholic faith. Additionally, he emphasizes the use of social media as a tool for evangelization. Overall, Bishop Barron highlights the importance of being passionate, knowledgeable, and prayerful in the mission of evangelization.
What a coincidence! I just made this very point last night. (Although my audience was *,* as my point was 1 of 4,200 on the _Breaking in the Habit_ channel.) All the End-Times-Are-Upon-Us advocates, and the "Church needs to return to Pre-Vat-II" proponents, and the "Last Good Pope was St Fillintheblank" pronouncers: all these need to get their chains jerked (in a loving way (WWJD?)) and be given the suggestion that their energies would better be redirected from their lamentations and into some contribution to their role in our Great Commission. That's my 2¢.
The young atheist Alex you talk about, took the easy way out. So much easier to deny a supreme being or excuse themselves by saying no one answered my questions than to try to find the answers themselves, by reading and studying. If he is so very bright this is what he should have done, hopeful the same brightness that led him out of the faith will lead him back to it.
No more watered down Catholicism! Why would we want to distort the richness and beauty of the faith? Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
May I also add another rule of evangelism? Don’t replace the liturgical beauty with modern/non-liturgical songs and entertainment. Keep the tradition, and be serious. Don’t try to sell the product you have with something cheaper and superficial. Just as we shouldn’t dumb down our faith, don’t change or compromise the beauty of our liturgical traditions either.
Bishop Barron, are you saying that I have to stay in school, learn how to build buildings and THEN I can go back to the original plan to teach again? Because the current disaffiliated are the people who I am working with? I get spit on, beat up, I have to pick up garbage, clean a lot, and I don't ask for any thing in return. Most of the people who work shoulder to shoulder with me aren't even Catholic, therefore I don't get to attend Mass quite frequently, and I get attacked for my Faith. This is not easy. I'm grateful for the little things, like online education and online Mass. Even moreover, I am grateful for when I get to go to Mass in person and experience Him, for myself. And I used to Serve the Mass through being a church Musician and reader. When will things be "normal" again?
@Dawn Lapka I'm sorry people are treating you that way. Give it all to God. Offer up your all your sufferings to our loving Mother for yourself & for all the others that are going through what you are & she will help you. The Church has spent too much time in "dialogue" and "ecumenism" with the world. It's time for the Church to reclaim her rightful place as the one, true and holy religion of the world! The Ark of Salvation, outside of which there is no salvation!
@@catholicdoctrine You've hit the nail right on the head. There is a glaring inconsistency between pre- and post-conciliar (Vatican II) thinking. The one which follows closest to the perennial teaching of the Church and to Scripture is what has always been and will continue to be the Magisterium of the Church. Regardless of the "pastoral" approach the hierarchy prefer to take in the current era. I will refer once again to John 14. More specifically to John 14:6. In the entire chapter Christ refers to Himself as the only way to the Father, hence the ONLY WAY TO SALVATION!
_Gospel_ is a horrible translation for _Ευαγγέλιον,_ as Gospel is an Anglo-Saxon word. In modern English, the word _Gospel_ exists only as a proper noun. There is *no modern English equivalent* for the Greek _Ευαγγέλιον._ I was explaining this to a Turkish friend. Apparently Turkish does have an equivalent word. This absence gives us challenges, since _evangelize_ *is* a word in modern English. Fundamentalist Christians of the 2nd half 20th century gave the rest of us tiresome examples of it, both good, and not so good.

Just reading you n your response to this talk is inspirational!
Don’t go away will you.

This is perhaps one of the greatest preaching I've heard in a very long time! By far, one of, if not thee greatest homilies from Bishop Barron! 🌹🙏
Very professorial ! Love to get golden apples on a silver plater , in did I get some every time I listen to Bsp Barron , just can not stop listening and leaning from him !
Superb talk! So energizing! :)
“ The church goes out from itself “, that’s my beautiful Catholic Church, my Lord and my God.
Thank you Bishop!
Thank you, Bishop Barron!
Thank you 🙏Bishop Barron!!!
Phenomenal presentation, as always.
Thank you very much. :)
God bless you you and some others have inspired and encouraged me to spend more time in pray and evangelization starting with my children. I have failed greatly in my calling.
Sounds to me like that is now in the past.
May our Lord Bless you some more.

Faith is a Gift ! The Lives of the Saints are the best Cathesisms!!!
Yesss ..... Amen ❤ thank you Bishop Barron 🙏❤✌
This is a scam. It's not from Bishop Barron. Don't donate any money to that orphanage because it doesn't exist.
preaching God's message to the wise and ignorant, adds to one's contribution to the works for his kingdom.
Praise the Lord
Thank you and God bless.
I would love to see a course offered through the WOF Institute, explicitly and precisely coving the four big questions Bishop Barron pointed out that nonbelievers have, and how to present them in both formal classroom settings and informally in the context of every day encounters/conversations:
1. How do you know God exists.
2. How do you explain suffering.
3. How do you know Christianity of all religions is the right religion
*He was nailed to a cross and when he was dead he was taken down and buried in a borrowed grave ...*
Twenty long centuries have come and gone *and he is still the CENTREPIECE of the human race.*

Galatians 1: Paul, an apostle, neither from men nor through a man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him up from the dead,

Today I was talking with a good friend and God forgive me I tried my hand at evangelization. Did not go well, I will in the future keep my mouth shut and just listen to Bishop.
That was really good. I'll have to watch it again. So much good stuff in that 45 minute discussion.
Have u watched it again yet??
❤️
People that do that are awesome. Holy hour.
Go Jakob!

TOTALLY agree - its the foundation of all the rest of it.
Lectio Divina prayer happens when you read, reflect, respond (in prayer), rest in the context of meditating upon Holy Scripture.
Thank you
Wow. That was good.
You make me 😀
So good to read all the comments n know it was good, for others too.

My two favorite American Evangelists are Bishop Robert Barron and Joel Osteen. Divergent in some ways yes. And none of it is up for debate. That's just the way it's going to be
Wish I could like a video more than once.
You could say why, if you have a few spare words floating round your head .🤔❤️
As the video went on I went down to like the video and realized that I already had. I wish I could add something of substance, but I really am just student here.
I ask the Holy Spirit to give me the gift of servanthood in order for me to evangelize the Gentiles as we are living in a secular society.
28:15 powerful stuff right there, represents countless fallen away catholics
The talk with Alex o Connor was moving. It was a meeting between a brilliant estranged son and a true father. St Paul preached a crucified Christ with power. Today the church preaches a Christ who is one among many others and other things.
BISHOP BARRON WORK HARD
BISHOP BARRON WORK HARD FOR HIS SPIRITUAL MISSION,HIS APOSTHOLIC WORKS FOR THE LORD, GOD BLESS...YOU ARE GREAT....
Wow!!!
No matter the chaos to control and distract.
They just don’t take it seriously
Please pray for this generation of Catholic youth God Bless you
I also believe the Bishops should follow up somehow in how our faith is being taught in the churches under their jurisdiction
All our most ENHANCED capabilities are owed to...
The purpose is mission above maintenance.
Word. In the beginning of the Church there were no institutions. But there were evangelists. Dumbing down the faith does not make it more compelling.
THAT'S the practice of the faith.
The rapid conversion and steadfast witness of the persecuted Christians under pagan Rome, Africa, and East Asia comd to mind. Agreed!
(Although my audience was *,* as my point was 1 of 4,200 on the _Breaking in the Habit_ channel.)
All the End-Times-Are-Upon-Us advocates, and the "Church needs to return to Pre-Vat-II" proponents, and the "Last Good Pope was St Fillintheblank" pronouncers: all these need to get their chains jerked (in a loving way (WWJD?)) and be given the suggestion that their energies would better be redirected from their lamentations and into some contribution to their role in our Great Commission.
That's my 2¢.
Excellent.
They may be able to cause death but they can't overcome it. JESUS did!
Inspiring talk Bischop Barron. So how do we start. If they say they don't believe? Bit scary
“ should” is such an unhelpful word. It brings out the worst us I reckon.❤️
Please pray and offer Sacrifices for the conversion of Casey McKee please
During 70s forward, the doctors of the faith were not taught or required reading. So sad.
No more watered down Catholicism! Why would we want to distort the richness and beauty of the faith?
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
AMA means something very different to those who work with patients in hospitals 😛
Genius idea with that Four-Point (or four question) curriculum
2000 years of salvation history, etc....
Sinning inwardly and outwardly...
Careful to de-limit?
I will keep you in my prayers➖🙏😊
May God and all of his Heavenly Angels bless you today and always➖🙏💖🌷
Beyond the political bounds of human associations and relation we no greater recognitions to this other- beyond us to ( guess who...?)
No! The most important thing is the Most Holy Eucharist!
The Holy Mass, if celebrated with love and reverence, beautiful music, etc., evangelizes people

The Church has spent too much time in "dialogue" and "ecumenism" with the world.
It's time for the Church to reclaim her rightful place as the one, true and holy religion of the world! The Ark of Salvation, outside of which there is no salvation!
Agreed. In my humble opinion..we have to remember 1 Corinthians 9.22

You've hit the nail right on the head.
There is *no modern English equivalent* for the Greek _Ευαγγέλιον._
I was explaining this to a Turkish friend. Apparently Turkish does have an equivalent word.
This absence gives us challenges, since _evangelize_ *is* a word in modern English. Fundamentalist Christians of the 2nd half 20th century gave the rest of us tiresome examples of it, both good, and not so good.
Overdo overdone.
I think abortion is number one priority
Evangelization helps reduce abortion
