The casting was perfect as I read The Sympathizer and The Commited back to back. I couldn't of picked a more perfect actor to play The Captain. Also I have seen most of Park Chan-wook's film and was thrilled he directed this series. He directed The LIttle Drummer Girl and that was so well done.

Having escaped from Vietnam at the age of 14 to come to America and a 30-year Navy vet having deployed to the Middle East- Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibouti, this episode does strike a chord with me. There is no winning in war, it is just a degree of losing.

Can’t wait to see what I should think concerning Vietnam from people who have an understanding of race relations or human behavior due to our similar SES backgrounds

what is the big deal about 'spy in a war'? there were so many good movies in World War II already! or just because the war was 'The Vietnam war'? why the HBO doesn't make a series to tell the real story about 58 thousands American, and 250 thousands South Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed for that war?

Tbh, I've never heard a Vietnamese person call it the "American War" in Vietnamese. It's either the "Vietnam War", "Second Indochina War", or "Resistance War Against America (To Save the Nation)".

huh? everyone calls it american war around me lol. it may refer to a larger sense - the war across all the country, not just the south. if its only the south, sure, the way you said is more correct.

@@zzzmzzz4466 Do they call it "American War" as in "Chiến Tranh Mỹ"?, because I've never heard anyone call it "Chiến Tranh Mỹ".

@@deeemtee7040 yes, in the north of vn. where are you staying lol
actually, more like ‘chiến tranh chống mỹ’, it might technically mean different from ‘american war’, but you know, saying the country we fought against to distinguish.

@@zzzmzzz4466 That's what I meant. I've heard "Chiến tranh Chống Mỹ" before of course. "Resistance War Against America" and "American War" carry different meanings.

@@deeemtee7040 To be fair it would probably be more accurate to call it "American Resistant War". But calling it "American War" is just more convenient and still portrays the point sufficiently
