I spent the entire month of May in the South Bay and did lots in the city. Had a surprisingly awesome time. No theft. No murder. It was a great time. Fight the fear and don’t believe everything negative people tell you.

I hear that it's so crowded...that nobody goes there anymore! This is another example of measuring the hassle of getting there to the wonderful things you can see and do when you get there. We had a recent trip to SF, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A Giant's game, Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, the Disney museum, etc. Just hold your breath until you reach your destination!

Hey Guys The question of the day is. Where did you place the e bikes? Where did you hide them safely? So they won't be stolen.

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  6 місяців тому +4

Good morning! I meant to show more of the bikes! They store inside our 5th wheel passthrough when at the RV park, so they are locked up and out of site. They store in our locked truck bed when we drove and parked at the bridge. And then at the Pier where we ate I locked them up on the bike rack in a busy plain sight area next to the security shack.. We use a big chain lock. Never use the flexible cable style because they can be sniped with a bolt cutter in 2 seconds! 😊👍

We had a horrible time riding the BART from the airport to Berkeley for my nieces wedding. A man was smoking a cigarette 🚬 on the train and I looked back because I thought I smelt something and he/she lost it. I had to move seats quickly and put my backpack on my lap incase I needed to defend myself. I didn’t see a cop around anywhere. In fact there was a number posted that you could call 😡😬🤦🏻‍♀️. I don’t think I will ever ride it again.

I used to ride Bart from the East Bay to SF back in the 80's and 90's all the time. The last time I took Bart was about a year ago from the Oakland Airport to the Walnut Creek Bart Station. The stench of urine and other unmentionables was horrific. The train cars are a disgusting mess now when they once used to be clean. I recall they had cleaning crews going in/out of the cars back in the day when the train stopped at the stations. Born and raised in the Bay Area but once retirement comes, we are out of here.

Living in the Bay Area my whole life I steer clear of San Francisco unless I have to go. We take the ferry to San Francisco when we go for a more relaxing time. We did walk halfway across the Golden Gate Bridge. Have gone to Pier 39 many times and enjoy the sea lions! Glad your trip to my stomping grounds was good!❤

My daughter and I were there back in June. We combined it with a week's stay in Yosemite NP. I'm not crazy about San Fran. We took a Van tour and the guide was describing how much crime and car break ins happen frequently. It also appears that businesses are leaving the area as well. The week in Yosemite was incredible. The hiking was so much fun and to see El Capitan and Bridal Veil Falls was amazing! Thanks for taking us along on your travels!

SF 3rd gen Native…. Just get the poop 💩 app if you go. Smash and grabs are an every 30 second occurrence…. Doesn’t matter what district your in there you’re gonna have to deal with some things you don’t come across up at Yellowstone or hiking at the Grand Canyon 😂
Left long ago…. They can have their poop app 💩😭

As someone that lives in the Bay Area, you can love and hate SF at the same time. The city can be beautiful and there is a lot to do there, but the crime and homelessness is the reason we rarely go. Property crime has come down a lot after the old DA was recalled and a new one appointed. Amazing what happens when you prosecute criminals, crime goes down. For those visiting, do not leave anything (and I mean anything) visible inside the car when you park it. As for the toll gates, I go through them in my motorhome a lot. They aren't bad once you get used to them.

California is a beautiful place to see but cost to much money. Seems like you two got a good deal at a place to stay. Driving this Class A cost a lot of money to fill up in that state . Everything is to expensive by way to far in that state and the fact you better have a big guard dog would help . The leaders have let that town go down in so many places. I feel sorry for the people that are on Social Security and have no way out of that area.

It was not great sightseeing in the backseat of the family station wagon! (Yes we were heading south to LA while Charles Mansion was causing havoc & stayed one canyon over from the Tate mansion).

Been there back in the 80's. Never again due to the urban environments of these cities today. I'm not much for cities in the 1st place so it's not just SF. I'll stick to the north country and woods as much as possible. My best times are spent in places where I don't need my wallet for days. I really like the way those ebikes dropped in the back of your truck. Take care.

This may not count because it’s been so long, but we were in San Francisco 25 years ago on a family vacation in our pop up camper. My wife, her sister (she lived there) and all the kids went shopping near the pier. I heard music, wandered into a bar with a cover band playing Huey Lewis and the News…horns and all. Hehehe we only live about 80 miles from SF. LOL The ONLY time that we go there is for Dinner….. San Francisco is not what it used to be. Drugs and crime have took it over and the local government is bad. Still a ok place to go and see. The storekeepers really tried to keep their area clean. Local government does not take care of anything. SAD. NICE VIDEO.

RV's can use the far right (curb) lanes when crossing the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges. We use them when we have the RV and go to our destinations across the bay. We have actually stayed at one of those now defunct spots at the San Francisco RV Resort (Parking Lot) at a time when the coastline wasn't eroding away many years ago. We had a 27' travel trailer at the time so it wasn't too big to maneuver in/out of there.
If you ever get to the Santa Cruz area, Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort in Felton, CA is a very nice place to stay too. Ghiradelli used to make chocolate there in SF but when LIndt and Sprungli bought it, they moved the manufacturing across the bay to Hayward then to San Leandro. Back in the late 1800's, Ghiradelli also made coffee, syrups, liquor and spices. Like Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Transamerica Corporation and Levi Strauss, Ghiradelli is a California icon. Just a little side note, my grandfather was one of the many workers who helped build the GG and Bay Bridge's. Safe and happy travels to you guys!

Hellloooo from Hall of Horrors at Joshua Tree national park! I just pulled out of the park and am driving back to L.A. to fly my boss back to Telluride.
OMG...you say 4 years, and I remember it like yesterday watching your San Francisco video and seeing you two e-bike around. I had been there just before you were there and really wished I had e-bikes there!
Very awesome....I really enjoy San Francisco! Yes...I hear a lot of news or peoples anecdotes about how horrible it is there. I discount it all....have always enjoyed it there...and look forward to returning.
    Safe travels!

It was a beautiful city. My aunt and uncle used to live 1 street up from Union Street. That was in the 70's. Very different back then! Haven't been in years, but I have enjoyed all the visits I've had being a native Californian.

LOVE SF. ❤ One of my favorite cities. (Personal bias… I used to live there.) But yes, traffic is awful. SF is one of those cities you learn to walk or take public transit (BART, trollies, cable cars, etc) more than driving or trying to park.

You can if you use a chain lock or metal folding or "U" lock. And lock them up in plain view and a busy place. Those style locks require a loud power tool to cut and take a while. But, if you use a cable style lock they can be cut quietly in seconds! Here is what we use.

I drove across the Golden Gate and through San Francisco 12/2/23 and wasn't interested in stopping since I had spent some time in the city before. I hit all the touristy spots and some others I found on my own then. Driving a Winnebago Revel through town was easier than a fifth wheel, trailer, Class-A! At least the Golden Gate had 2 clearly marked over height, oversized lanes on the right. I HATE Big Cities in general and much prefer the one stop light small towns and rural communities.

Great memories meeting people at the Hardrock Cafe. Then again 14 years ago on our trip to Yosemite. Also biked the GG and Fishermen wharf. Great trip. Sorry to say we won’t go back until there is a change in policy towards criminal activity. Will not subject my family to lawlessness.

Won a free trip to SF decades ago. Never wanted to go there but I was wrong. Would not go today though. I was shocked how close the rock was. When I was there I saw the most memorable thing I have ever seen and that hold true to today. I toured a WWII submarine. It was an audio tour but there was two elderly gentlemen that were on board that served on the same class of sub in that war. I could have talked to them for days. If I remember right they had a crew of 77 men in this tiny tube. 8 hours on duty, 8 hours in your shared canvas bunk and 8 hours you just had to stay out of everyone's way. Three men shared a bunch on rotating shifts. Only had one head for 77 men. I never bought the lie that are prisons were over crowded but after seeing the space that 77 men shared you was even more convinced. It was so hot in the sub with all the men and those stinky old diesels that they were allowed to wear t-shirts instead of there uniform shirt. One of the old guys said that maximum underwater time was four hours as that is all the batteries they had. I bet BattleBorn wished they could go back in time and help those hero's!! He also said that a round bottom boat did not handle waves well. Yea no kidding. Enough rambling but a big shout out to all that served!

Big cities are on the hate list. And San Fran helped me finalize that point of view. I decided to give it a chance. The best part was Lands End Park. Next we decided to ride a cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf. Spent waaay too much time in line for that. Dinner at the wharf was ok but time spent in lines prevented a visit to Ghirardelli 😢

Most important part is to use a solid metal lock like a chain or folding lock. Don't use the flexible "steel" cables because they can be cut quickly and silently with the right tool. We use this chain lock most of the time to lock up both bikes. amzn.to/4ap1CMb Also have these folding locks. amzn.to/48fDDx8

@@IreneIronTravels Golden Gate Park is also great to visit. There are lots of hidden gems such as a 9 hole golf course, bison (yes, real bison!), an angling and casting club, a large dog park, an equestrian facility, a polo field, lawn bowling courts, windmills, stow lake with paddle boats and lots of aquatic life (ducks, frogs, fish, etc), archery fields, soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, disc golf, horseshoe pits, de Young Museum, Conservatory of Flowers, Japanese Tea Garden, Academy of Sciences (has a planetarium, aquarium, rainforest and a natural history museum), a children's playground, hippie hill (be careful breathing the air), a large diverse and beautiful botanical garden, the AIDS Memorial Grove, roller blading/skating area with music, lots of hidden groves, gardens and picnic areas and a crap-ton of trails in the woods. Sad to say, I probably missed several other notable things as well. Within the past few years, a large section of one of the main thoroughfares in the park (JFK Drive) has been closed to traffic and now serves as a great place for families to bike and jog in the park. The park is one of my favorite places to go in the city and luckily it is only about a short 5K jog from my place up the hill in the center of the city. Another nice place to visit but it gets more crowded due to being smaller with fewer trails is a hike in Lands End.
