A seriously brilliant performance by Robert Morse. The end number was entirely spot on, and played tribute in just the right way. I went back and watched this 5 times.
Yes. If you'll notice he's not wearing shoes while he performing his 'soft "shoeless song and dance routine'. How Fun Is That!?!? It's lovely. I highly recommend it.
I was watching this on DVD on an old obsolete television set. So, I came online to view this clip because of it's higher resolution and superior audio. It's a cutie pie scene. I love it. It's a grande finish. Very tongue in cheek, and slightly soft camp too. I'm going to have to find a way to preserve this and convert it into an ITunes file. I'd like to put it on my IPod play list so I can listen to it at my leisure.
Incredible...something that Morse probably wanted to do as a final send off that Weiner perfectly placed into the underlining themes.of the show. Don is slowly realizing how shallow his life has become. The money will never give him what he longs for...true intimacy... Oh, that brunette dancer is cute as hell too :)
When you think about it, Bert was born at the right time to see such incredible changes in the world. He was old enough to remember the horse and buggy era, then came cars, then airplanes, skyscrapers, radio then TV, but also mass industrial death in the World Wars. While he was on his couch watching the Apollo 11 moon landing he thought to himself, "Now I've FINALLY seen it all!" He smiled and quietly passed on....
Wow. That is love baby. Your very astute, intelligent, and observant. Your summation cannot be topped. Me too, I say give it up for HomeBoy. Hip Hip Hooray! Yeehaw! GiddyUp! How Fun Was That !?!?
One more thing. I love the ending. Bert says his last line, he trundles back to his office, escorted by a phalanx of young female beauties. Don has this incredulous unbelievable look on his face. Bert enters his office, he turns around, smiling, he waves. The door closes shuts..... clump! Don's still looking, his mouth is slightly open (Don close your mouth please). It's a very funny scene. I got a good long bellylaugh out of this. It's such a treat. Very Sweet. I'm going to copy this somehow so I can always have it to peruse over and over again.
This was such an incredible scene. Wonderful in a bizarre way, but also profoundly sad. No more Bert =[ just hope Don takes the message of the song to heart.
A classy send off to a classy character. Kudos to Robert Morse for a great performance. I only wished they showed more of Bert in the later seasons.

Me too -- I feel Don's incredulity and hallucinatory glee.
I watch this at least once a week.
Such an underrated character, but you're moments were gems in an already great show. Gunna miss you Bert!
After the door shuts, it just kinda hits you. Damn. Gonna miss you and your shoeless feet, Bert.
It's one of the greatest TV character departures.
eric toth Eric, I entirely agree.

Don, my boy. I wonder who else would ever call Don like this. So many contradictory feelings in one scene.
Damn.. will miss Bert.
He faced the final curtain with a bow. That's a great send-off.
