Heejin also directed Ice Cream Cake era by RV which is also a innapropriately suggestive song.
Totally, I was really enjoying the lyrics and then I decided to take a look to the lyrics... And now I feel really uncomfortable
@@fifixo3356 Its absolutely there they just treat any criticism of the lyrics as criticism of the girls and would rather just pretend there's not a problem.
Somebody rewrite the WHOLE SONG but keep the beat because it sounds so good to me. I hate what I’m reading though. Most of these girls have probably never nor want to experience anything relating to their “cookie” at this age. I’d be whining to be let out the studio 😭

Merinding disko saya, pedhopile banget berarti yg nyiptain lagunya.
I always come back to this and just want to clarify that these people are singers, not songwriters, their job is to sing the song given and usually written by people who speak English and Korean. Honestly sad what the lyrics are but, the beats is too catchyy
Also the lyrics in Korean maybe innocent and it's Abt real cookie only...but while reading English lyrics people take double meaning...
Hybe tried to explain the meaning and even said the worked with english song writers that told them there was no other meaning……🤨 any English song writer would know there’s a double entendre for “cookie” lol (no hate just saying)
sad? it's a cute song about baking?

The thing is, they know Westerners are listening to the music and they know what cookie is synonymous with in the West. Plus the lyrics "made a little cookie" instead of "baked you some cookies" or "look at my cookie" which no one would say about actual cookies. And even if the song is perfectly innocent, did we really need ANOTHER song about being into boys from this group?

Why do you judge "Korean" music with your or English standars? It does not have any problem in Korean lyrics 😂😂
@@momo-rt9ko cookie is a metaphor for their CD
@@skim1090 I really don't want to discuss through yt comments, but not only was this song written, reviewed (and probably) created for a global market, so the English standards are, sadly, required while "judging" the song. Also, the korean lyrics are somehow suggestive, the "my dessert", the hungry but not for food thing, the "only made at my house"????? if they really wanted to talk about their music I can promise you they'd use different words.
Minor's sexualization is indeed very prevalent in media (I'd say specially kpop), so I don't know why people get so angry when fans voice their concerns about it being so over the top. Finally, I haven't seen anyone hating on the girls, the backlash is towards the company and people who /purposefully/ gave a sexual song to minors (and this is from my pov;) to target an unsafe audience.
im having mixed response with this debut, yeah it's good, it's unique, also their voices fits the song. but the lyrics is what messed up my whole feelings about this song, i mean i will not complain if they are in their early 20's, mid 20's cause they are old enough to do those kind of concepts but they are literally kids. the youngest is still 14, YES 14.

Ok so good song genuinely. The lyrics do have a double meaning and it went too far. This song was also written by westerners, not someone who would have a language misunderstanding. The video did not emphasize that it’s a cookie for a boy they like and ooo they are baking cookies it just showed the girls dancing and singing. They knew what they were doing and I genuinely tried to give it a chance but the “come and take a lookie and come to my house” nonsense was it
Its confusing bc knetz called it cute and reminded them of a nursery rhyme and some knetz are even saying its tooo childish so idk. They're viewing it as cutesy & adorable and i-fans are calling it sexual, so there's two different interpretations going on and idk if its bc knetz dont know english sexual innuendos or if i-fans are so used to sexual lyrics due to western music
@@nayjohnson4412 I think it’s more the knetz don’t know the connotation. The person who wrote the lyrics for the song is Swedish so they definitely know the English lyrics portion which is where the song gets weird. I’m glad Korea will not have that negative connotation but I can’t help feeling it was purposefully going a bit too far in order to cause more discussion on social media about it. I even went through the song and replaced cookie with cd to be like “am I the problem or is this the problem” but I think it’s genuinely on the song writers
@@nayjohnson4412 I mean those two things (cute/childish and sexy) SHOULD be separate concepts, but they feel pedophilic-ly combined here. Unfortunately the intention can be for it to be both childish and sexually suggestive, one doesn't negate the other given that this would hardly be the first example of the entertainment industry sexualizing a 14 year old girl while also intentionally emphasizing how young she is as part of that. It's disturbing to think about but I don't see a plausible way around it here

@@LFNZE i’ve been following the group since it was announced. and even if min heejin didn't have a pedophile history behind her career, i would think the same way, it's not me who has a dirty mind, it's the extremely specific metaphors that were used in the song

Nope I feel the same way. I think its laughable ppl are saying we are pervs for thinking this song is sus. From English speaker/american slang aspect I personally can't listen to this song knowing these girls are only 14-17 years old. Even if they don't mean anything sus in Korean... The girls are great and very talented, but these lyrics... they are not okay for them. We know these lyrics can be interpreted in an inappropriate context, and considering the concerning issues with Min Heejin and minors+youth, we can not let something like this slide. Even if this song was innocent and about fans and baking, why isn't it a cutesy and upbeat concept? If you really care about the wellbeing of the girls, then this should be a huge red flag.

these girls are insanely talented and NewJeans is such a unique and interesting group in 4th gen, but this song just does not do them justice. it's got a super catchy beat and the choreography is insanely good, but if they could rewrite the entire song to be appropriate for the girls then I think this would've been their most popular song yet.

To the teenagers who dont get how the song is sexual, you'll understand when you're older, but please trust me it is. I'm not trying to apply a western slang to a kpop song , it really does have a double meaning. From start to finish, the entirety of the lyrics are sexual, not just the word cookie itself. I know you all still think its a bop. When i was a teen, i loved lots of very sexual K-pop songs that i didn't know were. I just realised as i got older. Its a common issue in kpop, where minors sing about these things. It doesnt mean you should stop listening to the band, of course you can support them. But yes, its wrong that a 14 year old sung a song about this. If you're around this age yourself and you dont understand the lyrics, then how come girls near your age can be singing it ... it is not appropriate for teenagers this age. I hope that some people can see this and understand 🙏
Can You Explain Whats So Sexual About The Lyrics?
@avenging5138 cookie is slang for women's downstairs. And it is common to use this slang to talk about oral. If you're not sure what that is, look up a definition because I can't say it here. Alot of songs talk about this with similar lyrics both western and non western

I am Korean and I use a translator
It has disappeared now, but in the early 2000s, music files were backed up on an empty CD and listened to. At that time, they expressed that they burn CDs in Korea.
The reason is that the CD becomes very hot when the backup is complete.
This means that New Jeans cannot reject the cookies (CDs) we made.
In the music video, the cookie turns into a CD, and the cookie that was rolled first rolls back to the CD is the most symbolic. It means taste their musicality.
Well I guess other people will not listen to you. They see only what they wanna see. Some people actually believe that if eng translation sounds inappropriate than it is inappropriate even though the song is mainly written in korean
@@jainlee3645 it was originally written in english and then translated to korean
@@jainlee3645 not my problem that 2 european women composed this
One of the best comment I have read 👍
This song is a masterpiece and is extremely underrated. It's a shame that hypocritical Western K-pop stans insisted on ruining it for others.
Let’s ignore the lyrics. The song is actually so good but it’s the lyrics 😭😭
Let me, as a Korean, say something to western/ I-fans… For everyone who is saying that the song was made to sexualize NWJNS, I really don’t think so. I’m not just defending bc the song is good lol. In Korean music, I can’t recall a single song that uses metaphors throughout the lyrics to refer to sex. It’s just not a common thing in Korea.
What koreans like to do though, is use metaphors to describe LOVE themes. And a lot of times they like to bring food in the lyrics bc it’s a cute and fun concept. Ex: NCT- Chewing gum, Red velvet- ice cream cake, Jessica- cold noodles, twice- fancy (sana’s part where she says she says she feel lovely, like a melting, sweet chocolate ice cream), NCT- hot sauce, etc..
In particular, I think sweets being used to refer to love makes quite sense bc both are -> sweet and addictive, but bad for you.
Now the problem is that yes, I’m pretty certain the ORIGINAL meaning of the song was sexual, as the original lyrics were in English by western writers. However, note that many kpop songs do that. They usually don’t change the entirety of the lyrics in respect for whoever wrote the original lyrics, but they do change the motive and meaning of the song.
A good example is Eleven by Ive. The original song was using the phrase 11/10 to describe the experience of having good sex. But Ive changed the meaning to tell fans that they’ll put in effort to exceed expectations by 11/10.
Korean channels that live off of introducing gossips, scandals, and controversies in kpop ofc made videos about NWJNS’s controversy over this Cookie track. All of the ideas (about the song being sexual) was supported by using American UA-cam comments.. like literally every single one. Literally no Korean would think that this song was talking about a woman’s vag*na. But ofc there were many Americans who said that, so the Korean channels just used the comments to bring tea.
Majority of koreans were so baffled and quite angry that westerners were pushing the idea that it’s sexual. This simply does not fit their cultural narrative- The main arguments of knetizins are: (1) it’s a Korean song song by Korean singers, so it doesn’t make since that westerns are pushing their ideas when “cookies” in Korea does not mean vag*na; (2) it was clearly explained that cookies look like CDs, so they were using a metaphor to describe the addictiveness of the group’s talents as kpop idols; (3) why are westerners so sexual in everything. Stop trying to bring your sexualized/dirty mindset and paint our culture that way. Everyone in our country understood the fun (not sexualized) metaphor of “cookie.”
The most common phrase commented was : “it’s cultural difference; they should respect boundaries”… and I agree.
But maybe for future songs, Hybe should not allow NWJNS to get into any songs that may possibly create chaos bc it’s unfair to the group and Korean citizens
The end. :)
I completely agree with you, this song is in korean and in korean there's no such thing as cookie being reffered to as a woman's sexual part so there's really no issues regarding the whole lyrics meaning. but this song was previously written in English, and the english meaning of the song is exactly what everyone said that's the only thing that I personally have issues on is that they could've atleast gave them a song that was written in English with more appropriate meanings for the girls to sing at their young age than abt a woman's sexual part. But other than that I completely agree with you

And they're really saying that they "made a cookie for the fans🥺"
...probably cant believe it themselves lol
hi guys, the english translations under this video are actually wrong
this is my first time listening to the full song, but i've seen a lot of people misinterpret the lyrics, understandably.
"made a little cookie... this treat" is actually just "cookie that i made, baked it for you, but you know that it ain't for free,"
"softer than a brownie" is just "[because it's] so soft"
"with chocolate chips, you know i wanna sprinkle all over and ruin your appetite" should be "i want to ruin your appetite using chocolate chips and sprinkles"
"let me hear you say you want it more" should be "let me hear your voice again"
literally not even a minute into the song, and you can tell that the creator of this video/translations is the one making the song dirty, not the song itself.
haerin's prechorus (?) line should be "no dinner, even if you're hungry, no drink, even if you're thirsty"
the next line should be "only the sweet taste, only the dessert taste.."
and then the next line continues it, "you know you'll only want it [the taste]"
and this is repeated,,
"pick your poison, it's on me" is "it's poison to you"
"the scent alone will make you see" should be "of course, it's different even from the smell"
"you can't stop at one bite with me" should just be "you can't stop at one bite"
"you'll lose your mind till you don't want other tastes" should just be "you'll lose your mind"
everything above is repeated...
"i make recipes you won't see anywhere else" is really "there's no recipe, you can't find it anywhere else", which is similar
everything after this, dani/hanni's lines are **wrong**, however the meaning does not much change
hyeins line after the.. dance break (?) "come and take a lookie", see now this one i can't really justify but it's something like "it's only at my place, come over (or come play, lit.)" which is probably not as dirty as it's intended to sound, but idk..
haerin's line after this is pretty much ALL wrong LMFAO
"i'll bake however much (you want, i guess), but if you get cavities, i don't know (/not my problem)"
and then it repeats, and it ends. i hope this helped!! i don't really take much of a stand on the lyrics or meaning myself, but if this helps you all to understand properly, that's great

I enjoy this song. It's catchy and gets stuck in your head. BUT (and its a big but) this was not a song that should have been given to them. It should have either been bought by another company or held back for a different group. I don't think the higher ups who signed off on this even took into consideration the fact that Hyein is 14 years old, and she's singing about a "cookie", which to western ears means she's singing about her vagina. HYBE really faultered on this one, and frankly, there's no excuse for it. They know they have western audiences, and they know what the lyrics alude to. Either stop signing children and debuting them, or give them appropriate songs 🤷🏼♀
they honestly shouldve just waited at least for newjeans to actually become adults in the first place to sing about stuff like this instead of just debuting them as children. Personally i don't think its right for them to be this young singing and dancing provocative as there are always going to be weirdos out there who like children who do god knows what to those fancams of them. They are very talented young women but they should've waited for them to be a bit older. Still like the song though its hard not to listen as its such a bop lol
In my opinion no k pop group should sing such a song. The whole lyrics are so extreme. Nothing you could ever sing in public…
