This place has changed so much. I have gone back to Mombasa several times but just did not bother to go to this area. I used to do morning runs through Mama Ngina drive( we also called it light house) with my buddies every morning at 530am back in the 80's; having run ins with dogs to the occasionaly crossing paths with huge monitor lizards and the ever annoying black crows( Makurabu). Man, nostalgia is creeping in!

Been awhile ever since i was last there. Mama Ngina has really changed i left when it wasn't furnished. That beautiful breeze... woow. I should be planning to go back have a reminiscent of the waterfront feeling. Nice piece.

It used to be called Azania Drive. I remember the Oceanic hotel, and the public swimming pool where I learned to swim, in the 1960's. Wonder if its still there...

Mama Ngina park has always been a place for leisure resting, walking, jogging and riding. It is famous for its fried cassava and all manner of fried potatoes and pastries. The project was designed to support a 24-hour economy and its layout includes a new jetty for water taxis.

That’s a beautiful area to shed stress and recreate/rejuvenate while walking. Taking in the blissful beauty and cultural education. We’ve come a long way and thanks for that space.

Considering the way we misuse and loot billions and go abroad Dubai, etc send our kids abroad for better life at expense, of hardworking Kenyans, Mombasa keep it good condition please.

Please keep it clean. There should be trash bins all over and signs telling people to keep it clean and not throw your trash anywhere otherwise there will be heavy fines. Keeping it clean is the only way to keep this beautiful place attractive. Also they should hire some people to do daily cleaning and inspections.

@@LIVKENYA That place you were standing looking over the sea, there should be a barrier. How can it be left like that and all it takes is someone to scare you and you fall on the rocks. Come on who is managing this place. Kenyans just fail on management and the little things that seem small are big if something happens. I thought there was a committee running this place. That open platform would be considered hazards in any other country. At least put a rail barrier

good coverage of all the features of the waterfront. i was wondering when you started ikifika time ya prayers it might be inconvenient lakini nimeona everything was thought about and there's a mosque. mashallah. its the 2nd one i've watched in your channel and am encouraged to check out the others.

Absolutely beautiful video seen by a wanainchi in New York. My children born in N America have been to the old Light House and were thrilled, despite their great life in America. At 74 I wish I can spend some days in Mombasa with my grand children. Kenya is developing fast. Unfortunately the Chinese will build condo skyscrapers on the waterfront, selling N American lifestyles for Chinese settlers here. The Kenyans have to be on guard else they will have Chinese colonial masters and loose their heritage. That Chinese gift comes with bondage. Hope Kenyan politicians don’t sell out the wanainchis for magendos.

LIV KENYA . The natural water front scene of 40 years ago light house has remained unchanged, fortunately. The Mama Ngina gentrification is very impressive with camel and horseback rides today that wasn’t there 40 years ago. The renowned Florida Night Club seems gone. The new cobblestone side walk resembles the board walk of Santa Monica, LA, where my grand kids have roller bladed like children do on Mama Ngina walkways today. Of course, the demography has changed from 40 years ago when Muhindi cars grabbed all parking slots and out on walks or patronizing mohogo, madafu, roasted maize vendors. Muzungus have never been a fixture in the former light house. Today the muhindis are almost extinct as most migrated to the West as the new breed of Western entrepreneurs and professionals. Despite their phenomenal success in the West, nostalgia of their Kenyan roots numbs them and many have set up philanthropies in East Africa as a debt they owe.
My old videos are too personal to be shared on mass media but I am sure there are plenty in the Kenya National archives.
