Sky Sky is a commercial song for a video game but it’s also Mamamoo dark history. The MV was shoot by G-friend’s director (a group famous about Sweet, cute, innocent style and syncronize dance - which is the opposite of Mamamoo😂). And the members themselve couldn’t look at the MV of Sky sky. They were on a TV show when the host turned on Sky Sky and Mamamoo were openly cringed and scream at the host to turn the video off (the audio is fine but they couldn’t look at the MV😂). They then said cute concept is hard and they admired Twice and G-friend for being able to nail that concept😂
I thought they did a good job with it too, but it was a big surprise to see them going for it when they really hadn’t before! I can understand cringing at yourself though I do it all the time 😂
@@SylverReacts It became an inside joke in the fandom. Mamamoo commercial songs are really good and they had performed their CF songs like woohoo, Gleam, Wanna be Myself at their concert multiple times (Gleam has very cool choreo so I hope you will do their concert version when you react to it)
To give you another context on Sleep In The Car: You know how companies "invest" on groups, so the first few years of pay these groups get after debut goes straight to their company mostly to pay the "debt" or the investment spent on them. Investments are so big, that sometimes groups don't even finish paying that debt esp if they don't do well. But for Mamamoo, a rare feat happened wherein a group from a small company was able to pay their debt just within 2 years. A huge factor of that was because of Mamamoo going to multiple festivals a day. I think 4-5? Or maybe more. That's bec after PSY (yes, the Gangnam Style guy and the CEO of Hwasa's current company), Mamamoo is the 2nd most requested artist in said events (university events for example). They were THAT busy. To the point that even after an accident, even if you can clearly see the members having bruises on their arms and even limping, Mamamoo still went to the event to not disappoint the fans/audience.
yeah for the context, they don’t have big budget for their MV like black pink (millions of dollars) so they always try to save as much as possible - which is why when they film the MV they would film for like 2-3 days straight without any break (literally no sleeping). That way, they can save money on renting location, equipments, sets, props, etc. They would each took turn sleep in the car while the other film their solo shots. (Moonbyul survived on like 4-5 coffees/day while filming her Solo MV which happened 48 hours non stop) So as the filming continue, if you watch their behind the scene, you will see the process of them slowly loosing their sanity. We actually have the footage of the origin of Sleep in the car on Mamamoo TV. It was at the end of an MV shooting, Solar and Wheein were exhausted and started singing diss songs (sarcastic sentences) to the camera while waiting for their turn😂
That’s pretty crazy that they have to do that, but also really shows how much they are driven and willing to do what it takes. And I need to check out that MMMTV episode 😂
"Midnight summer dream" is based off a story from when moonbyul was younger where she said a 'grandpa' ghost was haunting her at home and she hid under the covers The song's scary theme fits into the overall summer theme of this album because of south korean (and i think other nearby countries) beliefs that scary stories and horror movies are a perfect way to beat summer heat because of the chills they give
Moonbyul is the gamer of the group. When she took a picture of her desk, there were PS4 games at the background. One time she got addicted to Mario Kart. Solar plays Zelda on Switch.
"Mamamoo A history of crack songs" by Purple Hawke and reuploaded on Mooffin channel is an oldie but a good behind the scene to the making of Sleep in the car... and their other crack songs lol
Midnight Summer Dream is a song about a ghost story. The song's lyrics are based on a paranormal experience that Moon Byul went through. She admitted that in Red Moon's Tipsy Live, when she was once staying at her cousin's place during summer, she saw a grandpa ghost wearing Hanbok-like clothing. The experience fits RED MOON's theme of summer, since scary movies are often released during that season.
@@SylverReacts it's also about solar's experience with a hwasa doppelganger. one night, solar wakes up in the middle of the night and hwasa is standing at the door half naked, solar tells hwasa to go to sleep. later, she remembers that hwasa didn't sleep in the dorm that night...
By the way, also at the beggining of Mamamoo career, to boost their popularity and pay back their training debts, Mamamoo would perform like 4 fesstivals/ day. Consider each performance about 3 hours, their make up time, travel time (they had to went around the country for those festivals), the only time they could catch some sleep was when they were in the car travel from this location to the next.
In this case, for the song lyrics from Sleep in the Car, it's because Wheein and Solar were complaining about how long an MV needed to film the whole thing, and that they could only sleep in the car instead of going home whenever the other film their solo pieces of the MV, reason was because they had to do OT4 filming again after the solo parts. :)
Midnight summer dream, the rap potion is base on moonbyul dream of the ghost she see while sleep at her cousin’s house. Sleep in the car is the hip hop genre they do while dissing each other. Conversation between wheein and Solar that their CEO hear it and write into the song of sleep in the car. Sky sky was a commercial song for game, and it did sound bubble song of most of the kpop girl group song.
I was literally waiting for your reaction to Sleep in the car. I know you will like it. Funny how you mentioned I Miss You and Sleep in the car as your favorite b-side cause how different those songs are to each others
Yeah they’re so different, but together they’re a good way of showing off both sides of Mamamoo, the powerful emotional songs and the crackhead energy and swag songs 😆
Oh wow, i forgot all about that making of video for "sky sky". Haven't seen it in so long I believe the wire work from this got incorporated into both the 'taller than you' skit and part of solar's solo stage in the 4 seasons s/s concert A lot have said that the song sounds more like a gfriend song, and other comments have pointed out the songwriter (and producer) had worked on much of gfriend's discography, so it makes sense. And yes, mamamoo dislike the mv but love the song (the only 'live' i recall for it, though, is them singing it while goofing around years later in their '3 meals a day' spent at hwasa's grandmother's house) Some with an ear for production have pointed out how the track audio and production changes for moonbyul's parts, which again makes sense since those parts were likely left blank by the original producer and got put together by someone at rbw to go with byul's rap
Sky sky is such a different genre and it's kinda like a inside joke within the twitter sphere of moomoos. 🤭 However, it was great to see Mamamoo enjoy the song during their 3 Meals a Day special episode for their 7th anniversary hahaha. Also, exactly!! Mamamoo crack head songs have no business to go THIS HARD, totally was headbanging to it with you too. Loved your reaction as usual and I'm looking forward to more😁
Ooh I’ll have to keep an eye out for it when we get around there And Sleep in the car has definitely earned a place on my swag playlist permanently 😂 Thanks for the kind words and there’s so much more to come! 😊
You finally made it to my favorite (upbeat) b-side!!! Yes! 🎉🎉🎉 Love when they’re all swag and cool. They make everything sound so good. You haven’t seen their rendition of the Pokemon theme song right? It’s a hiphop remix of the Korean version of the Pokemon theme song. I feel like you’d love it.
Sky Sky's MV may be cringe but the song itself and the live performance is good. Too bad they didn't really perform it live as much. Sleep in the Car is another one of their conversations turned into a song. MMMTV has it documented. 😆
