This novel places the reader in the lives of the characters. Deeply moving. Fascinating read! Thank you.

Strange we live in a world where an interview with a Pulitzer prize winning author gets 15K views but crass videos and ideas get millions. Perhaps it has always been this way. Upside down.

+president camacho outdated, i don't think so. True movie stars are a very small circle and any successful movie belongs only to a franchise

+president camacho while there are many successful writers. People read them but see them as intellectuals not People they expect autographs from.

Good observation. It's indeed a topsey turvey world. Nothing makes sense any more.

Jhumpa Lahiri a name I am so fond of since I read her first book, Interpreter of Maladies. She doesn’t know how popular she is in Bangladesh and to those who here are readers. She should have had a ready answer why Gogol was chosen as a name. Russian writers were always popular with the Bengalis. Gogol as a writer stands out. We name our children Gogol, Leo, Pablo for having wide ranging interests in world literature. That is the genesis of such names.

How true. We derive ourselves from what we choose to intellectually expose ourselves to. A cousin was named Gorky, inspired by Maxim Gorky.

But Russian aside, I feel Gogol just sounds very inherently Bengali, idk if that makes sense

Gogol is a pretty common Bengali pet name. I had a friend called Gogol. Russian literature is pretty popular amongst upper and middle class Bengali people, especially in the 60s and 70s.

Gogol became a popular pet name for boys because of a child detective by that name. Bengali author Samaresh Basu created the character of Gogol, the child detective who was named thus by his parents( might have been grandparents). I remember reading the stories of Gogol's adventures as a child.
