Will I be capable of converting 3 Atlas SD9 Decoder Ready Engines to DCC model trains under 30 minutes?
This video is a follow up video to "Are the Atlas SD7/9 Decoder Ready if no one makes a Decoder that fits?" some people thought that last video was about not liking sound. It was about not being able to getting an ESU LokPilot Decoder with an E24 interface.

The Atlas Classic N Scale Model Trains SD-7 Locomotive is based on the prototype manufactured by EMD from February 1952 to November 1953. Utilizing a 1,500 hp engine and a longer underframe than the GP-7, the SD-7 was the first locomotive to use EMD's Flexicoil truck.
Built by EMD between 1954 and 1959, the SD-9 6-axle road switchers produced 1,750 HP and were used primarily for freight service throughout the US, both on main and secondary lines. Many SD-9 locomotives are still in service today, serving as road switchers for shortline & industrial railroads, and as yard switchers for major "Class 1" lines.

I had the same issue but simply used tweezers to snap it in and worked OK. Thanks for this one , Mike

Kapton tip. Cut a small piece of plastic and after you cut the tape, attach the end on the roll to the small piece of plastic. Now it's always easy to find the end of the tape and peel it back.

I put this same decoder in two of the New RS-3s Atlas just put out. Pretty much the same process. The RS-3 shell was harder to remove than usual also.

Nice install. I too had to unscrew the lightboard in my current release gp7 to install the loksound nano.

The E24 connector is mechanically a big step from the N18.
Zimo anounced decoders with this interface too.

That's one reason I like n scale . Easy decoder install. Also, my daughter stole that light from me and found out it does multi color too.

Eric, Those are easy and you did a good job. You should try to do some of the Atlas GP7s that are not DCC ready......John

I have moved on from the dark ages. I’m glad I no longer need to file frames to fit decoders

Do a follow up and let us know if the decoder is still working. I have had horrible experiences with ESU decoders. They always seem to be malfunctioning after about 6 months. I’m glad they are under warranty, but still, it gets replaced with another ESU decoder that maybe works or not. Maybe Walthers just buys garbage decoders from ESU at a cheap price.
