It's from paganism belief that the eye wards off evil auras or spirits
1. partaking in another religion, especially paganism practices is a sin (this is the main reason)
2. the symbol's meaning is haram, for simialar reasons it is haram to make/keep portraits of Allah/Muhammad
3. evil auras/spirits aren't real (in islamic belief) and believing in something higher up not in islam is a sin
