When in the Army I was issued one like this from District Support Unit, Lavarack Barracks Townsville for an exercise in North Queensland in 1988. I had been used to series 3 Land Rovers - what a difference !!! I absolutely loved it. The power, handling, comfort, legroom, Light steering efficient heater etc were all very welcome improvements. ‘My’ one was basically a loan vehicle, low mileage and not used for much offroad work. The Army used them mainly in the north/west of Australia from Perth up to Darwin and around down to Townsville, the theory being that Toyota dealers (and remote Station workshops) would always have a good stock of spares and repair skills if needed. Norforce was the Army ‘s main user of this type.
The tag on the doorway records Modifications during it’s service life. The ‘OG’ tag is actually the Centre Of Gravity tag for air lifting.
I found an engineless one a few years ago on a station in WA but have been unable to buy it so far...
I currently run a 75 Series Troopy and a Land Rover Perentie but would dearly love to restore an Army cruiser...
Wow so cool, thanks for your input mate and service to our country. Love the extra info.
cool
Part of history, thanks.
I like the old cruisers but what i really want is an ex army 6x6 mack
Or a 6X6 mog
Good timing I'm working a video of the history of the the Australian military 40 series troopy's
This one is not a Norforce, it is a Cargo model.
Thank you. Nice bit of history.
Imagine an OD Green sun visor ?
I could see this old girl wearing some Otani S-70 Extra Grip tyres. Of course you can't get Australian made Goodyear Xtra Grips anymore. Otani are great - made in Thailand.
Having said that, if the owner is a bit of s skeg then he'll be on bitumen and sand so a set of MRF Hi MIler's might be the go.
By the way - Norforce still exists and quietly goes about its work in the far north.
Visor with same patina, nice idea...
C/G centre of gravity for air lift and tie down.
Cool info cheers
Good luck 😃
Cheers
