For anyone wondering about the alignment, it's done on purpose. The detailed alignment process is available on the Gordie Howe International Bridge website. These video's are awesome and capture a moment in history. Thank you so much for sharing them!

I couldn't agree more. Definitely is a monumental time and we are witness to the Bridge being built. Of all the years of delay, City of Windsor haggling to put a more structured infrastructure in place than just the simplified hwy that the Govt' of Canada cheaply wanted in the first place, and Windsor fought back and rightly so. All of times we have waited and hoped that this damn bridge would be built in our lifetimes than one man define and decide our fates for us. As i have mentioned previously, this Bridge will put Windsor/Detroit on the map for sure. And now I can sit back on opening day with popcorn and watch what will become of the Ambassador Bridge and the haggling with the Govt of Canada, the City of Windsor that the younger Mouron will now contend with. I can't wait.

This footage is three weeks old a lot has been accomplished sense this shooting in reference only to the bridge, The last stay cables are installed, The last 12 Pre-cast slabs are installed, Tension is being added to the Canadian side stay cables to vertically raise & align the street level to match the US side. Being able to keep up with the shooting the progress every other day & having enough footage keeping in stride with that to post on the M.A.V. IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

They are bound to have had pre determined levels for each of the steel bays of the bridge so to be that far out coming towards closure does seem quite surprising. Of course they have the ability to adjust the tension on one side or the other or both but that does seem like a lot of unnecessary work. I’d love to hear from the Chief Engineer.

I'm no specialist but I'm pretty sure the stayed cables have some adjustment built in. You have to lower Canada side a bit, and raise the US part. About 10-15 cm. My understanding is that they have to tension the cables at the right specification, and when they do that they will adjust the height.

Nope, probably doesn't happen that way. If they have to loosen or tighten the suspension cables to make the deck heights match, something's drastically wrong in the design. All the cables have need to have the same tension, adjusting them for deck alignment isn't the way it's done (in my rudimentary judgment).

  • @viewfromthehighchair9391

It's weird because, a more recent video I watched seemed to sho the U.S. side slightly lower than the Canadian whereas this video shows the opposite. Great comment below made the most sense with respect to the addition of the remaining concrete slabs might balance things. I also wondered if the sides could be balanced through the guidelines holding the bridge up. I had not heard they were in any way adjustible; however, that would make some sense if they were...even slightly.
All that said, I am confident that these people know what they're doing and all will be right in the end. Looking forward to seeing the joining and then the finished bridge when it is put into operation. Great job by all involved and a testament to human ingenuity.
