She's telling the truth, her hanging herself was a accident. The main thing players didn't realize going through the game and seeing her death is her bloody fingers. She tried to get it off, willing to sacrifice her nails and fingers to do so, but failed in the end.

Also, the fact is that it makes zero sense for the common ending to be the true ending, because that ending is in itself the biggest loophole ever, simply because in having Monika be able to come back so easily, it deconfirms the entire concept of deletion or of the fact that the Dokis ever had died. And there is no reason Sayori wouldn’t have just constrained Monika for interfering at the end.
