- We continue the Documentation Consultation Series with Gina Della Penna, a licensed mental health counselor in New York. We review a LOT of info:
-what to include in your notes
-how to consider the types of people who might read your notes
-how to talk with clients about notes
-how to know EXACTLY how much time you should plan to spend writing notes each week.

Thank you! I am new to providing psychotherapy. I have recently caught up with my notes and find this to be helpful. I find that the notes I submitted in the beginning were really through and detailed. Recently my notes have been better.I realized that my notes don't need to be a conversation and can just highlight the key points that were discussed like you mentioned here. I like how you said writing out the intervention first and then how the client responds. I do that similarlyin my direct social work job and can transfer that over to my therapy practice. I will also keep this in mind when treatment has become more definite. I'm still in engagement mode with my clients.
So glad you found this helpful for making your notes easier to write!
This consult was very helpful in thinking about my own struggles with getting behind in notes and thinking about how I can better structure my time and note itself to be more efficient. Thank you Maelisa
Great to hear that, Cathleen! Let us know how it goes if you try some new techniques :)
I hope this channel comes back. I've learned the hard way how important documentation is. 😭
We are back now!
Where are the samples?
I do groups all day...
