  • TAKE THE FIELD
    Season 1 - Episode 5
    "Texas & Oklahoma"
    Presented by UltimateDrillBook.com
    Directed by David Parrella
The Rid River Rivalry is arguably the best rivalry in college football. The University of Texas Longhorn Band & The Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band travel annually to Dallas, TX for the game where they are met with a 50/50 stadium split. While the fans and players may not get along, it is the shared experience and great relationship between the bands that is really special. The College Marching team joins the Longhorn band for Friday rehearsal and game in Dallas in the fifth episode of our documentary series, "TAKE THE FIELD: The College Marching Experience".

They forget to mention that the Texas State Fair is right outside the game as well. For me that's the cherry on top making it the best game in college football. There was nothing better than grabbing a corn dog and jumping on the ferris wheel after the game as a kid.

Civic Games & Sports - The UT band director clearly stated that in the early part of the video.

Civic I agree about the whole experience, but,Army Navy is just a little more special. With Texas getting good again, game will get better. This monster game is SO much better than Auburn and what's their name game, think it is called the rust bowl. Hell Texas Texas A and M WAS just as good. Them idiots screwed up college ball by not playing that one.

I am a Longhorn fan and have purposely sat at the 50 yard line several times. It may seem bitter between the sides, see very few problems, it's fun to dish it out and receive it. It's a rivalry that to me is unsurpassed, maybe equaled. I usually have a new Sooner friend or two by the end of the game. If you can't handle getting heckled this is not the game for you. It's in fun. Some take it to seriously and get their feelings hurt. 99% may be passionate for their team but respect the fans of the other besides playful chants and remarks. The teams now seriously try to destroy each other. The show is like no other, pre game at the fair and the taunting back and forth to the experience at the Cotton Bowl. Just an incredible atmosphere and game.

I don’t think all of it is in good fun though, there are some people who are really serious about hating the other team. Yeah some of it might be in good fun but I’ve seen some pretty mean people. But, go Longhorns! Nothing is fun without a rivalry

I got a slight chuckle at the band members complaining about being booed - my college band had rocks, half-full beer cans, and anything else that wasn't tied down hurled at us when we visited Mountaineer Field in Morgantown 😂😂

I bleed Crimson and am still reveling in Saturday’s win after trailing 28-7. OU Texas would not be what it is without TLB! They are fantastic and Texas Fight and The Eyes of Texas are staples for the RRS. I enjoy them as much as I do The Pride. Both bands make this game special.

As a southern, born in the USA indigenous Citizen from Southern New Orleans, I migrated to Oklahoma in 2003. As with this, I was indoctrinated into the atmosphere of OU. Now, with this, a family Rivalry broke out in our home: me being an LSU fan, and my wife, an Okie girl, and an OU fan. However, I soon learned that our family rivalry came second to the States of Texas VS Oklahoma Rivalry.
I can not express enough how wonderful it is to see how State Neighbors join together to represent each State University in a showdown at a football game. Truly, we are brothers and sisters, and the colors of our universities blend to bring out our pride for each state and each other. Together, we are Great, and this leads to the excitement and pride that I hope will live on for future generations to experience. Go Boomer Sooners! Go Long Horns! We love you guys.

I have a suggestion: Maybe the Texas Longhorn Band and the Pride of Oklahoma perform the national anthem TOGETHER at the Red River Showdown!
And also there could be a stadium wide chant of BOOMER! SOONER! TEXAS! FIGHT!

As a Razorback band alumni, I have a story from 1973 when I was there. Texas came to Fayetteville. We lost. So a bunch of students threw beer and whiskey bottles at Texas' band bus which injured a couple of UT band members. Frank Broyals and the Arkansas President vowed to find out who did it. When they found the perpatrators, they told them if they would go down to Austin, Texas and apologise, they wouldn't kick them out of school. During a Texas pep rally, the perps apologised and then were quickly kicked off campus by the UA President. Arkansas proved sportsmanship is job one, all other activites are put on the back burner. Go Hogs. Sooowee Pig, Arkansas.

Neither an OU or Texas fan. But as a Texan I always laugh about the OU football team. Every year Oklahoma’s football team is comprised predominantly Texas football players. One year I looked it up in the early 2000s and 76 of the 100 on the OU roster were from Texas.

    • @andre86w

And Texas named their stadium after an Oklahoman and former Sooner. What's your point? Texas is a huge state. There's something called a scholarship limit. Texas can't have them all. OU is a better program overall. Can't blame Texas kids for wanting to play for a better football program.

Oklahoma has won 4 of the last of these games. This year only one player sang the "Eyes of Texas" after the game. The Sooners have blackened the eyes of Texas and are dominating this series.

David Wadsworth - The OU fans are just as obnoxious as the UT fans. In this video, the spotlight was on the Longhorn Band marching to the stadium, and the OU fans reacting. Had they shown the Pride of Oklahoma marching to/in the stadium, you would have seen the UT fans react the same way. Btw, I have firsthand knowledge of this because I am an alumnus of the Pride of Oklahoma.
