Who said he was under rated. He had a very successful career and well appreciated by the people of India. If you are comparing him to Rafi then please dont, they were both excellent ( as was Mukesh ) in their own ways and all were successful. Just look at the list of songs sung by Manna Dey ( in every R K film ) and others.
But I do not think he was under rated. He has a different class of fans. He was the highest rated contemporary male singer honoured with Padmabhusan, (exception may be Talat Mehmood). Even Rafi saab was also Padmasree. But this honour may be sometimes funny and shallow as Kishore dada received none.

It was All India Radio award ceremony to a couple of great artists in Hyderabad, it was in mid 90's. I had to receive the award on behalf of Padmavibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal as she was away on tour abroad. Naturally i was sitting in the first row. After a while, a man sitting beside me turned to me and asked, "ಅರೇ you receiving award?". "Yes", i said, "on behalf of Dr Gangubai Hangal..." He was so overwhelmed just hearing the name! To my utter surprise then i discovered it was MANNA DEji!!! The real legend of the music world.

It is beyond doubt that the song is a unique, uncomparable and perhaps impossible to have such thing in future... I find no words in Dictionary to admire the singing by Shree Manna DeyJi. At the same time, the dance by a non Indian Dancer PADMINI PRIYDARHINI (MALAYALI) is equally uncomparable. I haven't seen such dance with perfect expressions, and music matching "DANCE MUDRAS" in any other film before or after this "Dil Hi To Hai" film. I watch this dance almost two time a week.
good listening is necessary, it's not that you listen to even 7 or above tracks. It's interesting to give tribute to the creators of something and people are not doing anything on the similar scale. I do love it and almost all the older tracks plus I love Indian Classical music also and western classical would be hard for them to even assess. it's music and ought to be good. Who said he was under rated. He had a very successful career and well appreciated by the people of India. If you are comparing him to Rafi then please dont, they were both excellent ( as was Mukesh ) in their own ways and all were successful. Just look at the list of songs sung by Manna Dey ( in every R K film ) and others.

It was All India Radio award ceremony to a couple of great artists in Hyderabad, it was in mid 90's. I had to receive the award on behalf of Padmavibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal as she was away on tour abroad. Naturally i was sitting in the first row. After a while, a man sitting beside me turned to me and asked, "ಅರೇ you receiving award?". "Yes", i said, "on behalf of Dr Gangubai Hangal..." He was so overwhelmed just hearing the name!
To my utter surprise then i discovered it was MANNA DEji!!! The real legend of the music world.

It is beyond doubt that the song is a unique, uncomparable and perhaps impossible to have such thing in future... I find no words in Dictionary to admire the singing by Shree Manna DeyJi. At the same time, the dance by a non Indian Dancer PADMINI PRIYDARHINI (MALAYALI) is equally uncomparable. I haven't seen such dance with perfect expressions, and music matching "DANCE MUDRAS" in any other film before or after this "Dil Hi To Hai" film.
I watch this dance almost two time a week.

I do love it and almost all the older tracks plus I love Indian Classical music also and western classical would be hard for them to even assess. it's music and ought to be good.
