Faust was a popular indie title when it was being published but there was a decades-long gap until this present renewed interest. The 2010 series of Zatanna: it only lasted 16 issues but each is a minimum $10, then if you want the Adam Hughes and Brian Bolland limited or variant covers you're into anywhere from $25 to $125 each.
One modern run that demands a premium on all issues is INVINCIBLE. You’d be lucky to be paying under $10 a book in LCSs today. With season 2 coming it’s bound to get even more expensive.
The 2010-11 Zatanna series: 16 issues, none of them keys, yet when I started collecting the Bolland variants I was shocked to learn that you gotta pay through the teeth even for the A covers!
cool topic. Also, Barbie, Spawn between 100 and 250, last 50 issues of 90s Ghost Rider, or any Romance book -but you see less of those in discount bins
At a recent "fill a short box" sale at a local shop I picked up about 30 or 40 issues of that sonic run. It's all thanks to this channel that I even realized they were worth picking up.
Never thought too much about Sonic's book. I know I never see it in dollar bins, that's for sure. Just checked and found it was published consistently for 24 years and 290 issues! WHOA. My heart goes out to you and all the other Sonic collectors!
Great video James, it's funny you mentioned Sandman cause I just brought Sandman#1 NM for $100 cause I just couldn't pass it up plus I got one of my grail books Amazing Spiderman#129 CGC 5.0 and I got it way under fair market value.
I second that notion on Sonic very addicting I was going over some of the ones I have that are mostly newsstands and I picked up a number one not to long ago from one of the series’. If it’s in good shape I try to grab it. Knuckles the echidna is another run that is pretty cool!!
Great video. Let’s have more like it. I’m tired of people telling me on videos that ASM 300 is valuable or that Action 1 or Detective 27 are good books to have. Keep showing the books that we might actually have that might have a little value to them.
I just completed my Cyberfrog run, and it took me two years. I would pay between 20-25 per book. I'm also working on my Scud and Static run. I have a better chance of finding an AF15 lol.
I've found that many of the run fillers for any of the Star comics can be -pricey-. Thundercats, He-Man, Care bears (some of these are actually really costly for what they are). Ewoks, Droids, can get silly for what they are also.
A couple adds I would recommend keeping an eye out for: Simpsons and Futurama - I had some of these in perfect condition and they did VERY well on eBay. I'm pleased you had Sabrina and Sonic in there. It's also worth noting that when new comics are $5 - then back-issues at $8 are not unreasonable. In fact, the fact that dollar bins even exist is what's really interesting. There have been dollar bins since the 90's and it's strange in some ways. MANY years ago we had the 25cent bin - but comics were retailing new around 50 cents. So the ratio doesn't maintain itself. Oh - I have about a 15-25 or so Sonics - in extremely high-grade. Time to eBay those I guess :)
I'm glad you mentioned Batman Beyond. such an underrated character but i love Terry McGinnis. i hate how it only ran for 3 seasons with a few animated movies. Also for Static. i grew up watching these characters on the screen when WB Kids was around lol.
That Batman beyond series is awesome I have a bunch of books from that series. My favorite is #5 the first appearance of shriek. I’ve seen that book go for $20 - $40 dollars and low grades go at $6-$15. My favorite BMB villain and such a good cover for him too. Underrated book.
TMNT v4 from Mirage is an absolute nightmare to collect, especially if you want the last 4 issues. They regularly go for hundreds if not thousands each!
I've found that Dark Horse Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1-50 to be between 10-20 dollars for really good quality fillers in the series. Now there are a couple of keys in the run but everyone seems to want this series and these characters to become Canon with Disney. I've got all but 4 left to get and hoping to be done soon. PS really love your channel.
Great coverage on an important collecting topic. I do, however, need to point out that the Veronica solo run gets quite expensive the later in the series it goes. Print run plays a huge issue in many of the presented titles.
The Adam Hughes cover run on Catwoman is always pricey, but for me it’s the tail end of the original Marvel run of Transformers. I’m trying to get 56-80 to replace my childhood copies, which I read until they fell apart.
I am sorry but the two copies of faust vol 2 you put on screen #7 & #9 granted the only issues I own for vol 2 I have 2 for vol 1 but I pay 60p each for my issues
Catwoman Vol. 3, not known for the keys, but endless banger covers from Adam Hughes, including the most iconic mugshot to ever grace the cover of comics!
Harley Quinn and Sirens are akin to the Catwoman and Zatanna Hughes runs - I know those are all about the cover art so maybe the don’t fall neatly into the “filler” category, but those are issues that often run well over $10 even for the non-legendary covers.
I was very surprised at how much filler issues of Booster Gold Vol 2 go for. Great read. I also completed my run of Firestorm V2, and some of the upper issues are scarce and run into the $5-$10 range.
Another one is spawn, mainly in the 200s and onward because a lot of those issues actually have quite low print counts that drives the price up. Good thing I’m collecting the 100 and under where it was printed a lot more 😂
I always liked Sabrina, but it kills me the fanbase she has. Personally, I've always been a Jughead guy. Interesting and informative video, brother! I promise, if I ever get out East, I'ma swing by and check out the shop!
I got excited for a minute, then I checked eBay. The prices you quote are LCS prices. On eBay, many of the books you mention are still under $2 each. Postage runs the price up to your numbers, though. If your point is these are the prices you have to pay (LCS or eBay + postage), you are right on. However, if you are looking to sell these issues, you can only get a couple dollars each on a good day.
I don't consider any Marvel or DC book "rare" or "scarce" due to low print run. It's Marvel and DC! Those books are all over the place!! Faust I can see because it's an indy book that's adult in nature and 30 years old. Glad I have the entire run!
I remember not so long ago hearing that the Gold Key comic heroes MAGNUS and TUROK had a bit of a loyal following and some issues could get pricey. If true, would those be along the lines of what you shared in this video?
Mint Hunter Comics, how did you get a custom Dr Fate statue? I would love to have a statue with the Punisher standing on a pile of skulls and zombies cause that would be sick. Please tell me where I can get a custom statue made at and about how much it might cost, thanks.
I agree those archie Sonics and tails knuckles books are tough to find. My son loves them and reads the crap out of them. I recently got him a tails 1 at a show for 15$ and it's now cover less lol they just dont survive
I had no idea until recently, but Futurama Comics have a higher value than you'd expect. The first issue is a $50 book, # 2 - 10 are $25 each, and # 11 - 50 are $20 each. After that, the rest of the run is in the $8 - $12 range. And I can't tell you how many times I'll see Futurama books in a dollar bin, and I grab them every time. It's odd that most of the Bongo Simpsons Comics and spinoff books don't have a high value beyond the early key first appearances, but the Futurama/Simpsons miniseries are $25 a book. Why Futurama demands the higher value, I couldn't tell you. Ditto for Rick & Morty Volume 1. I was lucky enough to grab the first twelve issues at an antique store for cover price ($4), and I was shocked to find that there wasn't a single issue valued lower than $10. # 2 is $40, # 3 is $30, $ 4 is $25, # 5 is $20, # 6 - 8 are $15 each, and # 9 - 12 are $10 each. Everything else up to # 20 are in the $8 range, and after that it settles down to $5 - $6. I was disappointed to find that my # 1 was a 3rd print (1st print goes for $200), but even the reprints have a shockingly high value. 2nd print is $90, 3rd and 4th are $25, and 5th print is $10. I'm kind of shocked that you didn't bring up Marvel's G.I. Joe or Transformers series. There isn't a single issue of Transformers that's valued less than $10, and every issue from # 50 - 80 go between $12 - $50. With G.I. Joe, most of the run from # 31 - 99 are basic $5 - $6 books (although there are a handful of minor keys in that area, too, like # 93 as the reveal of Snake Eyes's face), the nice money books are the first 30 issue (average price $18 - $25) and anything after # 100 (average price $10 - $40), with the first issue and last issue being the big boy books. And most of those books that I do own came out of 50 cent bins in the early 2010s.
And that right there is the thrill of the hunt; putting your knowledge to the test to see you can outsmart the House. Although most of the time you win big its pure blind luck, and that's even more fun. ; )
Gotham Adventures WAS stupid expensive to collect....but i've got all 60 issues! Some of them just for the covers alone have really driven up the price. The main reason that Sonic is STUPID expensive to collect is because Ken Penders, the majority writer of the earliest issues is very sue-happy when anyone wants to even use a single one of his characters. He's not well liked in the fan community and is a huge reason why Archie (license now belongs to IDW) never reprinted them all in a collection.
Maybe it's because I'm mainly a online shopper but these are a bit high for fillers: The Walking Dead fillers from 1-110 can go for $5-25 CAD each, the earlier you go the rarer they are and it is a popular run so I kind of get it TMNT IDW 2011 run, filler under 100 seem to be $5-10 CAD, maybe this is an online pricing issue for me though Then there is any 80s to early 90s Judge Dredd american reprint stuff, see these in dollar bins all the way up to $12 each, I don't think people know what to price these lol Moon Knight filler is also high currently, no idea if it'll go down or not, I assumed it would have already. I blame Vol 1's sweet covers
When Moon Knight Fever was at it's peak prior to the release of the Disney Plus show, I'd see convention dealers pricing random issues of Volume 1 and even the Marc Spector series at $15 -$20 a pop. This is the one time in my life as a collector that I succumbed to FOMO, as started buying Moon Knight books not because I wanted them but "I need to grab them when they're cheap, because I do eventually want them later the market's gonna price me out." Moon Knight books have significantly cooled in the last year, even though their price guide values haven't really changed, and I just recently grabbed Moon Knight Vol. 1 # 2 - 5 for $5 each, which is well below their current FMV. Heck, I just saw a # 1 at 9.2 sell on eBay last week for $50, which may be the lowest I've ever seen one go for.
Teen Titans Go (of no relation to the newer show) is creeping up in price as well as a lot of the Archie Sonic stuff just gettin goofy Surprised Sandman 18 didn't make the list, that's a 10$ in mid grade, but damn if it ain't worth it And boiii check them comic shops soon, Quinn just put out a Kickstarter for the complete Faust bible and it did well enough for them to work with comic shops and Black Mask to get a hardcover out for the slowpokes later this year (hopefully) haha
Haha I feel that pain my man, as a sonic fanboy myself, I kick myself ever day for selling it for nothing to buy magic. Ironically that's the first comic I ever bought with my money, 128, which I recently picked back up, and boy did I feel that sting 💀
I find it odd that great books aren't considered worth chasing but stick key on a z lister and it has instant worth. Some recent Savage Dragons seem consistently overpriced. I'm guessing those are the ones with nudity in them.
Is sandman better than maus. Those raw magazines had print runs of 4 or 5 thousand copies. Maybe that's the book to spec on even sonic is garbage compared to raw

The prices are insane. Individual non-key issues are like 30 bucks on ebay for a single issue. Glad I pulled the trigger and bought issues 1-50 early.
I got lucky I got the full run of end of all things for under $40. And the last issue for like $25
The 2010-11 Zatanna series: 16 issues, none of them keys, yet when I started collecting the Bolland variants I was shocked to learn that you gotta pay through the teeth even for the A covers!
It's them covers man 🤤
Haha I just commented this as well! Never see any issue under 10$ 😪💸
I was just going to comment this. I remember years ago going after them and I am glad I have all 16. No Bolland variants though :(
cool topic. Also, Barbie, Spawn between 100 and 250, last 50 issues of 90s Ghost Rider, or any Romance book -but you see less of those in discount bins

Well that explains why it's such a pain collecting some of the runs I'm interested in. There are at least three on your list!
The 2nd Amazing Fantasy run. You have the three major keys and the fillers can run between 5 and 10 dollars.
No mention of Spawn? A lot of them go for crazy money for no reason lol
Your content is great, keep on! :)
Great video James, it's funny you mentioned Sandman cause I just brought Sandman#1 NM for $100 cause I just couldn't pass it up plus I got one of my grail books Amazing Spiderman#129 CGC 5.0 and I got it way under fair market value.

Zatanna 1-16 by Paul Dini is ridiculously price, never see any issue under 10$ at any comic shop I go to, and I love me some zatanna 😅💸
Great video. Let’s have more like it. I’m tired of people telling me on videos that ASM 300 is valuable or that Action 1 or Detective 27 are good books to have. Keep showing the books that we might actually have that might have a little value to them.

Pretty happy to actually have that GCS completed run!!
A couple adds I would recommend keeping an eye out for: Simpsons and Futurama - I had some of these in perfect condition and they did VERY well on eBay. I'm pleased you had Sabrina and Sonic in there.

Kesel and Dodson's Harley run was pretty cool. Art changed towards the end and got a little more grim though
That Batman beyond series is awesome I have a bunch of books from that series. My favorite is #5 the first appearance of shriek. I’ve seen that book go for $20 - $40 dollars and low grades go at $6-$15. My favorite BMB villain and such a good cover for him too. Underrated book.

I have a few issues of the batman beyond second volume run. Had no idea the books sold that well
Alan Moore's Supreme run
Great coverage on an important collecting topic. I do, however, need to point out that the Veronica solo run gets quite expensive the later in the series it goes. Print run plays a huge issue in many of the presented titles.
The Adam Hughes cover run on Catwoman is always pricey, but for me it’s the tail end of the original Marvel run of Transformers. I’m trying to get 56-80 to replace my childhood copies, which I read until they fell apart.
Also Adam Hughes run on Wonder Woman!
The Boys is a good example (the last 2/3 of that run is hard to find and always pricier than you’d expect). Cry for Dawn is another one.
I am sorry but the two copies of faust vol 2 you put on screen #7 & #9 granted the only issues I own for vol 2 I have 2 for vol 1 but I pay 60p each for my issues

Dont Sleep on a VERy early Sonic appearance in a short comic book-Ad inside Disney Adventures Vol2 #1 (Michael Jordan Cover)
I was very surprised at how much filler issues of Booster Gold Vol 2 go for. Great read. I also completed my run of Firestorm V2, and some of the upper issues are scarce and run into the $5-$10 range.

Sonic collector here and collecting Archie and idw at the same time is a pain
Animaniacs, PowerPuff Girls Vol. 1, Pinky and the Brain
Great video. I'll keep my eyes out.
Awesome video.
Love the video. Aside from ASM I have exactly none of these. 😂😂.

How about the Adam Hughes Wonder Woman covers? Not exactly a full series run, but still a run nonetheless.
Mint Hunter Comics, how did you get a custom Dr Fate statue? I would love to have a statue with the Punisher standing on a pile of skulls and zombies cause that would be sick. Please tell me where I can get a custom statue made at and about how much it might cost, thanks.
How does this not have more vews
I agree those archie Sonics and tails knuckles books are tough to find. My son loves them and reads the crap out of them. I recently got him a tails 1 at a show for 15$ and it's now cover less lol they just dont survive
Boils down to whatever you enjoy collecting the most, you'll shell out some cash to get 'em.

And that right there is the thrill of the hunt; putting your knowledge to the test to see you can outsmart the House. Although most of the time you win big its pure blind luck, and that's even more fun. ; )
Spawn 100-250
I think the psylocke mini series 1-4 still cost a fortune and could be considered for this list or a part 2.
Wolverine always seems to be expensive as well
Ice Cream Man is like this for the first 20 or so issues. Before they made 80 store variants a book.
Yeppppp
I knew some of this but not all of this. TY
Putting together a 9.8 Zatanna run of 16 issues plus all variants is very pricey.
I feel your Sonic pain
I feel like Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil run could eventually attain this status. Tremendous run!
Gotham Adventures WAS stupid expensive to collect....but i've got all 60 issues! Some of them just for the covers alone have really driven up the price. I think Immortal Hulk fits in this list. Some books go for 25-30 raw with no big reason. Great story and great art .
I just completed X-Men Adventures vol.1. All for the exception of issue 3 are high grade. Still looking for #1 Newsstand.
Like any 90s image stuff? Never hear you talk about it
Maybe it's because I'm mainly a online shopper but these are a bit high for fillers:
The Walking Dead fillers from 1-110 can go for $5-25 CAD each, the earlier you go the rarer they are and it is a popular run so I kind of get it
TMNT IDW 2011 run, filler under 100 seem to be $5-10 CAD, maybe this is an online pricing issue for me though
Then there is any 80s to early 90s Judge Dredd american reprint stuff, see these in dollar bins all the way up to $12 each, I don't think people know what to price these lol
Moon Knight filler is also high currently, no idea if it'll go down or not, I assumed it would have already. I blame Vol 1's sweet covers

What a wonderful idea for a video. Cool stuff James. Lets not
forget about Usagi Yojimbo( fantagraphics run)
Teen Titans Go (of no relation to the newer show) is creeping up in price as well as a lot of the Archie Sonic stuff just gettin goofy
Surprised Sandman 18 didn't make the list, that's a 10$ in mid grade, but damn if it ain't worth it
And boiii check them comic shops soon, Quinn just put out a Kickstarter for the complete Faust bible and it did well enough for them to work with comic shops and Black Mask to get a hardcover out for the slowpokes later this year (hopefully) haha
Haha I feel that pain my man, as a sonic fanboy myself, I kick myself ever day for selling it for nothing to buy magic. Ironically that's the first comic I ever bought with my money, 128, which I recently picked back up, and boy did I feel that sting 💀
They're going that much?
...
I bought a run of ASM in Mylars for $2 a book at a Charlotte convention several years ago.
Guess it's a good time to sell my Harley Quinn run!
Darkhawk
DCs MOTU run is not cheap or easy to secure either
I find it odd that great books aren't considered worth chasing but stick key on a z lister and it has instant worth. Some recent Savage Dragons seem consistently overpriced. I'm guessing those are the ones with nudity in them.
Nice, what about the matt fraction Hawkeye run? I feel like that one would qualify too
How about The Walking Dead? Those two can be very expensive.
100 bullets is so underrated.
Is sandman better than maus. Those raw magazines had print runs of 4 or 5 thousand copies. Maybe that's the book to spec on even sonic is garbage compared to raw
One word Spawn.
i love u too
I'll have to check the PC for some of these.
Marvel's run of g i joe, last 50 issues are stupid for price
ASM all the way lol🙃
One more cashier ring sound and I would’ve gave you a thumb down 😅
