All of OG Esports switched to grass boost after Luminosity all switched to grass boost today... An entire RLCS lobby with grass boost which doesn't display very well from far away... when do we consider it a problem?
If you're going to tackle the boost problem, you gotta address the decal and trails problem as well. There are color theories that suggest camouflage works in real-world applications. Consider the notion of matching your opponents' color schemes or even the arena color schemes or the color theory that darker colors or even neutral colors are less registered by the eye. Then, consider the trails being invisible. See, you want to tackle 1 aspect of a much larger issue. Cause the issue you're tapping into is more about what gives the opponent an edge, even if it is small. Why not also tackle trash talking? Cause that could also give an opponent an edge. Screaming on LAN that gives an edge. Camouflage your car to match your opponents, that gives an edge. See, you can't just target boost and be fine with all of these other aspects that give a team an edge.
I've actually always used the ones that are least visible because it helps me focus on my car during aerials. The other side of that is that you don't get the visual cues that you are staying on boost too long.
Through BM I use black ion as it's invisible and OEM C (not the v2) as engine sound as it's extremely silent and helps me to hear better what's going on around me, especially people trying to demo from behind. But I don't see any reason to ban anything like that anywhere as that won't give a major and annoying hit to the competition like brokenly OP characters in fighting games do for example.
Engine sound isn't talked about enough. Some car sounds make me feel like I'm going to slow or too fast. Take R3MX vs Takumi, for example. R3MX sounds like a supercar/hypercard while the Takumi makes me think of an Evo or Skyline or something. I imagine a tuner car would be about the right power to run around the field without sacrificing control (even though it's all in my head haha)
The issue with engine sound is that you may also diminish the capacity of your teammates to hear you, for instance if a play slows down on defense a teammate may not readily realize you have just arrived behind him.
It’s funny I never cared about engine noises or having ridiculous boost like monsoon & etc on until I got better. Now I have to try my hardest to tune out a teammate with the Scarab, Cat or Helicopter engine.

0:06 okay, this invisible boost idea/controversy has been talked about before, and the pros dismissed this idea because apparently, pros are so good and in tuned with the game that they can detect speed regardless of boost... SQUISHY was one of those pros that dismissed this idea in the past.... now that they are no longer number one, they start making excuses, conveniently changing their position... sorry not sorry but I'm on the side of NOT banning it. If yall were good about it in the past, then yall should be good about it now. Because here is the thing along with the boost being invisible, the idea of color decal being used to your advantage was raised. Matching opponent colors or a midtone or even going super dark... all of these techniques needs to be raised... EVEN INVISIBLE TRAILS needs to be addressed. Camouflage you're entire car with invisible boost and trail. Breh... cmon, what? Are we gonna ban all these techniques? We all gonna play in orange and blue cars with standard or alpha boosts?
This is an interesting topic which extends far beyond just boost visuals! My personal rule of thumb is that this type of "advantage" is fine so long as: - (req 1) it does NOT specifically target an individual player - (req 2) it does NOT come at the expense of the audience So I am OK with: - Players using short names to get a smaller, more eclipsable nameplate. - A 2v2 octane + fennec team swapping engine sounds halfway through a multi-game series. But I am NOT OK with: - Players using decals of the opposite team's color to confuse opponents, because this may also confuse the audience (violation of req 2). - Players buying an identical model of their opponent's headset and listening to all engine sounds and determine which is least audible (violation of req 1) - Given a colorblind opponent, using a car designed to camouflage itself against their particular form of colorblindness (violation of req 1, potential violation of req 2) This makes me NOT OK with the "boost advantage" because it comes as the expense of the audience (violation of req 2). I think an appropriate fix would be to give spectator client the option to visually force standard boost on all cars.

Bubbles is more visible! Black ion is since the beginning the invisible boost
S11 Silver boost is also pretty invisible when feathering
even though sideswipe doesn't have much of a pro player spectrum, if you tap boost and not hold it the autumn boost is impossible to see
I feel you and Squishy together is just cheating in general 😅
I'll use the silver season reward from last season from time to time as it's also really hard to see.
I'ma be honest. I've seen people using bubble boost, and if you can't notice it, that's kinda on you. I think all items should be usable.
My personal rule of thumb is that this type of "advantage" is fine so long as:
- (req 1) it does NOT specifically target an individual player
- (req 2) it does NOT come at the expense of the audience
So I am OK with:
- Players using short names to get a smaller, more eclipsable nameplate.
- A 2v2 octane + fennec team swapping engine sounds halfway through a multi-game series.
But I am NOT OK with:
- Players using decals of the opposite team's color to confuse opponents, because this may also confuse the audience (violation of req 2).
- Players buying an identical model of their opponent's headset and listening to all engine sounds and determine which is least audible (violation of req 1)
- Given a colorblind opponent, using a car designed to camouflage itself against their particular form of colorblindness (violation of req 1, potential violation of req 2)
This makes me NOT OK with the "boost advantage" because it comes as the expense of the audience (violation of req 2).
I think an appropriate fix would be to give spectator client the option to visually force standard boost on all cars.
MANHATTAN boost in black is almost invisible to others
I don’t play rocket league but I’m surprised that people are even allowed to use customized cars in professional play
LETH **AND** SQUISHUMS? 😍🥰
Why is no one talking about how they just nerfed bubbles slightly recently and added that rocket/flash to bubbles to show when it's boosting?
