Jeremy Corbyn - Response to the Chilcot Inquiry report

  • This is the entire speech I just gave to the House of Commons in response to the Chilcot Inquiry report into the Iraq war.
It is only a provisional response - as I only received the report this morning - but I will be giving a further response later today.
The intervention in Iraq was a tragic decision which lead to the deaths of 179 British personnel and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis - while destabilising the region and increasing the threat of terrorism to our own country.

The only politician who doesn't make me feel physically ill. If he manages to stay leader, Labour can have my vote.

Such a great speech, from a great man. Always on the right side, acts using his strong moral code. Love that he didn't rub anyone's face in the fact that they did something stupid, like agreeing to an illegal war, he just pointed out that lessons ought to be learned. Corbyn for PM!

I thought very much the same myself while watching the debate. Especially with Hilary Benn who even blamed the UN and said not one word for the people who died in the war, not even for our own forces.

+Phillip Passmore I have to agree with you on that one.
It only hit me on Tuesday night, the night before the release of Chicott (I knew, Chilcott was to be released this month, but got the date wrong), that it will be incredibly hard to get rid of a decent Labour Leader, who has always condemned the Iraqi War, once, Chilcott was released.
A man who has always condemned war, BEFORE, negotiations taking place, and a man who always seeks a peaceful means to settle disputes first.
Most of us knew, Chilcott, was going to be scathing on, Blair, and his Government, but, Chilcott, went much further than most people realized, myself included.

+Celtic Saint . I am not genius but I always opposed the Iraqi war and predicted the civil war and the growth of Muslim fundamentalism. I also support the EU. Please don't confuse the two issues.

    Dear Jeremy,
    I am with you, whatever.
    Yours ever,

Often, people who talk of peace are seen as weak, not strong enough to make leaders. Let's remember this day as a lesson to the contrary.
I would rather be lead by a man who has the courage to search for peace than the ignorance to fight for their own blood-laden interests.
Never forget the hundreds of thousands that have and continue to die unnecessarily. Everyday fathers who kissed wives after a long days work, mothers and grandmothers who would share their recipes and cook evening family meals, and children who will never know what life has to offer.
This will all blow over in the next news cycle.
Hopefully we can take a humble minute and carry these lessons forward.

Do come back to Corbyn's Labour with his mass membershiop support and help him defeat not only the Tories and disastrous austerity but also the imperialist Blairite right wingers who ruined Labour, betrayed the working class and now want rid of Corbyn who is a rare man of integrity in parliament.

I was a teenager when we went to war, and I started out believing that
it was wrong to vote for any party, because the parlimentary system
seemed to have let us down so horrifically. Now I'm (just about) "grown up" I do vote, but I promised myself never to vote Labour.
But now Corbyn is leader, I have joined the Labour party -- I not only think of it as a different party, but almost the opposite: the best chance we have of justice over Iraq, and the best chance we have to get rid of a political class which thinks we're idots to be controlled by spin and advertising copy.

Millions of lives lost because of a lie. Brits should remember how they
felt when 7/7 happened in London, they were in fear... now imagine how
the Iraqis and Syrians are dealing with that much violence in their
country every single day. A thousand years later the people will call us
savages for killing that much innocent people there. Blair and Bush are
      war criminals.
