The Kakapo is the parrot version of the Dodo.
i think dodo in the first place is some version of pigeon p.s. closest relative nicobar pigeon edit: id appreciete if you follow with ' Oh Shit dot dot dot .....'
I think the dodo is the pigeon version of a kakapo
Yoooo
Why should parrot need a type of dodo
The only difference is the Kākāpō is still alive.
I think they should evolve big muscular arms for protection
great idea
Consider the following: Laser eyes.
Maybe a stronger chest bone too, to anchor the arms into place?
@@marcopohl4875 yes stronger arms and muscles back to flight
@@GreenPoint_one I wonder if any other birds have that kind of adaptation?
My favorite thing is that the name kakapo translates to "dookie/shit butt" in German and I LOVE it for that.
so it really is a kaka poo
The name also means night parrot (or, more literally, parrot night) in Te Reo Maori.
@@Sotanaht01Kaka and poo are the same name
@@UnkownWondersthat’s actually true in Māori I’m very sure
For those wondering, the other nocturnal parrot is the night parrot. They are endemic to Australia, where their natural habitat is the spinifex grass which still dominates much of the dry, dusty Australian interior. Because of their unique lifestyle, it is one of the most elusive and mysterious birds in the world, with no confirmed sightings of the bird between 1912 and 1979, leading to speculation that it was extinct. Sightings since 1979 have been extremely rare. It is one of only four ground-dwelling parrots in the whole world, the other three being the closely related Ground parrot (found in Australia), the somewhat closely related Antipodes parakeet (from NZ's Antipodes Islands), and of course the Kākāpō which is unrelated.
Also, that clip of Sirocco doing that is so iconic. The fact that other guy is just observing and letting it happen is pure gold. I have seen that hundreds of times and those hundreds of times it made me cry laughing. The commentary by Fry is just god tier; "you are being shagged by a rare parrot" it's just poetic and hilarious at the same time.
Australia. Why am I not surprised?
Thank you great MARSHAL for this information
Thank you to our supreme leader!
Nah bro imagine being a volunteer and your boss is like "Alright, it's your time in the ejaculation helmet"
i'd be so excited
Shit sounds like more of a punishment

It would be like: I shaw now condemned to use THE EJACULATION HELMET, THAT YOUR BODY BE COVERED IN KAKAPOO CUUM HAHAAHHAHA

In german, the word "kaka" translates to "poop" and "po" translates to "butt". This means, the bird is called "Poopybutt"...
Fun fact: scientists are already trying to ressurect the dodo. They actually have the DNA and all
I need a pet dodo, they need to bring them back
Same
God i hope they succeed. Fuck all the dumb DNA ethics
Whatever they "resurrect" will have a hard time as a functioning wild creature without parents to teach them "how to act"... see the kakapo that liked human heads in the video for an intelligent creature to not be raised by it's own kind. It's like, if some alien race found human DNA and created a human, without a mom or dad to teach it how to interact with the world, the "human" would fail at life without heavy intervention.
@@macc.1132the scientists know that. They will make fake dodo parents
so your telling me this bird is a walking boom box?
im gonna need 5 of them
That or a walking THX deep note.
The Kakapo can fly
If you yeet it hard enough
that ejaculation helmet was already invented to save a species of falcon and it worked
Damn ig kakapos are just hard to work with
Like Casual Geographic said: They come in different colors, and so do the falcons.
For the heaviest parrot species, ya boy has some stamina...
One must imagine kākāpō happy.
Slight correction: The bird you showed at the top left at 0:15 to represent the New Zealand parrots isn't actually a member of the New Zealand parrots or Strigopidae family. That is a baby Malherbe's parakeet (kākāriki karaka) and while they are from New Zealand, they're from the Psittaculidae family which are Old World parrots. That said, the reason the Strigopidae family in NZ are their own thing is they diverged from the other parrots around 82 million years ago when New Zealand broke off from Gondwana, while the ancestors of the genera Nestor and Strigops diverged from each other between 60 and 80 million years ago!
Out of the Strigopidae family, the kea are my favorites. They are found only on the South Island (though fossils show they were once found on the North Island too) and are one of, if not the only alpine parrot as they can be found breeding at heights of 1,600 meters (5,200 ft) above sea level and higher! For food, they go after beetle larvae, land snails, other birds, and even go after mammals like sheep and rabbits! Not only that but they are also exceptionally intelligent. Researchers set them a series of intelligence tests based around probabilities and social cues. They found that kea can perform better than monkeys, showing abilities only previously seen in great apes such as humans and chimpanzees!
Thank you for the correction
i aint reading allat
My absolute favourite birds. Incredible. It's a dream of mine to see one.
For some reason I read be one instead of see one and I was shocked for a second
@@creepywaffles4783 Well I like being human but that would probably be fun too.
@@trilobite3120I live in NZ and due to their critically endangered status, you'd be hard pressed to find one in zoos or whatnot. They only live on protected offshore islands and in a fenced in sanctuary at the mainland. Not even sure if you can see them in person
@@glowingmushroom4794 I was actually having an argument about this elsewhere in the comments of this video. Someone was saying that just by living in New Zealand and traveling fairly widely you could easily see one, which I'm pretty certain isn't true. Unless you volunteered for DOC or work as a veterinarian at the Auckland zoo the only way you could have seen them at any point in the recent past is when there were some chicks at willowbank for a brain surgery a couple years ago.
If I may suggest, I would love to see a video on the mako shark species, or even just a focus on one of them.
Sirocco needs to be put on a list yooooo.

Top 10 birds of all time
Person from New Zealand here! The reason we have so many flightless birds is because when New Zealand was separated from the rest of the world (Pangea stuff) we didn’t have any predators to the birds. So they didn’t adapt to having the ability to fly.
I probably got a few things wrong here, correct me if I have
It’s not that they didn’t evolve flying, they already could fly. It’s more that they lost the ability because they didn’t need to anymore! And they got bigger because of it making flying impossible.
Can't have shit in nz
we making out from natural selection with this one🗣️🗣️🔥🔥❗💯‼️
Now I want to make a game about a Kākāpō trying to survive.
And Stephen Fry is in the game (iykyk)
You think the Kakapo had a close brush with extinction? Look up the Chatham Island Black Robin. At their darkest hour there were only 5 individuals left, only one of whom (Old Blue) was a female. Today there's over 300 of them, and all are descended from Old Blue. Oddly enough, there's been no recorded problems with inbreeding despite the genetic bottleneck. It's one of the greatest conservation success stories in history.
Most Nz birds are still tickling the balls of extinction even the kakapo
@@NUTS-4-DAYZ 😂😂
5:17 Just imagine randomly walking in the forest and some bird starts swinging his ***** on your face
Thanks for doing a video on a NZ subject, they are actually really cool birds .im a amateur bone carver and I carved a small bone one few weeks ago
I have no idea what this video is but I've been waiting for it my entire life. UPLOAD MOREEE!!!
As you can tell, I absolutely fucking love Kakapo’s.
Can't help but agree.
Speaking of New Zealand I know it's an extinct animal but you should do a vid covering the Haast's Eagle,it was an actual NIGHTMARE
Watched a few of your vids and glad to see animal science communicated trough such a format, cracked up myself a few times, good job!

bro i love your videos your smartassery with knowledge is great hahah
Another banger educational vid. Consider posting clips from each video to shorts (and tiktok and insta) to get some more attention.
These videos are so fun to watch since its just a documentary but on crack
Douglas Adam's Last Chance to See is where I first learned about this bird. Glad the conservation efforts are giving results! 🎉
TierZoo put them and the kiwi in F tier for a reason
Tier lists are a really bad way to look at the natural world, simply because real life isn't a videogame.
He also placed ratite birds in F tier, which is an incredibly bad take. He also argued that "penguins would go extinct if they had to deal with a land predator", even though PENGUINS ALREADY DEAL WITH LAND PREDATORS, not all penguins are confined in Antarctica, and a lot of species have common encounters with predators such as foxes, cougars, jackals, jaguars, etc, and even the antartic ones have to deal with flying predators like petrels...
Also, Kiwis are incredibly hardy and adaptable birds, and they are already adapting to survive against the local invasive cats.
@@darkonyx6995dont care, its fun
@@darkonyx6995It's also kind of unfair to rank them based on the current ecosystem given they didn't develop for it. Before human arrival, Kākāpō were among the most populous large herbivores on New Zealand, so they were clearly doing something right. Apparently birds of prey and owls (their natural predators) don't have very good smell and so the Kākāpō's strategy of freezing and camouflaging worked pretty well since they didn't have to worry about being smelt out.
They are such silly cuties. Glad they're working on saving them
Dont stop making vids omg ur awesome
Bro don't ever stop😂😂😂, you funny af. Big Ups From South Africa
finally a new good channel. You go girl!

Actually one of my favorite parrots. I like only kea more
They should look into the hats they use for California Condor... sessions.
Could have saved problems. Well, maybe if they also included a Nintendo Switch for something to do as the events happen.
Maybe have a power adapter on hand...
Isn't there also a meat eating parrot in Kiwiland?
Kea
Omnivorous I believe but yes the Kea is at least partially carnivorous.
I think you show the appropriate amount of concern.
04:05 i can only imagine this fucking bird just casually making 808 kick sounds
Kakapo the real life version of a minecraft fox, no love without berries
They are adorable i love them
A treat every time.
I'll wait 🤣 love the sense of humor
In german the name translates directly into "poopy butt". So there is that.
Yeah, please wait a little longer.
They'll clone the Dodo soon enough maybe faster then I getting my pet Raptorchicken

I would die for this bird. They’re so cute it’s painful
Look up Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams. Many lovely details about these birds, like automatic incubators they build, which tend to work about as well as human made automation: creates even more work, although of different, more tedious kind.

Oh my gosh that's one of my dreams. How did you manage that?

@@NUTS-4-DAYZ They are only found on a few sanctuaries and their population is only around 250. They don't just show up in your backyard or your local park. You have to actively make an attempt to see them.
@@trilobite3120 i mean sure but if you go on holidays around NZ then its easy
@@NUTS-4-DAYZ Are you confusing them with kea?
Are you aware that they have only very recently been introduced to the mainland, and only in a single sanctuary. To see them you'd either have to have seen them in willowbank a few years ago or have volunteered in one of the sanctuaries.
Edit: many are treated in the Auckland zoo so if you work there you might see them. They're not visible to the public as far as I'm aware though.
