So much needed! I really liked the fact that you talked about how there is hate train always going on in survival shows. I remember cai bing, she was talented but she was evil edited as well by mnet. Mnet is a big snake who tries to do everything possible as to make the show interesting. That's why they have members from disbanded groups (or near disbandment), also they are xenophobic. That's why kpop Stans should first think and then take their decision towards some people :)

two things to clarify so kpop stans don’t kill me:
    1. this is not a hate vid, i love all the idols and trainees featured in this vid!! i would be disappointed to see hate comments towards any trainee :(
    2. this is NOT a new take, but with boys planet 999 airing, i wanted to bring this up again bc survival show season gets real heated 🥲
survival shows are my guilty pleasure, but the drama can be overwhelming. here are some of my tips for escaping the toxicity:
✨find the positive in every trainee
    - even if not all of my faves made it, i know what charms every trainee has and how it’ll help them shine in the final lineup
✨ watch full stages, not the edited clips
    - mnet really likes to exaggerate small mistakes and make them seem huge. full stages, without the fast cuts and editing, will show you the reality.
✨ learn what dirty tricks mnet likes to use
    - remember that the reality is usually much less exciting - rarely is a trainee truly THAT mean.
a trainee may not be your fave, but there is a way to be respectful about it. be kind to one another 🫡

Feel like the trainees need to be smart and act fast to create a certain story or image for the cameras and capturing the audience’s attention. Ofc when I say image, I don’t mean that the trainees should be literally acting for the cameras to seem perfect. I’ve realised that with the way u create a story and image of urself in these survival shows, they tend to rank pretty well. Friendships or stories of improvement or the “this is my last chance” trope being the most popular in these survival shows. If it works the first time at the beginning of the show, then it’d be great to maintain it throughout, if it doesn’t work then well tough luck, they’ll just have to try improving stage presence instead for those live performances they do in front of audience to gain on site live audience votes, gain benefits and survive

In second round she just taking any part without arguments (assuming she have quite low confidence than other trainees) then she got scolded by her coach cause shes not doing justice for her part means she could do better if she got good part like 1 or 2 and as results her gp didn't win but shes got good amount screentime in the ep and story of her own and fans keep noticing her after that.

Survival also need skills, which is a talent in this case, cause they are going to be debut as a group not just a big brother show... so I wish talented ones are the winner but yeah... Popularity win sometimes. I won't hating on the one that can make it to the debut line with less talent skills than other contestants but it is a shame that visuals more important to some people (like the talented trainees they are bashed by netizens because of their look that is so saaaad, the should've win if it's not because of the k beauty standarts). Jeon Soyeon, Takeuchi Miyu, Bora, Jay and Keita for example. They are good looking but got less vote cause ppl saying their visual is not good enough (BUT THEY ARE LOOKING REALLY REALLY FINE BRUH)

i have not ever fully kept up with a survival show (watching) or participated in voting while it is ongoing. for instance, currently i have only seen clips of RU NEXT and A2K (although a2k isnt rly a fan-voted or fan participating show). skill is 100% the most important factor when it comes to survival shows. which makes it so unfortunate that no matter how talented a person is, if theyre not as conventionally attractive as another participant who (for example,) has 50% of their skill, a lot of people (most likely the majority) will still vote for the "better looking" one. this is even more prevalent because these shows are based in south korea where as you all know, appearance is very important even to get a basic office job.
and although you can argue that there is "potential" in a person who doesnt have good skills, why not debut the other participant(s) who do have the sufficient requirements? like, just because they have a pretty face and "potential", its better to just allow that person to train more until their skills are up to par rather than debut them right away (which also takes it away from someone who IS ready to debut).
ANYWAYS idk ive just been thinking abt survival shows a lot (ive seen way too many clips of a2k and ru next and it kinda frustrates me how survival shows and maybe kpop in general is becoming less and less about talent and skills).

I will forever put skill before popularity, because saying talent is somewhat subjective. Anyone can be talented but having skill is what sets you apart. Popularity is a major role, but popularity isn’t in your control, so all the contestants can do is do their best, and the edit lets them shine. But at the end of the day, morally the best should advance, but sadly that is not the case all the time

The fact that majority of the decisions comes from the public thru votes is already unfair due to unequal screen time. And for you to get votes from them, you have to fit the beauty standards and must have connections from the outside. The more popular you are, the better. I was really surprised at first when i found out that some idols got the 1st spot in a survival show even tho they're not the best like wonyoung and nayeon.
That's why I'm not that surprised when idols debuted thru survival shows aren't that talented. Visuals over talent 🥴

  • @chimchimbiasedwreckedbyjin4056

I feel it should be a combination of both because you can be super talented but just not have that star power or it factor we have all seen celebrities or influencers or regular people who are talented but don’t get as much attention or popularity because they are a little bland and on the other side we see people who are massively popular but lack any talent. I feel they shouldn’t have to be like amazing of the bat but have great potential and go to show improvement and have some of that intrigue the best example for me is jake from enhypen he wasn’t the greatest and wasnt in my top picks for debut but he kept improving and his personality started shining. So to me that’s the ideal.

  • @choumoong
    @choumoong 6 місяців тому

You definitely need both but your talent is literally under looked if you're not getting enough screen time or popularity, unless someone points it out globally they'll never have a chance to debut without people voting for them. If you're extremely popular with a good rep and have decent skills that aren't that bad, you'll have a 70-30% chance to debut. If you're not that popular and have insanely good skills and people don't know about you, it's hard to get them to notice you unless you put on a performance that's insanely angelic or powerful on stage. Only then they'll be like " Who is this person?" they'll mostly cling onto the people they have information on. Honestly if even a bad skilled trainee that gets popularized to get decent and improve gets to debut *not hating but people seem to like that thrill of someone improving even though there's other trainees who have had those skills from the start doubled or tripled*

That's why viewers vote is unnecessary imo. They just vote for the unskilled trainees just because they're "interesting" or "pretty". They vote for fun and not thinking about the long-term results. Ended up the skilled one fading and even lost their opportunity. It's waay better if the viewer has a chance to only save one or two participants, and let the rest be selected by the mentors/judges, the professional one!
