I am enjoying your two weeks off work :) That Helix looks fantastic and great idea on the branch line mod. I have to agree with you, and others, on the Hornby points. I have to replace the single Hornby curved point on mine as although fine to begin with nothing passes over it any more without derailing. I almost when green with envy watching your 60 back those wagons into the yard. I have not been able to do that for about a year. Looking forward to the next instalment. Best regards Steve
Looking really good mate. I really enjoy all your videos and took your advice on making bushes by rolling lichen in glue and then in flock etc which has made a big difference to my layout. Only trouble is I'm going to have to redo all my old bushes now!
the fiddle yard and helix is coming along nicely mate.having a fiddle yard now will make it so much easier to run your trains in the future.and it was also a good idea to split your branchline early and have done a good job of on the helix. and just wanted to say i dont think your video uploaded properly either mate.other than that its an ace job you have done,once again.
You've done a great job so far on your track laying the helix's look superb.Your wright about peco track I've used it through out my layout its the best about on the market next one up is hand made track not got the patients for that thou.Look forward to your next video all the best Kev.
@JPMiller14 Due to space constraints I couldn't use the streamline pints and had to opt for the set track type. These are only available in the insulfrog variety.
i agree peco tends to last alot longer than hornby price wise in australia (where i am) peco track is alot cheaper than hornby.. odd isnt it? enjoyed the update and your fiddle yard is coming well it goes to show a little calculation and patience makes all the difference :D also after you put the piece above the fiddle yard on its going to be a bit difficult to see down there, maybe install a bit of lighting or something before the top board goes on? just a suggestion :D looking forward to p2
Looks interesting are you going to use Clay tunnel portals or the ones you used before because if you used the clay tunnel portals it would make your tunnels on your layout look better
you are getting the job done very quickly tho i must say. ive just taken up half the station area to extend the platforms.and to change the trackplan slightly.
Just be glad you don't have to weather all those sidings. As for the branchline and main line connecting are you going to just put a single pair of points again or are you going to try and connect all the lines though points like many of the mainlines?
Fantastic Layout i cant wait to see the finished product :), can i ask how you cut the Flexi track to size or do you just leavit as its normal length ??
Hi, thouroughly enjoyed the last two videos. Can I ask about the fiddle yard - it seems all of what you've shown so far has involved the Peco electrofrog points, but what it looks like from the clip here is a curved point with a plastic frog like Hornby? I'm just wondering about why these type are going to be included in your layout, or is purely for trying to simplify the yard where all wheel pick up Bo-Bo or Co-Co locos will pass here so the chance of a stall on these points is almost zero?
@EverardJunction right i see so would would steam locos go round the streamlined points? As thats the only problem with my old layout 'Fennerfield' locos like tornado will not go into run arounds or sidings because of the points. This is the reason for building a new layout purely for DCC working and these points may fit the bill for the job. Thanks for your help mate! Much appreciated Rob
@DELTICclass55 I have laid all the flexi track allready and don't have any spare I'm afraid. To keep it straight I keep a ruler butted up to the edge of the sleepers, this forces the track to be straight. For corners I mark out where the corner will go with a pencil line, then follow the line with the track.
@tich4472 normal points are very tight and don't look very realistic. Streamline points are much smoother and send the train round a much more gentle curve. Normal points are very useful for a tight space, but not much more than that.
great job mate! i am also going to use peco track for my new layout you have persuaded me! one question whats the different between streemline points and normal points? Rob
@EverardJunction Ah right yes, there is a curved electrofrog one isn't there, but the outer radius on it is so slight that it hardly changes direction. looking at it fro a distance it appears almost straight. Wonder why they made it like this.
Hi there, great videos by the way. I wondered if you could tell me (or better still, do a 'how to' video on it) how you set up the wiring for the point motors in the fiddle yard. I am building a layout with a similar set up to you and I am doing my head in trying to think of how to wire up all the motors in the most efficient way!!
+Andy Brierley The points in my fiddle yard are not motorised. Mostly because of cost and lack of room for wiring. I operate the points manually and get on fine. Best thing to do would be to wire the points in pairs and perhaps use leds to show their position. It's not something I'm planning on doing at present.
@TrainMadJames Yes - Peco track is exactly the same in terms of dimensions. It is just made much better. However make sure you buy Code 100 peco track.
Hello - I have just come across these video, one question " What is the theory of using a helix I can appreciate your taken the loco to a different level to the fiddle yard , but how do you get back to the station level
These videos are awesome, very inspiring and very professional, keep up the great work. I notice you use Peco code 100 track. As someone considering to pluck the courage to start an adventure in model railways would you recommend sticking to code 100 or to try finescale code 75 track, it seems PECO do an extensive range of points in finescale code 75?
+William Conway Thanks for the reply William. Just a final question, are there any problems with using Ready to Run rolling stock and the type of wheels that manufacturers such as Bachmann and Hornby provide?
@EverardJunction cheers Its just that i may get some when i start to build my layout as it looks alot better made and i trust that stuff will last long if they are made in england like Dinky Toys.
Hey mate how big is your lay out?.... Im building a replica of my home town railway in Mackay Australia, Just interested as to how much space I would roughly need.
Hey everard, ur 60 n shell cars are "DA BOMB" as we say in brooklyn, i wanna kindly ax u 4 engine n cars info, so i can get 1 aswell, along with ur dealer info, incase i cant get one here..thx..ralphy
Hey Everard! (because i don't know ur name..he he) my favrit train on ur layout the class 61 with shell tankers, really is a bad "mamma jamma", If possibl, id like to get one, cud u giv me engine n cars info. And jus if i cant find it here, can u give me ur dealers info to communicate...thx, Ralphy
marian Melinte I made an exception there because I needed a tight curved point to maximise storage space. Peco don't make an electrofrog version of that point so I had to use insulfrog..
Hey Everard, ur class 60 n shell tankers is "DA BOMB", My favrite frum ur layout, was hopin u wud share engine ncars info with me so i can hav 1 lik urs, n jus in case i cant find here, wud it b ok 2 hav ur dealer info as well..thx..ralphy
Nice Layout! But you have no noise reduction. Is this loud? I have cork under the track. My railway: www.knop.cc/Homepage/Modellbahn.html Kind regards from Vienna
Just starting a model railway. These videos are invaluable and will help me along the way. Thank you for putting them on and keep it coming. 👍🚝

So jealous! It looks awesome. I can't wait until I get the money to really start my layout.

It's freelance, but i'm trying to make it as realistic as I can.
@JPMiller14 Due to space constraints I couldn't use the streamline pints and had to opt for the set track type. These are only available in the insulfrog variety.

@networkjack3099 There was a clip at the end that I forgot to delete, have got rid of it now.

@bloodmarine77 Thanks mate, I edited the vid very quickly in sony vegas and forgot to trim the end bit. I now sorted it in the youtube editor.
Everything is coming along nicely good job mate

The more you make the better it look's !!
About Peco I agree that's why I only have that :D
Good job !!

Rob
@howarth004 I have noticed that, but have not used those motors. The seep motors cope very well.
Omg that branch line doesn't look like it's held up very well .hahaha lol
nice cant wait to see your layout finished
coming along very well and looking great as ever. out of interest how muxh was that pack of flexi track ??
@firefuryTV As far as I am aware peco make basicly the same sizes as hornby and offer a lot more specialist pieces and sizes.
@MrBhrider I have a helix at both ends to allow trains to go between both levels.
hi just to ask are all you trains chipped and are they powered by the track
5****s looking good better than mine i wish i had more room
@DELTICclass55 I have laid all the flexi track allready and don't have any spare I'm afraid. @hornbyhobby I got mine from hattons, the box of it was about £60, or you can by individual lengths at about £2.80 each.
@maxilfli1 I used set track, it's 2nd, 3rd and 4th radius
great job mate! i am also going to use peco track for my new layout you have persuaded me! one question whats the different between streemline points and normal points?
Rob
Peco are by far the kings of model railway track
English = Excellent
Chinese = Crap...
lovely jubbly!

@Whizzer1 Not sure yet, I will either make my own or use a kit.
@bloodmarine77 Nice, I look forward to see it
@TrainMadJames Yes - Peco track is exactly the same in terms of dimensions. It is just made much better. However make sure you buy Code 100 peco track.
Hello - I have just come across these video, one question " What is the theory of using a helix I can appreciate your taken the loco to a different level to the fiddle yard , but how do you get back to the station level
on the helix what rad curves have you used, whats the diamater, and what is the hight differential between upper an lower boards.
@percomotion Thanks mate, I once watched a vid of a guy making his own N gauge point. It took about a week!
@OOTrainsandModels Nice thought, i am looking into using some sort of gradient.
These videos are awesome, very inspiring and very professional, keep up the great work. I notice you use Peco code 100 track. @XKSteve Thanks, I must admit it gave me a bit of a shock that it just backed in first time.
@80rvp Thanks mate, I have thought of that. A light will be added later.
@EverardJunction cheers Its just that i may get some when i start to build my layout as it looks alot better made and i trust that stuff will last long if they are made in england like Dinky Toys.
My layout is quite large. The left side is about 10 feet, right side about 17 feet and the top is about 15 feet I think.
@AshHill07 I'm going to use a lot of points and try to connect it all up.
sorry also do you use set track or flexi track for the Helix if set track what do you use
@sperojunction I have read quite a few threads on forums about the poor qualitly of some hornby points. I'll take a look at some of your vids.
Looking good, What is the code of the settrack curved points ?
@RGTNEREU Thanks mate, peco is good stuff,
@Yorkiepudd1966 Thanks for the suggestion mate.
@REGWARNE12 Yep, great reason to buy it.
Hey mate how big is your lay out?.... Im building a replica of my home town railway in Mackay Australia, Just interested as to how much space I would roughly need.
@maxilfli1 I think the track was about £55
how much did all the track cost ?
@poisonarrowfrog100 Thanks
Hey everard, ur 60 n shell cars are "DA BOMB" as we say in brooklyn, i wanna kindly ax u 4 engine n cars info, so i can get 1 aswell, along with ur dealer info, incase i cant get one here..thx..ralphy
@Willowfs4472 Thanks
@ColasRail47739 The points are ST-244
@MrJezza31 I can't wait to joint the track back together, let alone finish it.
How much (on average) dose the 25m box of flex track cost? (from peco)
Hey ur 60 n shells is my favrit, wud u share engin n cars info so i can hav 1 2,along with dealer info incas i cant find here..thx ralphy.
Dou you use point motors for insulfrog points?If your answer is yes.How do you install point motors for insulfrog points?
marian Melinte Same as electrofrog points, but you can ignore the 3 wires that power the polarity switch and frog.
Can Peco Track fit in Hornby Track Plates????
how high are your fiddle level and scenic levels above floor level roughly
@firefuryTV I know, has now been edited.
What do u use to cut your track
Yes
The look the same as long as the peco is code 100
I paid about £60 for a box
Yes its fine as long as the peco track is code 100
Why did you use a curved insulfrog setrack point in the fiddle yard?You sad that you use only electrofrog points.
marian Melinte I made an exception there because I needed a tight curved point to maximise storage space. Peco don't make an electrofrog version of that point so I had to use insulfrog..
I use a dremel with a cutting disk
no rail bed?
Hey Everard, ur class 60 n shell tankers is "DA BOMB", My favrite frum ur layout, was hopin u wud share engine ncars info with me so i can hav 1 lik urs, n jus in case i cant find here, wud it b ok 2 hav ur dealer info as well..thx..ralphy
@BristolSpotterHD Spot on
@zilte2 I used to have the same problem
Another gem on the way
Yes they are
@jackabeejackson Ha ha, it can a very boring job
I get my track online from hattons.
Nice Layout! But you have no noise reduction. Is this loud? I have cork under the track. My railway: www.knop.cc/Homepage/Modellbahn.html
Kind regards from Vienna
Chris K I have cork on scenic sections of the layout. The trains are not very loud. I rather enjoy the sound they make. Thanks
DAD
lol Chinese track
