Training advice

A little information for everyone, as i get asked a lot.
I bought Jessie from a pet store when she was 6 weeks old. She wasnt hand-fed/Hand-rasied.
My technique for training her was mainly spending 80-90% of my time with her, she is a single budgie without a friend, she needs to spend the majority of her time with someone as budgies get lonely easily. She has free flight which means she is out of her cage most of the day aslongs as someone is home, her cage door is left open and she comes and goes as she pleases. If no one is home her cage is kept closed just for her safety. I leave windows and doors shut when she is out of her cage or when her cage door is open and i make sure there are no hazzards which can harm her, such as housplants which are toxic, candles, air fresheners, fans, and heaters. She has plenty of toys in her cage and around the room. She has a bigger cage designed for parrots as i believe it is important to have plenty of space for them. If you are not able to do all of this stuff i would sugest getting your budgie a partner, i realise not everyone is in a position where they can spend this much time with their bird, its only possible for me as there is always someone here the vast majority of the time.
As for training. I used a dog clicker and her favorite treat. I started with the 'step up'' command. I put my finger to her and said in a calm but firm voice ''up'' and everytime she stepped on my finger or even walked towards my finger, i would instantly click my clicker and give her a nibble of some millet and say ''good bird'' in a loving voice. I used this technique to train her to do lots of different things, and if you are persistent enough it will work but you also need to show them enough love and time and give them plenty of toys. You can tell when a budgie is happy as they are always hyper or alart and playfull all the time. If your budgie is ever just siting around quietly looking unhappy it usually means they are either sick or they are bored and/or lonely.
Also another thing jessie likes is music and being spoken to, So try this with your birds too.

This is exactly what my 10 week old budgie looked like. So little and cute... so precious. He used to arch his neck when I rubbed his head too, makes me miss him so much. Sadly, he died at only 4 months old, this reminds me of him so much, it made me smile, but also very sad. I miss him. Good luck to you!!

Yes totaly agree with You ,I don't undestand this.I have now a Very Young Couple they want to be and stay together when I got them ( not then but they wanna stay together and also with me.They choose eachather and also me at that time) How Loveley to Watch Your Own Cute's and Incredible in Love with Eacather (Realy Love is in the air) and then people think ooh it's not Cute or Loveley.Hello afcourse it is ,very Nice and Loveley to Watch Everytime ,got Pctures of this and they think oh ooh yes where now on camera and looking is there anything ? I've only had my budgie Pistachio for 3 days I got him alone because I want him to bond with me instead of another budgie I do feel he gets lonely sometimes though, so I show him this video and he chirps away! Happy as ever!
haha. good decision you made. you should get few toys so he doesnt feel lonely though. and talk to him a lot
if he seems lonely then that means that he isnt getting enough time, you need to spend 80 to 90 percent of your time with him. please consider getting another budgie, budgies get depressed if they are alone. the fact that you say he seems lonely at times means that he isnt getting enough of what he requires.

Oh yeah, little girl for sure! You can tell by the personality, her way of moving, and her vocalizations. Also, I have very rarely seen a male allowed you to rub his head like that. Females are so sweet!

Yes!! Finally a bird for me to settle onto I really wanted a cockatiel but they are way too expensive. This one is cheap and fun to handle and a silly bird I know not all birds can act the same but u can tame these and it's great!!!! ❤❤

try watching videos where they teach you how to tame your budgie and then try it with the pet? maybe it helps!

maybe it's not a match? i remember seeing a video where the owner said that it took a new owner for the parrot to calm down. i'm not saying give it away but maybe your parrot's calmer around other people?

basically the main two things you need to do is spend AS MUCH time as possible with your budgie, the more the better, and training with plenty of time out of the cage with toys....if you are away for long periods every day id suggest to get two so that they don't get lonely, its not fair to leave them by themselves for too long. although it will be easier bonding with one budgie then it would be with two

+iiScarFace just stick your hand near him for 10 mins, 3 times a day and eventually they will get used to your hand then you should be able to go near him
I started doing this a while ago. he will jump on my arm but only for a few seconds then jump back off.. he will only get on my right arm too for some reason.. my left is like.. he doesnt want anything to do with it
iiScarFace he might be used to your right arm and not your left so do the same with your left also let him be in a busy part of the house so that hes used to everyone or you, some times even give him treats with your hand and he might start to like you more and do this every now and then.
He is in a very busy part c: He's in our over-sized dining room which is almost open plan with our living room so the tv is always on, music is always playing, people are always in and out... but at the moment he's making this really strange sound which i THINK may be him needing a mate, if you catch my drift
iiScarFace maybe he does need one who knows but that would be expensive :/ as parrots are not a cheap bird like budgies... By the way, are you a starter? cause if so then its best to start with a small bird such as a budgie

Budgies are just amazing little creatures! They DO NOT get the recognition they deserve! They are beautiful..socialable..tamed/treated correctly,they LOVE to spend their time with their person..they are very intelligent..some are extremely talented talkers and can be taught many tricks. Just be cause they are "cheap" you can get a baby budgie for $20..must people think of them as 'throw away' pets..He/She died?? oh well it was only 20 bucks..and they don't even get the chance to be treated respectfully..And budgies can live 15 years or more if properly cared for! Just look at Jessie in this video..she is adorable and obviously her person treats her well!

Samantha Zammit You must have it from a small age,and not stopping have your hand close to it in order to get use to you.About the toys the same principal needed,attach something from its cage seeling,or a toy in general.
